  Again, you have to realize the 'reality vrs what we say' aspect of JW-hood. Of course Mr "We're so squeaky clean you can eat off of us" JR Brown, Press Officer extraordinaire can trot out lot's of WT and other articles that seem to prove that JWs don't 'encourage' physical punishment. Of course, and JT puts it "Which way is the SOCIETY leaning?" All good JWs can read between the lines, not too mention the good old environment issue, as many JW children are the product of several generations of JW and the parents were raised by the belt, so too the new generation will be raised by the belt.

  Not too mention all the 'well meaning' sisters that preassure new parents into 'punishing' children for being children and doing things like playing at the meeting (o horrors of horrors, how dare they do THAT!). Or better yet the 'ones taking the lead' - read elders - telling the parents to get their kids under control and stop being a 'distraction'.

  The funny thing is that it's only a distraction since the freaking meeting is so damn boring that people would rather do ANYTHING than listen to the talk ...

  Should People Be Disfellowshipped?

  a reply i made on another thread prompted me to post this.

  i was going to do so on the other thread but that was really not the topic and i didn't want to corrupt it by flying off on another tangent.. i have no problems with disfellowshipping from an organization such as jehovah's witnesses.

  i don't think a person should be allowed to remain within an organization while practicing things that are condemned by that org., things which they, themselves profess not to believe in.. my objection is to the shunning.

  What are the odds? Whose taking the bets? Can I contact some one in Vegas?

  Can't see exactly how the fight shakes down ... after all Allah tag teams with the Taliban and others, but Jehovah's helpers refuse to get in the ring, just chanting "Wait on Jehovah" and "You just wait till Jehovah gets thru with you - the birds 'll peck out your eyeballs". It might be a close one ...

  i read not long ago that the wts rakes in some big bucks every year from sales of printed materials.

  can someone please help me understand who pays for their materials.

  in the country where i live, it seems they distribute their literature free of charge.

  Actually, in the US, the 'box' is normally located, you guessed it, right at or on the counter where you pick up your books/mags. So as for you to not miss an opportunity to 'donate' for those books/mags you just got. Also the 'brother' handing out the books/mags sees who dontates and who doesn't and don't think that info is not duely noted.

  Nothing is ever 'free'. Someone pays for it.

  Is the total number of hours preached going down? Where was that web site that listed the previous few years of JW stats?

  I find it funny that the # of pioneers is dropping so fast, yet they have dropped the hour requirements. I guess not too many are 'developing the pioneer spirit'

  JW's and Chronic Fatigue Syndrone!

  i dont know if anyone else has noticed the alarming number of jws who claim to suffer from chronic fatigue syndrone,i mean hear in cornwall there tend to be several sufferers in every congregation,outside the jws out of the many people i know i dont know anyone,although there are obviosly many outside the jws who suffer this illness,percentage wise it seems that jws have a much,much larger occorance of the illness.. for example my brother in law has not worked and been living on invalidity benefits for more than 10 years since his mid twenties,his brother is also in the same boat, an m.e sufferer.. i wonder if anyone has looked into this a bit more?

  And as a 'by the way', she works harder now at her secular job, plays harder in physical things (sports), then she ever did as a JW, yet strangely the problems are almost gone. Hmmmmmm.

  Another ditto, I knew SO many (mostly sisters) who suffered from CFS, fybromyalgia, etc. In fact, my wife was one of them. I do not think that in many cases these conditions 'are all in the head' as many do beleive. I think there is something behind it all. However, that said I truely think it's mostly stress-caused. As far as doctors can tell it's caused or contributed towards by chemical imbalances in the brain. Which are caused or contributed towards by lack of stage 4 sleep (among other things). Hence why many of CFS sufferes are on some type of sleep aid (normally an anti-depressant).

  All that said, guess when her symptoms started? At 17, when she started reg pioneering. Guess when she got better? Soon after we quit bying the JW BS. Things that make you go "hmmmmmm"

  That's why I think it's stress related. She lived life from one guilty moment to the next(i.e. "Oh no we missed a meeting", "We really SHOULD go in FS today"), and from one 'crisis' of offending some poor JW to the next("Wah, you hurt my feelings", "Your skirt was too short"). Once the abnormal 'friendships' were left behind, and the guilt was overcome, the stress they caused disappeard. And the CFS sysmptoms went away with it.

  The JW religion or the person, whose fault is it?

  i just read the tragic story of the man in chicago who beat his daughter to death.

  i have read stories here and on silentlambs about sexual abuse.. my question is: how much fault can be placed on the religion and how much on the perversions of a particular individual?

  i frankly don't know the answer to this question.

  Ditto, I think that the JW religion (and many others) are 'enablers' for this type of madness. It provides an environment that encourages and hides monsters of these types. To have the weekly brainwashing sessions telling you not to 'spare the rod', etc. Justifies the beatings that were obviously a normal part of these children's life. In fact I can imagine that this 'brother' was 'looked up to' as an example of someone who had such well behaved children. Although we all know that the children are probably severaly mentally handicapped by their experiance now, and will suffer for years from their parents abuse.
