There were two brothers. One was an alcoholic the other wasn't. The one who wasn't spoke several times to the one who was but to no avail. The one who was alcoholic said he wanted to drink he enjoyed it and if it shortened his life that's ok with him. When he died at a young age. The other brother felt it was his choice and he was awear of the consequences there wasn't anything else he could have done In a similar way i think i would consider the kool aid drinker. Whilst obeying the law.

ucant its interesting that three times now you have avoided wrestling with the moral question and taken refuge in law.
Religious people tend to do that a lot.

I'm saying that I cannot imagine the situation without the law as I cannot just get rid of something I know.

I don't feel I'm taking refuge in anything although I feel you mention religion and cast it in a negative light I haven't brought it up, 'tend to do that' is just your opinion. Why do you feel the need to do that cofty?

Difficult to say

I think I would be obliged by law to react to the suicide and as I cannot imagine the situation without that I can't give a clear answer.

so you feel age makes a difference and you would go against someone's wishes if you felt it might save their life and that is ethically right

With mental capacity he decided he did not want to go to hospital he would want me to support his choice that he had a right to make.

Supporting a choice on medical procedure as opposed to assisting suicide in my view is different.

I think it is viewed differently in the eyes of the law. I feel I have a choice. There is no guarantee the medical procedure will save the persons life. Like my mother, not having the chemo didn't result in her death. I would not have forced my opinion on to her if she could not make her own decision. I'm not taking life.

It seems as if you are trying to force your opinions on to me.

Cofty i don't see that age makes a difference to the morality.

My mother had cancer and had surgery to be followed by chemo. She refused. I didn't argue with her. It was her choice. I don't see that as immoral. This is 20 years ago.

cofty I think people have a right of choice to medical procedures and I respect that. I have known of an ex witness who still did not want a blood transfusion it was a choice. I suppose my choice would be to uphold a persons freedom of choice in the matter.

I think assisting suicide is illegal while not having a blood transfusion isn't.
