Baptism is it really a dedication to God, where in the Bible?
by Crazyguy ini haven't found a scripture where it says that baptism is a dedication to god.
i have only found in the book of acts chapter 2 i believe where baptism is for forgiveness of sins.

I haven't found a Scripture where it says that Baptism is a dedication to God.
My father said this after 40 years as a witness and serving as an elder. i found it odd.

Your thoughts on Halloween , yes, no or maybe ?
by Finkelstein inwell its that time again when the ghouls come out to play.
i personally think halloween is a bit irresponsible and inappropriate from a sociological perspective.. there's something about the intent of frightening young impressionable children minds with frightening objests.
and feeding them candy which most likely cause tooth decay and stomachs is irresponsible activity conducted by adults.

If you still believe, do you go to church?
by ThinkerBelle inwhile i'm still finding my journey and figuring out what exactly i believe in, i'm curious to know if others on this board who do still believe in a god attend other churches and what drew you to them.
sorry if this topic has been brought up before, i tried to do a search, but didn't find what i was looking for.. having been born and raised in jwland, how easily do you give up those doctrines that have been so thoroughly engrained?
even sort of celebrating (more like acknowledging, no party) my son's birthday seemed so strange to me because i've never done that, but it felt good to see him smile about it.

I do not go to church. I have visited Catholic, Anglican and Baptist but that was only because of someone else, they didn't wish to go alone. I am still a Christian. I have discussions with my family that includes theologians and that is enough for me at this point.
I had little desire to attend the Kingdom Hall all the years that I went having been raised a Witness, nothing to do with not believing I just don't enjoy crowds, or singing hymns or having to be somewhere at a set time. I have no desire to repeat the experience at a new church.
When we stopped attending the Kingdom Hall we had young children they have grown up ok and are well-educated adults and are Christian.

Did you like hymns as a jw?
by jean-luc picard ini was just explaining to mrs picard........ never a jw, and not english, how we used to celebrate the harvest festival, when i was 7 and younger, before my parents converted to jw'ism.. i loved to sing "we plough the fields and scatter".
of course, singing such hymns is, to a jw, paramount to apostasy, with the death penalty like punishment the ensued.. how really stupid their harsh rules.. did you have any favourite hymns?.
i think we would all agree, that they beat the pants off the "kingdom melodies".

I find them cold. Reminds me of Sundays when I was a child and I hated Sunday more than Saturday -
