  Might go visit the New York crew

  i have a five day weekend coming up between june 30th and july 4th.. i'm thinking about heading up to see new york city, so would some of you new yorkers like to have a mini-fest and show me the sights?.

  i'll need someone to refer me to a hotel that is in a good location for seeing the sights, but will not cost much more than about $100 a night.

  either that or someone could put me up in a spare room.. let me know your thoughts!!

  Did You Believe "The End" Was Going To Come In Your Lifetime?

  when the society came out in 1966 with the info that 6000 years of man's existence would come to an end by 1975, i thought it was a crock.

  for 9 long years, all jws did was speculate about "when" the great tribulation was going to begin.

  i always thought of jesus' words about "nobody knowing the day or the hour"----yet jehovah's witnesses figured it out?

  So the 1975 issue actually drove you to drive without a license and fornication?

  If I had it to do over I would drive without a license while fornicating. Live and learn, I guess.

  I was 18 and graduated high school in 1975. It really upset me when I heard from the platform that by 1975 not only was the end coming but that everything would be wrapped up by then.

  Keep in mind that we were fed a steady diet of tribulation and persecution. Added to that was the idea that we were to possibly die due to the assult of persecution. One final element of the craziness of what we were taught was that if we died we be like angels in the resurrection. Thus, NOT able to marry or worse - have sex. I never understood if that ment that I would be resurrected without a penis...but we digress.

  So, here I was a teenager with normal hormones and I genuinely believed what I was taught. I had two goals before the great tribulation: to drive a car and to get married so I could have sex.

  WHAT A F#$%^&G WAY to GROW UP.

  Learning how to learn and understand is the greatest skill you can get from a higher education. Once you understand the process of learning it becomes very clear when you are being fed half truths and outright lies.

  This is what the society is worried about.

  This has to backfire big time.

  I remember one time at the meeting an elder started ranting about all the porno on the internet. Keep in mind that this was in the early days when these sites were not everywhere. I was a good christian that also used the internet for work and school. But at the time tt never occured to me that there might be these sites out there.

  So after hearing this brother foaming at the mouth I immediately went home and found all kinds of really neat web sites. Thank you Bro Miller!!

  i stopped going out in service about a year ago.

  just couldn't take it anymore.

  after that, i still continued "studying" with my kids and "counting the time" for that.

  You are much more a pain in the a## if you are irregular than if you are inactive. If you want to annoy the elders turn in one hour ever fourth month. They will love you for that especially when the CO comes to town.

  You got the story all wrong. God could save him. However, because of the man's faith god decided to give him the heavenly reward immediately as opposed to having this faithful man wait his whole life.

  So, what happened was absolute proof that god exists and rewards the faithful.

  How could anyone miss this most important point.

  i just wondered about this, because in rev.

  7:9, it speaks of the great crowd and in verse 14 and says that these are the ones that came out of the great tribulation.

  verse 15 further states that they are before the throne of god, serving him day and night in his temple.

  Anytime there is a significant event you will find some JWs that will say that "this is the beginning of the GT." However, I have never heard anything more than a statement of wishful thinking.

  Do you remember the fried chicken on white bread? mmmmm. The only thing that could be better is if you were lucky enough to get the meal from the bottom of the container when the bread and grease from the fried chicken merged into on solid white mass.

  i wandered outside the convention around mid-afternoon, returning for the concluding song, so i didn't get to hear "summary of the botchtower" nor the final talk (which gets all the seals clapping).. .
