1975 Letdown increasingly becoming topic of conversations among witnesses
by Meeting Junkie No More ini have noticed that more and more, witnesses seem to be discussing the 1975 debacle amongst themselves, and agreeing that it is amazing that witnesses as a whole are all still here and the world is still here, and their kids are now in high school, or married, or whatever.
they also seem to be discussing the importance of retirement plans, in direct contradiction to what cos and dos are spouting at the annual conventions.... the last time this happened was at a recent funeral, where another long-time witness had passed on.
the interesting thing was that a younger group were discussing this, and some of them weren't even around in '75!.

I was convinced not that 1975 was the year, but rather that the generation of 1914 would be around before the GT. I could live with the fact that 1975 did not work, as long as I had the generation concept firmly in place.
I think that the "generation of 1914" drop during the mid 90's had a more significant effect on the physche of the r&f than the passing of 1975.

My Bethel Experience Part 6
by new boy ini 'm sorry all of this is not in order.............i'm writing as all this comes back to me.. my first room assignment was room 33 in the 129 building....it was and old building, built around the turn of the century,...the society owned it but it had worldly people in to.......i'm not sure why but maybe there was a law that provented them from being kicked out or something.
it was a 2 bedroom, 1 bath apartment (about 1000 sq.
ft.) there were 7 of us in there, all new boys ( less then one year there).

I don't know why I missed this post 11 months ago. The society sold this building and it eventually went coop. I bought an apartment six years ago. Best investment ever. Apartment 33 is owned by the Co-op president and could probably be sold now for around $1 Million. I have gone to several christmas parties there. Great place.

Cognac. Welcome.
Is all I can say when I read your post is "been there done that." It is a very very painful process. Once you unravel one "supposed" truth they all come unraveled. You are at the beginning of a very painful trip. Good luck to you.

Allow Me to Introduce Myself
by GoddessRachel inhello.. my parents converted to jehovah's witnesses when they were pretty much newlyweds and raised their children as such.
i was 100% in it until a series of events happened to me as a young adult that ultimately led to my deciding it's simply not worth it.
i haven't had a relationship that could pass for normal with my jw family ever since.

Moments at the District Assembly You'll Never Forget...
by integ ini'll never forget the assembly in madison, wi.
where some poor sap had to tell everyone that he had become addicted to porno on the net, but through much prayerful contemplation and after confessing to the elders he was able to come to "grips" with it.. good luck to that guy with ever getting a fine sister to marry him.. poor guy.
i really felt sorry for him.

We had the same "I was addicted to internet porn" confession at our convention a year or two ago. I thought that the guy must really love Jehovah to confess and try to help others by spilling his guts. He was in my congregation.
It is totally possible that these were "canned" presentations. I have know times where the circuit could not find the unique circumstances required to fit the setting and were forced to make up presentations. This was done without ever letting the audience know.

Upcoming Elders Schooling
by Questions1 init's no secret that the "organization" has increased it's cia, national security clerance only super-secret attitude in regards to the elder school that is going to be conducted soon.
a few days ago, i had a conversation with an elder who has been in the fold all of his life practically.
in keeping with the conversation style of jws, the gentleman told me that nobody knows what exactly will be taught at the meetings, but in his backdoor conversations with some brothers who seem to be tuned into the bethel's officially, unofficial, communications network, the elders are going to be taught "post-armageddon" teachings.

The brother then went on to explain that the time of the end is closer than ever before. He backed his assertion with more information he obtained with a brother with ties to Bethel. Alledgedly, the feeling is that the prophecy of the King of the North and South has been fullfilled and that the cry for peace and security might not be an actual statement, but a shared emotion that the two superpowers share for a brief time.
I used to love conversations like that. I felt that I was a part of something very special. In all of human history god has chosen the time I live to fulfill all these wonderful things. What a great feeling. But then it wears very thin and you begin to realize that every generation has had the same feeling and nothing is differerent now.
