"The G.B. is neither inspired nor infallible"
by smiddy inthat admission in the feb.17 ,study edition of the watchtower , " who is leading gods people today ?
" "the governing body is neither inspired, nor infallible, therefore it (they/we) can err in doctrinal matters or in organizational direction .".
have the many jehovahs witnesses past and present who have lost their lives by refusing blood transfusions due to the prohibition on blood tranfusions by jehovahs witnesses really got the sense of this statement ?.

I may be wrong but I think that Matthew 18:18 is applied to disfellowshipping and it is sort of past tense they are only carrying out what has already been bound in heaven and so it would seem to me to make their decisions infallible say on blood transfusions. -

Successes you enjoyed since leaving the Org
by Tallon inthought i would start a discussion, and hopefully a positive one, on what successes you’ve enjoyed since leaving the org.. each of us is different as people, in life experiences etc.
however we all share one common factor in that we have all experienced the negativity, to a greater or lesser degree, of being a jw and the org.. each success is worth celebrating so i invite you to share some of your achievements.
it does not matter how ‘big or small’ it is, share it with us.. my achievement means a great deal to me both personally and professionally.

Jehovah's Witnesses ARE Christians, why do so many ex JW's deny this?
by nicolaou injehovah's witnesses accept jesus as christ, the son of god.
they try, in their own way, to live by his teachings and imitate him.
they pray, read the bible and meet together regularly for worship.. i won't minimise any of the harm and damage they cause but for the life of me, i can't see how anyone can credibly deny that they are christians.. why do so many former jws have a problem with this?

If you say "JW are not based on the teaching of Jesus Christ because Jesus never teach 1914 and ..".
The same is true of "Catholic are not Christian because Jesus never teach purgatory ...".
I think the difference to me is that the teaching about 1914 is the good news that is being declared in fulfillment of Matthew 24:14 and tied to Romans 10:16,17 and therefore the servant in Isaiah 52/53 as was the good news declared by the apostle Paul whereas I don't think that purgatory is (I could be wrong). As a christian I think our faith and salvation is tied to the good news and needs to be true.

Just explaining my comment made earlier in the thread.
In my opinion, I think of the parable of the of the rich man and Lazarus. When we die could answer the question
As a witness I thought that those who serve the triune God die and expect to go to heaven but our hope was that we would not die of old age but live on into the thousand year reign of Christ surviving Armageddon. Our sacred service to our God I thought was primarily the preaching of the 'Good News' (Matthew 24:14) In Hebrews 10:23 "Let us hold fast the public declaration of our hope without wavering," (NWT) For me and my parents that hope was that we would survive the great tribulation and Armageddon and live on into the righteous conditions after these events. I believe that the first Watchtower publication that my parents studied Look I am making all things new makes this clear see the thread Another generation... (Im not able to link to it)
Our worship our sacred service in connection with God's eternal purpose would mean our salvation in judgement day. However my father lived his life as a Jehovah's Witness and died in his 80's longer than the national average I believe, he was active in the preaching and teaching and had served as an elder and pioneered at times. His older brother died at about the same time, he wasn't a witness. My understanding is that both of these have the hope of being included in the general resurrection. Which would lead one to conclude that my father's hope that he made and held 'fast the public declaration of our hope without wavering' was a false hope. Which in my opinion would then bring into question his sacred service, his worship of the one God and not the triune God. Which reminds me of 1 Corinthians 15:19 'If in this life only we have hoped in Christ we are of all men, most to be pitied' In the Watchtower publication "Man's Salvation Out Of World Distress At Hand" commenting on this verse on page 29 it says.
"After all that we have gone through since 1914, our generation would be, of all generations the "most to be pitied".Think of it, though! Worthy ones of this generation of mankind will be saved alive out of the rest of this world distress so as to survive the worst of it and enter into God's Messianic new system of things and not need a resurrection from the dead to life on earth! This is a valid hope well founded on what was said by Jesus Christ..."
When the apostle wrote this he was talking of the resurrection of Christ which was good news that he preached about and what it meant.
So having the evidence in my life of my father's public declaration of his hope and how it turned out I would question his religion as being Christian in my opinion.
However I agree that it is a matter of perspective.

Millions now living will never die (orginally "may" never die) was the WTS lying
by blondie inthis was first said in 1918 and adjusted to "will never die" in 1920. of course, the wts taught that the anointed had to die to go to heaven; but there was no great crowd teaching then, so they were talking about all non-anointed people on earth.
the wts members were known as bible students then and had been expecting the end in 1914 and it was adjusted.
one date that was stressed at that time was 1925. so i think they idea was that people living in 1918 would be alive to see the end in 1925, which of course did not happen.

I think they teach to gain salvation you need to be preaching their message and be convinced of it.
I would find it difficult to believe God require this as it doesn't appear to have been true in the past.

it could be that they don't see their sacred service leading to their salvation and as Christ is saviour it may lead to the thought they aren't Christian

If a JW Came To Your Door How Would You Handle It?
by minimus injehovah's witnesses have never come to my door but they have come to my girlfriends door.
i have coached her as to what to say or ask but it appears that they always seem to come when she's not there.
.....just curious would you get into it with a jehovah's witness at your door especially if it was someone you did not know?.

Do they know what 7.5 billion dead bodies look like?
by jambon1 inin their sick and twisted bubble that they live in, the jehovahs witnesses clearly have no idea about the logistical nightmare of disposing of 7.5 billion corpses.. when i heard an elder once say that it will be a joy to clear away the wicked from the earth, he actually had a smile on his face.. can they even begin to imagine what 7.5 billion dead men, women, children & babies looks like?.
"let the eye feel no sorrow".
sick bastards..

I thought it the tribulation/Armageddon would be like the flood, Noah was shut up in the Ark shouldn't think he saw or herd much with the animal noises and everything. In 70AD the beleavers had left Jerusalem.
My father was always on about antimatter in his answers at the meetings.

This may be a crazy question, but it popped in my head and won't leave. . So I gotta ask. . .
by Miss Worldly inok, this probably applies to most faith systems that believe in any sort of afterlife, but i would like to know what sort of explanation the jw's would come up with for this little problem, you know, after armageddon on earthly paradise.
sorry if i sound dumb, but it's been nagging at me for a few weeks and have to ask.. so, what if a young married jw couple are living their life, waiting for the big a, knowing they will be together in the earthly paradise, then very sadly one of them dies.
from what i know, if a jw dies, that's it.

Two things come to my mind. One. From the way I understood it the dead are not conscious of anything. To them time doesn't exist. So I conclude the resurrection would seem to be instant almost as if there was no break in time.
So my friend who died in bed with his wife could wake up in the resurrection and find it felt like any other night but this morning was very different. Strangely, disappointingly, his marriage is over and his wife is remarried forever. He may feel a sense of betrayal, he may need a trained counsellor.
Two. Before 1975 when I was young I remember having a fear of dying and the resurrection. With the end so so close coming back in a resurrection and living for eternity never being able to fall in love and marry was a horrible thought.
