out of the many things from the bible i wonder about there was one i thought i would share with you all and see if you may have any interesting insights on this issue.. according to the bible man was suppose to live forever, no sickness, easy childbirth for women, just your basic paradise, right?.
so ok, we all know that because that wretched eve screwed it up for all of us and everything we now have suffering and death.. my problem with all of this is this: what if all the people who had ever lived had never died?
how many of us would there be on the planet?

Actually, the Bible never says that, nor does it tell us what God's plan would have been for Adam and Eve if they had not sinned. The Watchtower reasons that eternal paradise on earth would have been the result, because that fits with their theology. But to get to that conclusion, they need to assert the dubious premise that God didn't know what would happen after He created man. I don't want to get into issues of predestination and free will here, but the Bible does tell us that God knows the end from the beginning, therefore, I would have to conclude that God knew in advance that Adam and Eve would sin, and what the consequences would be. So, it may well be that there was no plan for what would happen if man didn't sin, simply because God knew all along that he would.

caller id ain't for me .

I have caller ID where I am now, mainly because I carried it over from my previous number when I lived in another state. I had it there largely because of the enormous number of telephone solicitors who called me. I would get home from work around 6:00 p.m., and it was not unusual to have 6 or 7 solicitors call before I went to bed. Of course, caller ID didn't prevent the calls, so I took another tack, answering the calls and firmly telling the solicitors to take me off their calling list. That seemed to work, because the number of calls dropped greatly once I did that.
Caller ID was also helpful whili I was going through my divorce; there were times I didn't feel like talking with certain people.
It's also helpful because it shows you a list of whoever called while you were away, even if they didn't leave a message.
And, I understand that some here have used it as a way of avoiding unwanted contact from JW elders who were harassing them.
So, I do think caller ID has its place as a tool in these days of modern times.

Being a Roman soldier would soon give serious problems in upholding the Christ like charecter.
The same Man who told us to turn the other cheek violently expelled the moneychangers from the temple. Obviously, He was not opposed to all forms of violence.
You are trying to use human reasoning to make the scriptures say what they do not. Whether you are a JW or not isn't relevant, but in this instance, you are reasoning in the same way that they do. Just accept what the Bible says, rather than saying that things that are not in there, should be.

i am a believer in christ have been df'd since 7/01, but left the jw's in my heart for some time before that.. i feel that the gifts of the spirit didn't end in the 1st and 2nd century but should continue until the church is no longer on earth.. i have been to serveral different christian groups and have heard many speak in tongues, but to be honest i'm not very impressed.. it seems to be, not supernatural,.. but more like the reaction you get when you jump in very cold water, and get a terrible chill that makes your jaw vibrate.. the women seems to be the most prominent ones in speaking in tongues, so i wonder if it is just an emotional response, more than any thing else?.
and if paul said to limit the speaking in tongues to just 2 and only if there is an interpeter, why does the speaking in tongues become so prominent at these meetings?
and how come i never hear a translator interpet what is said?.

Apparently not, I'm not Pentecostal myself, so I can't say what the schedule is or if there is one, but on the few occasions I've stumbled into a Pentecostal or charismatic church, I've never seen anything too unusual. The strangest was when some people prostrated themselves on the floor at one point during the service - I was later told that they were "slain in the spirit," but I haven't figured out what that really means. But the more dramatic manifestations have somehow eluded my presence. Too bad, because I'd like to see some of this stuff happen, at least once.

It sort of contradicts rest of NT scripture if he went on being a soldier. You will see he would soon run into 'crisis of consciousness'.
You are certainly entitled to your opinion on the matter, and I can even understand how you might feel that way from an emotional standpoint. However, I am considering what the scripture actually says. The prohibition of killing in the Law clearly does not apply to situations of war, since Israel fought many of them with God's blessing. The bottom line is that there is no scripture anywhere that says that a Christian cannot serve as a soldier, and plenty of indication that it is acceptable for him to do so. Paul used the soldier's life as an example of the Christian life, an odd thing for him to do if being a soldier were considered immoral by the Christians. As I've said many times before, if we just read the Bible, and forget about the Watchtower's interpretations, we get a whole different picture of things.

I have always wondered about the speaking in tongues...almost tempted to go to a Pentcostal Church just to see them in action.I've been to a few Pentecostal churches and have yet to see any "action". (Errr...you know what I mean) Perhaps they save it for special occasions?
