Currently I am trying to un-aspire to some of these "privileges" if thats a word or not, I dont know. As I mentioned in another thread last week being an elder is a joke. Most do not or should not make time for others and this includes shepherding calls, judicial case, etc since their own families are often a mess.

At Bethel one of my buddies called California "Cali-Porneia" I thought it was hilarious. Kidding aside though.. I think in general those areas with nicer climates such as Cali. and Hawaii for example the people tend to be more relaxed anyway and of course that was relected in the congs. as well.

What Is THE Number One Reason For JWs Leaving???
by minimus infrom what i can see, it's the "lack of love" that gets people to realize the witnesses don't have the "truth" after all!

Thanks Minimus,
Unfortunately I am speaking from experience..... its a bad bad situation in the Watchtower, last month on the Service Meeting there was a part called "Your Help is Needed" about reaching out. Nobody wants to do it anymore so they have resorted to begging.. people are starting to realize there there really is nothing to reach for.
To actually answer your question: The whole pedophile issue sickens me! I have vowed to go immediately to the police if this ever comes up in my congregation. If I am still in the "truth" at that time that is.

Gordy: Had to attend another congregation were the support was zero, I had one "shepherding" call in three years
Not to "high jack" a thread but I have to comment on this one. The truth is that most elders are too messed up themselves emotionally and mentally to do shepherding calls. I asked a CO once what encouragement are elders supposed to get and he replied: "from each other, if you really need help beyond that you should not be an elder anyway" Its the blind leading the blind. For most elders it isnt lack of love its working full time, taking care of their own kids, their own homes, working on parts almost every week, and getting little or no support from the society. What little support they do get are from clueless CO's.
Most CO's cant help because they have been in full time service for 20-30 yrs and only recently left their parents basement when they were called into CO work. Or worse yet, went to Bethel at 19 and left to be a CO.. never working in the real world a day in their lives. Now how can they undertand what the average person goes thru.
The whole system is a sham.

What does the elder manual say the procedure is?
by mkr32208 inwhat does the elder manual say the procedure is when someone reports child abuse?
my father in law is telling my wife that is says to go straight to the proper authorities... i have a hard time buying that since thats not what the watchtowers i've seen have said!
any one have the low down on this?

I don't have a elder's manual, but I have seen the BOE letters. The current policy is that if there is an accusation they are told to call the society right away. The society finds out what state they are in. If the state requires reporting, them tell them to notify the authorities. If the state does not require reporting, then they tell them to ask the accused if it is true. If they deny it, then they drop the whole thing unless a second accusation comes forward. This is exactly correct. This is what we were told repeatedly at CO visits as well as KM school in 2002, all verbally so that it is, in fact, untraceable as mentioned. The Branch office has been very specific in what it has printed regarding child abuse since it has been exposed a couple years ago. Bottom line is, if there are not 2 witnesses ,2 who witnessed the abuse or alternatively 2 different persons who report being abused, it really isnt acted on. All legality aside... we are speaking about innocent, young children here. Child abuse is heinous and disgusting and they are indefferent to it. It is simply amazing how they can react like this with something so terrible.

I have had both. Currently have Cable Modem Service. As already mentioned both are equal when simply web browsing, cable is much much faster when downloading large files such as.... well certain files that are slightly not legal sometimes.
As Q said, decide whats cheapest, and most convenient for you. In my area the cable modem service is no matter how much more expensive.

Were You One of Those That Ran To The Elders About Everything???
by minimus indid you always call the elders or talk to them about things?
did you have a favorite elder that you confided to about everything?
if someone was acting inappropriately, did you feel obliged to "report" them to the elders?

Minimus... thats so true, ministerial wannabe's are full of information and often will find out what you want to know. The thing is though, when these guys eventually become MS's they spy on you for the PO and CO so that they can become elders. Hall-otics are ridiculous indeed!

To what extent do the elders keep information on us?
by JH ini remember a few years ago, i changed congregation, so the elders told me that they had to send my folder to the other congregation.
when i was baptized, i don't remeber them telling me they kept information on me, and that they would pass it around to other congregations if ever i moved.. i wonder what kind of information is kept in these folders.
probably everyone in the congregation has his hours listed and the privileges they had written in it, but maybe there is alot more written that we don't even know about.

Blondie is absolutely correct, especially regarding the "informal" phone conversations. They happen frequently especially if there new ones in the cong. are being considered for appointment to privileges which is largely dependent on how much the elders personally like you anyway.
Stilla is also correct, the Quarterly meeting minutes where especially the brothers are discussed, also contain information but that is generally not filed. Copies are given to the individual elders for future reference.
Basically as Blondie mentioned, unless you were reproved or DF'ed, the only record they keep is that dreaded Publishers Record Card. What a joke that is too... I still don't know how they can explain that one scripturally.

Some JWs are in a Tizzy
by Kenneson ina pirated cd with kingdom melodies, first said to have been done by george benson and prince and their wives and later by george benson and celine dion and still later by george benson and an anonymous sister, is creating a stir in jehovist circles.
someone became suspicious and called george benson who told him that it was stolen by a brother who had left patterson and was put on a cd and distributed illegally.
someone else called the audiovisual dept.

Its safe to assume that many JW's come on here and just read posts. In fact I did it for several months before posting anything. I have seen many, many helpful posts giving encouragement, etc. On the other hand I have to say that I have reada few posts that could be insulting to the active JW. Granted those are in the minority.
So what is your view of JW's in general. Are they deceived, brain-washed, people in need of help to realize the truth or Are they callous, cold hearted, and self-righteous losers?
I have to be honest.... some of the postings I have read would tell me that the society is absolutely correct about "apostates" they are bitter and upset over what men have done to them. Fortunately for me, I happen to believe most of what I have learned about the "truth" and I am not turned away by this at all, everyone is free to have their own opinions. Sadly though I think that some JW's come here, read some of the posts and leave. Not that its your fault, but I just thought you should be aware of how some active JW's might feel.
