Maybe I'm technologically impaired. I've set up a Gravatar account and uploaded a few pictures, but how do I get the pictures over here?

Nonetheless, I look somewhat different now. I've often thought that I should replace it with something more recent, but for the life of me, I haven't been able to figure out how to change my profile picture. Can anybody give me the Complete Idiot's Guide to Changing Your Profile Picture on JWN?

Is the 10 Hour Per Month Requirement Still In Force?
by Conan The Barbarian inare there any active elders/ms or higher out there who can advise if one of the requirements for appointment is that the person's fs time is equal to or greater than either the congregation's average or the national average?
this used to be the case, but may have been relaxed.
also is the branch still approving appointments?

The "national average" concept always struck me as a bit of a scam, even when I was a JW. The definition of an average requires that half the people fall below it. If everybody made the national average, the national average would increase, at which time the publishers would be encouraged to strive for the NEW national average, thus driving it up more and more. If it worked the way the WTS would like it to, it would result in ever-increasing demands on the publishers that they could never manage to keep up with. Oh, wait, the organization is already like that. Never mind...

Emmanuel Goldstein
by d inin george orwell's 1984 the percieved enemy emmanuel goldstein wrote a book called theory and practice of oligarchical collectivism in where on one one number he talks ignorace as source of strength for the people in control.. this says lot about the jw's and people in power.. the theory and practice of oligarchical collectivism.
chapter i - ignorance is strength.
throughout recorded time, and probably since the end of the neolithic age, there have been three kinds of people in the world, the high, the middle, and the low.

In the novel 1984, it seems pretty obvious that Goldstein didn't really exist, but was a creation of the Party as a focal point to attract those who were less than loyal. The document you have shared was written by some Party member and its distribution controlled by the Party in order to smoke out dissenters. I'm surprised the Society hasn't thought of an equivalent scheme - creating their own "apostate" literature and controlling its distribution so as to identify those who are not fully on board with the program.

Green Lantern came out the closet!
by MC RubberMallet inis that why they got ryan reynolds to play the part?.

Actually, it's not the same Green Lantern that the movie was about. The newly gay character is actually the GL of "Earth-2," a parallel universe that was originally developed to showcase the characters who were in DC comics of the 1940's, including the original versions of GL, the Flash, the Atom and many others. DC recently revamped its continuity, so the GL of the 1940's has now been transformed into a young man who is gay. The previous version of the Earth-2 GL was an older man with a wife and children.

Would Witnesses drink "the cool-aid" if instructed to by the Governing body?
by Witness 007 inmy anionted mum always said she's "willing to die for the truth like the brothers in the concentration camps".....how many witnesses would do this, like the "heavens gate" suicide group or the tokyo cult that tried to start armagedon with subway gas attacks or even the 9/11 terrorists?.
the brothers in the camps in world war 2 were told by rutherford this is armagedon.
so they thought a quick death and then "poof"...i'm in paradise.. .

I once asked my (now ex-)wife that very question, and she said that she would. Then I asked her if she would also give it to our (then) baby daughter. She had to think about it for a bit, but finally said she wouldn't do that.

there is even an upcoming kingdom ministry article pushing for kids in school to “vacation pioneer”.
Are they actually using that term again? They did away with the term "vacation pioneer," like, 40 years ago.

Has anyone ever used a non-NWT (New World Translation) bible at meetings / study?
by biometrics inabout 1 year ago (before i faded), i purchased an old king james bible from ebay and started using it in the meetings and when a brother came over to study with me.. a common reaction of fellow jws was to stare at the bible, then say "what type of bible is that?
", then they'd sometimes ask to look at it, and flip to john 1:1. when they saw what it said, they'd treat it like it was apostate material, even though a few decades earler it was the same bible jws used.. i strongly encourage any lurkers/faders to use another bible at the meetings and see what type of reactions you get.. .

I used to occasionally bring different translations to the Book Study. It was no big deal, in fact, some of the people there were interested in the comparative readings. I would use Byington's translation and the Amplified Bible that I recall specifically, but I think there were others at times, too.
