If this article is true, then we are still living in the same generation as Abraham Lincoln, by Watchtower definition.

generation overlap
by cskyjw.sun inin 1914 say an anoited was 14 years old lived up to 80years old in 1980;and then another jw became anoited say at age of 20and lives up to 100 years old, then "this generation" would stretch to1980+80=2060.so the end would extend for another 50 years.

Would Witnesses REALLY drink the "Kool-aid" if the faithful slave told them to? Yes or no?
by Witness 007 ina "spiritual leader" tells his followers the must put on rebok running shoes and "drink the cool-aid" to join a ufo in the tail of a comet and "go to a better world" so, afew dozen young people do just that to get "beamed up" to the mothership.
heavens gate cult 1990's.. my mother says "she is faithful to the organisation till her death" which makes me wonder if they ordered a mass suicide like the reverend jim jones did to escape a "great tribulation"....how many witnesses would really drink the cool-aid?...
without a gun pointed at their head of course!.

I asked my ex one time whether she would drink poisoned kool-aid if the org told her to, and she said yes. I was horrified, and asked if she would also feed it to our (then) infant daughter. She thought better of it from that perspective, thank God.

You know how the old mechanical alarm clocks would click a split second before the bell rang? That's where we are in the stream of time...between the click and the ring. At least that's where they said we were 40 years ago...

Deleted Elders?
by Farkel ini knew about elders being "deleted" and have commented what a strange and pejorative term that is, but it wasn't until "wtwizard" and "designs" commented on another thread about it that it actually hit home for me.. one cannot step down as an elder with any dignity!
elder's can't quit, with the word "quit" being as in "he quit his job.
" elder's can't resign as in "he resigned as chairman of the board for xyz corp.".

In general, the deletion notices are supposed to be related only to the matter of one's not continuing as an elder, regardless of the reason. Therefore, they are indeed worded the same whether the removal is for cause or at the person's request. I recall cases in which a person was publicly reproved, or even disfellowshipped and then a few weeks later, anannouncement is made that they have been deleted from their position. The rationale seemed to be that the local elders make the decision about the judicial action, but that elders and MS's can be appointed or removed only by the GB. That was the case when I was publicly reproved in 1973 - my deletion as a ministerial servant was announced several weeks after the reproof. Several people came up to congratulate me, thinking that the announcement meant that the restrictions associated with my reproof had now been lifted. At the time, appointments and deletions were handled only at the time of the Circuit Overseer's visit, so it could even be months after a judicial action that the deletion was announced.
In a different case, though, I remember a brother who stepped down from his position as elder - a good friend of mine, who was much beloved as an elder because of his sincere concern for the flock (a rare elder indeed). When the deletion was announced, the elders added a statement that brother XXX had asked to be removed because of family obligations and that the congregation was very grateful for his faithful service. I thought that was the way it should be done all the time, but it was the only time I ever saw anything like that.

They sound like an unusually thoughful group of JW's to me. Most that I knew would have been far too busy with field service to visit someone who was sick.

"Evidently" implies the existence of "evidence." I'd sure like to know what that might be - apart from the failure of their previous teaching, that is.

John 14:2 - what does it mean
by quietlyleaving infrom the 21st century king james version (biblegateway).
2in my father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, i would have told you.
i go to prepare a place for you.. for some reason this verse keeps coming into my mind.

In the wedding customs of the Hebrews, a man who had become engaged would traditionally leave his bride-to-be in order to construct an addition to his father's house where he could live with his new bride. the father had to approve of the work before the groom was allowed to go and collect the bride to bring her back for the wedding. The bride had to be ready at all times, since the groom would come at any time that he was able - even in the middle of the night. Jesus' saying to His followers, "I go to prepare a place for you" was basically wedding talk that they would have understood given the culture of the time. Some of Jesus' parables, such as that of the wise and foolish maidens, also reflect this custom.
A book that I found to shed great light on the culture of the Bible times (and which is among the sources from which I took the above) is Manners and Customs of Bible Lands by Fred H. Wright. I discussed this material in more detail in my Communion sermon at this past October's Witnesses Now for Jesus convention in PA.
