Motives for starting the lie of Watchtower Authority.
by marriedtoajw ini have yet to come across anyones opinions, jw or not, of the personal motives of the leaders of the org.
to perpetuate what i guess we all would call the lie of the watchtoer authority.
in my opinion, i think that russell was an athiest out to show how easy it is to decieve people using the bible.

I have yet to come across anyones opinions, jw or not, of the personal motives of the leaders of the Org. to perpetuate what I guess we all would call the lie of the Watchtoer Authority. In my opinion, I think that Russell was an athiest out to show how easy it is to decieve people using the Bible. Through his personal interpretations and charisma, he knew he had a talent of convincing people. He made it his mission to overturn Christianity doctrine by doctrine all the way up until his death. I believe that Rutherford was an opportunist who positioned himself to cash in on what Russell built. After them, they are all victims of victims. Just my opinion but I was just curious what your thoughts are on the motives of the original leaders Russell and Rutherford.

What would you do???
by marriedtoajw inmy jw mother in law is in town this week.
my jw wife and i went to my cousins new years party last night and came home after 2am while my inlaw watched the kids.
today she gets into a discussion with my wife that i overheard telling her we shouldn't have gotten home so late cuz she assumed her and my wife would go to the meeting today.

You've all made great points. My wife is very intimidated by her mother. Her dad, in my opinion, is a really giving person but weak and so mom gets what she wants. She's use to it. She portrays herself as a giving person but I've seen the fangs from time to time. I do notice a change in her dad, he seems to be developing fangs. MIL is a true believer in the Authority of the Org. and feels it's her calling to get everyone in. I am preventing her from fullfilling her fantacy. I believe my wants has a need to get the approval of her mother in all things and is trying to pacify her as best she can, while attending meetings from time to time while at the same time trying to keep peace with me. She is in a tough spot but so am I.

Mrsjones, normally this how I would handle it. The thing is, she is always doing stuff like this knowing how I feel. It's as if she is daring me to say something. I've spoken to my wife on other occasions about things like this but it does no good. I believe my in law is baiting me so that she could witness to me in front of the kids. I truely don't know how long I can continue biting my lip.

My JW mother in law is in town this week. My JW wife and I went to my cousins New Years party last night and came home after 2am while my inlaw watched the kids. Today she gets into a discussion with my wife that I overheard telling her we shouldn't have gotten home so late cuz she assumed her and my wife would go to the meeting today. The wife woke up late mother in law made a stink of it. So she ended up going to the afternoon meeting but kidnapped my 6 year old daughter and took her while I was in the back yard.. I'm very upset but keeping my kool... How upset would you be if your in law knew how you felt but did this anyway. My other boys 14 and 10 did not go. My daughter loves grandma but I can't stand the religion. Inside I'm pissed, very pissed. How pissed would you be?

The Control is simply amazing
by outsmartthesystem inat the kind advice of so many of you (and hassan) on this board....i ceased attempting to discuss doctrine/failures with my wife many months ago.
but unfortunately that does not prevent her from grilling me from time to time.
during one of our infamous "discussions" she said she was going to "investigate" this supposed "proof" that is out there regarding 587bc.

What would be the best way to explain the 607 and 586/587 BC discrepency to my JW wife. Who is willing to see the evidence. I have Gentile Times Reconsidered but it is a very tough read. Are there any other ways to discuss this and break it down to something easier to understand?

Theocratic warfare
by marriedtoajw inwhat is theocratic warfare exactly as it is taught by the watchtower?
are all jw's instructed to apply it?
how is it applied and to what degree and in what circumstances?

I believe that my wife and her family are using Theocratic Warfare stragegies in trying to indoctrinate my kids behind my back. Do any of you think it would be helpful to call them on it or at least question her about what Theocratic Warfare is?
