Long time apostate, first time poster.
by mtbatoon in.
just found this site today and as well as being amused, concerned and shocked at some of the stuff i?ve found here, reading the bios and posts of other ex jw?s has in a way made me feel a little bit less alone in the world.
don?t get me wrong, i?m not an emotionally scared loner, it?s like i?ve finally found someone else to stand outside morning assemble with.

by Norm inhey folks,.

Can someone give us an update on this situation? I'm not asking for details, just some general information would be helpful.
Is the WO site in the planning stages of going up again on another server somewhere in this wide, wide world?
How long will it take before it is online again?
This is the type of information that I'm looking for.

Studies over....................sob............they dont want me...
by holly instraight away told im not ready for baptism, not with the amount and depth of questions, that ive been warned about these sites and that apostates will do anything to knock jws.
proving its the true religion bec the bible says it will happen (shows me scriptures).
also told it doesnt happen with any other religious group - usually people just quietly leave and make no fuss - further proof that ths is the true religion.. i asked about all the dates where predictions were made, eg 1914, 1975. was told there were some articles loosly talking the 'possibility' of something happening, but the wt never said it definitely would - how could it, these are just ordinary men, not profits.

Holly,
Jaypeeto mentioned reading the Ante-Nicene Fathers - The Writings of the Fathers Down to A.D. 325. They are online at:
http://www.ccel.org/fathers2/
And if you still want to study the BIBLE (not WT books) why not use this Bible Study Outline to help you organize your thoughts. -

Only Jehovah's Witnesses
by Yvonne A ini'm just new to this internet stuff and am studying with the jehovah's witnesses at present.please don't take my lack of knowledge as cheek.
i just want to know if it's meant to be only jehovah's witnesses using this site.
i fully intend to become baptised but was wondering if there's any security to prevent people who shouldn't be using the site and are maybe abusing it from doing so.

SORRY
by Yvonne A ini apologise for upsetting most of you by logging onto this site.
i stumbled onto it by accident and stupidly never noticed that it said discussion forum, everyone welcome.
i just thought it was a site where witnesses discussed subjects, and did not expect such a negative response to my naivety.

"[I] did not expect such a negative response" - Yvonne
I've read all of the responses and thought that most of them were very nice. Now if you define the word 'negative' to mean 'opposite to my viewpoint' I can understand how you feel. But don't you think that sometimes it is good for us to read and consider a differing viewpoint from our own?
Stick around and just read the posts if you feel uncomfortable 'talking' to us any more.

Yvonne,
I won't discourage you from studying the Bible, but the Watchtower publications take verses out of their original context and link them together to form a meaning that was never intended. A humorous example of what I mean is this:
"Matthew 27:5 So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself." "Deuteronomy 22:3 In like manner shalt thou do . . . likewise:"
So by pulling these 2 verses out of their original context we can 'prove' that the Bible teaches us that we are to go out and 'hang ourselves'. NOT!!!
Now for a 'real' Watchtower example of this method of Bible study check out page 218 of the 'Reasoning' book. The topic discussed is Jesus equals Michael the archangel. Notice how all of the scriptures are taken out their original context to 'prove' this teaching.
Now using the the Bible Study Outline, study these same verses within their original context (ie reading the whole chapter) and ask yourself the questions - who? what? where? and when? and see if you arrive at the same 'teaching' that the Watchtower puts forth in the 'Reasoning' book.
When you have done this exercise, show it to the person who has been studying with you and see what their reaction will be. One very important fact to mention here is that Kay Arthur, the author, is not, has never been, and probably does not know ANY JW doctrine, so she cannot possibly be considered an 'apostate'.
Here is something else to consider.
The Watchtower has written a booklet entitled, "Should You Believe in the Trinity?" This booklet contains many quotations that have also been 'ripped from their original context' and made to look like these books support the Watchtower doctrine. Study the material found in the following 2 links:
Frieda Landry, the author of that website has also never been a JW, so she is not an 'apostate'.
After you have studied the material at the above site, ask yourself this question -
Why would an organization that teaches 'The Truth' misquote so many sources to 'prove' their teachings?
Again ask the person you study with the same above question.
This is only a tiny start to the way you should 'study' before you decide to be baptized as a Jehovah's Witness.

Disfellowshiped for reading Crisis of Conscience?
by Blueblades inis it true?
can you be disfellowshiped for reading crisis of conscience?
is that why some have read it in the library out of sight of other witnesses and elders themselves read it in secrecy?.

holly,
Check out my web page about Johannes Greber. I think that it will answer your question about why the NWT has the little 'a' before God in John 1:1
