I kind of liked the muffin eggs and roast beef. At Stanley Theater they'd fire up the soft serve ice cream maker too.

striking similarities to the pharisees?
by chuckyy inis it just me or do jw elders seem to parallel the pharisses of christs day?
certainly, the excessive laws (written and oral), are a heavy burden for all jws, impossible to keep, leading to feelings of guilt.
the elders enforce these laws , and, just like the pharisees of christs day, render these laws as having greater importance than mercy/love.

No Chuckyy you arent being harsh, pharisee's is a good comparision to to many but not all JW Elders. Thing is elders treat fellow elders worse sometimes epsecially if they dont like each other. There isnt real christlike love in the congregation... its all for show.

Saying no when 2 elders approached me 9 yrs ago and asked: "are you involved in anything that could disqualify you from serving as an elder in the congregation?"

How much influence did the internet have on you leaving the organization?
by The wanderer inuntitled document <!-- .style1 {font-family: verdana} .style2 {font-family: verdana; font-style: italic; } --> discoveries about the organization on the internet admittedly, had it not been for the internet, and all of the dis-.
coveries that were found on it; i would still be one of jehovah's .
witnesses.

I haven't officially left yet but mentally I may as well be. It was actually television in the form of that Dataline NBC special on JW pedophiles that really made me question the org, however the internet has and continues to keep me resolved that it isnt the truth and I have no need to feel quilty about how I feel. The internet was a wealth of information that has answered a lot of questions. I really respect those who left in the 80's and early 90's... without the info on the internet.

As an american I dont feel safe going to anywhere in the middle east period. Which is unfortunate because I would love to see the pyramids, tuts tomb, the weeping (wailing) wall, etc.

Service talk on changes at Bethel, layoffs, spirit of urgency
by truthseeker inlast week an elder who has served in bethel gave the service meeting talk, which referred to the front page of the sep km (which i don't yet have) on the governing body's letter to all publishers.. he started by saying that "drastic times call for drastic measures" - bethel was going through periods of rapid change.. he referred to a symposium given by brother jaracz and splane last december, where they tried to brush off the layoffs saying everyone had to keep "up with jehovah's celestial chariot".
bethelites were being reassigned to the field, and this would be difficult for them.
some in bethel who were being reassigned had been there 20 or 30 years.

I think its really about money, they basically said that in the letter but not in those words.
They tried to spin it that "....machines cant preach, we need people to do that" yeah whatever the bottom line is why pay to house dead weight and find them keep busy work when they bought new presses that can do their jobs instead.

Did You Ever "Tell Off" An Elder or Circuit Overseer?
by minimus ini know of very few that would "dare" tell off a co but elders were different.
having been an elder for many years, it was very easy to go back and forth with a fellow elder and basically tell him he was dumb.

Elders yes... quite often about 2-4 yrs ago, lately I just sit in the elders meeting not giving a shit unless someone says something unkind about a publisher.
CO yes and it got me taken off as Congregation Secretary, good riddance to that assignment anyway since I was already a member of JWD by then. The man was an ass and I actually pointed out to him one of his precious WTS's own rules that he wasnt adhering too correctly. He wasnt to pleased about that but knew enough not to argue with me in front of PO and SO. Suddenly shortly after his visit I see on the agenda for our next quarterly meeting "Possible selection of new Secretary" Elders are so christlike its as if I were beholding Jesus himself... yeah right!

I pretend that I have to work late then stay and watch some videos that i downloaded on iTunes. I time my bus schedule perfectly from work so that I make it home at 7:45 so that I miss the Mrs as she angrily trots out kids in tow. I cant do that one that often though. I also fake allergies but only really effective in spring and fall.
