New York City...OMG What Is Happening??

look at the new york post online today and watch the videos of mayhem and destruction to the city with fires all over manhattan.

the police vehicles are being destroyed and torched and the rioting just goes on and on.. i regularly went to nyc sometimes once a month for years.

now, who on earth would want to go to this hellhole??.

My point was that New Yorkers live their lives. The sky is not falling, at least not from violence in the streets, as you suggest. The city is truly affected economically - very sad and disturbing. But this is a different conversation from what is suggested in this thread.

Minimus, I am late to the conversation, I apologize for responding late, but I gotta say, as a New Yorker living in mid-town Manhattan, I am very offended by your comment.

NYC remains a wonderful place. Several weeks ago I saw a few peaceful marches, but never what you describe. I tried to find the videos about the "fires." Maybe I missed something, but I did not see anything that comes close to the mayhem you suggest.

Yes, NYC is suffering a severe economic disaster. And, yes, you can find pockets of idiots (including our mayor). But, never forget that NYC will survive. It is actually far more pleasant without all those damn tourists walking at 3 miles an hour.

first off, this is a book you want to read.

avoid the movie franchise at all costs.

horrible movies.. here's why i recommend this book: its prime focus is using rational reasoning to form your life philosophy - whether that be relationships, career or faith.. it also gives insight into the mind of someone who survived the geopolitical equivalent of the jws - the communist regime of stalin.. the antagonists of the book are referred to as "collectivists".

I was in an Ayn Rand phase during my escape from the Watchtower. I think what appealed to me was that the writing was so shockingly opposite from what I was taught my whole life. I have read the Fountainhead numerous times, and will probably return to the book a few more times. It is interesting how I process the book depending on where I am in my life. I enjoyed The Fountainhead much more than Atlas Shrugged.

While I appreciate her philosophy, I do not consider myself a Rand follower. My political and life philosophy is much more centric than what Rand was preaching.

A common sign of an organization in decline is when they sell assets to support continuing operations. This is an unsustainable model.

I remember this quote. At the time I was 12 years old. This should be abhorrent to anyone. However, the Watchtower can simply say "fake news." So, I don't see how this is the great take down of the Wt.
