The Tower of Babel - Languages: Isn't this story unhinged?
by james_woods inbesides the obvious fact that it is historically ridiculous - can anybody make any sense out of this story?.
god was somehow afraid that man was developing too much technology?
just because they were building a tower?.

And I thought all along that God created humans with free will....
Please offer a scriptural reference for "God created human's with free will". Thank you!
I only say that it is natural because I engage my power of observation. You don't?

By settling and building their city to make a great name for themselves (THERE in the valley) they were actually holding themselves back from progress. If the whole world becomes held back, which is likely and natural if the majority stalls, then the WAY to God's will on Earth accomplished will not be found. If the way is not found truth remains hidden. If truth remains hidden everlasting life will not be accomplished.
Please try to remember the Bible is about spiritual things. If you don't want to consider the spiritual meaning of scripture, leave it alone.

What exactly is a relasionship with God?
by tootired2care ingrowing up and jw and being around them all my life i constantly heard the expression "a relasionship with god".
this always confused me, because how do you have a relasionship with someone that doesn't talk back to you after praying?
this was always rationalized as god talks back to you when you read the bible.

but what is god doing about any of it? Nothing. At least we try.
Still thinking, I think you personally have the same amount of proof for yourself that the god you have sought is not real that you have that he has done nothing to fix anything. So what you say makes you sound like a bully.

"...baptizing them in the name of the Father and of Watchtower Society and of the holy spirit "
by irondork inif baptism is really a symbol of one's dedication to god, as the wts agrees it is, then why would someone who was baptized years earlier need to be re-baptized after studying with jehovah's witnesses?
in discussing the two questions asked of baptismal candidates, the watchtower, april 1, 2006, page 22 par 4 says:.
therefore, those who qualify for baptism have usually studied the bible for months or even a year or two, so that their decision is neither hasty nor ill-informed.

Irondork it is an excellent question.
They will answer that the first baptism wasn't according to accurate knowledge.
Then the person should answer that with "then I should wait to get baptized until I have accurate knowledge". Which is a real GOOD thing to do!

I agree OldGenerationDude with this;
The story of the Tower of Babel is written in the format of a humorous anecdote.
It came after knowledge of a global flood. So the building may have been planned to reach higher than the flood plane. And that is funny. How many people might fit on the top of that? And who?

I always wondered how something someone does NOT do can be called a "custom" as the JWs understand Hebrews 10:25 to mean " not forsaking the gathering of ourselves together, as some have the custom...."
What I think it means is to some of the people gathering it had become a custom or habit to gather so their gathering became powerless to be encouraging to the others present. They were not gathering for love but they were gathering together because they believed they were being told to gather and it became their habit.

To be living in a world where communication is difficult is to be seeking to understand one another better. To understand one another is a worthy pursuit. On the other hand to be unable to communicate well can work well for squelching the plans of the few to enslave the rest of humankind.

Jehovah's Witnesses teach that anyone who has died before Jesus died will not be going to heaven.
