He once chatted with me while I was working on a wall in the connection to the 90 Sands property, almost twenty years ago. He was a kind old man that believed in the organization. Captive of a concept like all of us once were. I'm sad for his passing and hope that it was peaceful.

Can men openly celebrate and appreciate female beauty without being accused of objectifying?

Jehovah the Pedophile
by MoneurMallard innum 31:17 now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him.
num 31:18 but all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.
is it any wonder why so many turn a bad leaf when it comes to sexual morality in the jehovah's witness organization.

Just remember that man wrote the bible.
That's precisely the point.

Today's Watchtower Lesson Really Bothered Me...
by dontplaceliterature ini was a hair away from telling my wife i never wanted to go to the kingdom hall again after today's watchtower.
the conductor mentioned something along the lines of..."if you think having to shun your disfellowshipped children is bad...you should read up on the israelites.
when one of their children was disobedient to the law, they had to take the before the judges so that they could be stoned to death...and guess who's job it was throw the first stone?".

New To Wine - Looking for Suggestions
by HintOfLime inusually, in the evenings i like to relax, watch a movie or a comple tv shows, and sip on some vodka.. lately, however, i've gotten into reading again - and vodka just isn't the right drink.
the characters in the books are often read of drinking this wine or that - which has given me a bit of a craving for a good red wine.
something relaxing, and easy enough that it doesn't get you buzzed after a few sips (inhibiting my ability to read, etc.).

If you're looking for sweet, check out some Ports and Sherries.
Croft makes a nice Port. Been in business for over 400 years.
Harvey's Bristol Cream is an inexpensive sherry. It's enjoyable on the rocks with a twist of lime.

Jehovah little different than Satan? He's not worthy to walk in Satan's shadow.

The scenery made the drudgery a little more bearable.

Belief to non-belief
by Awen inhave anyone here went from being a very strict believer in god to a non-believer?.
actually i think many are.. but outside of the usual answers of "god doesn't exist" (which you must have had some very valid reasons for), were there many things that caused you to come to this conclusion?
i was watching a southpark video about joseph smith and the mormons and i thought it very funny that anyone could actually believe any of that stuff.

Your comment about wanting to believe reminded me of what Sagan wrote about the Witnesses and 1914:
One prominent American religion confidently predicted that the world would end in 1914. Well, 1914 has come and gone, and - whole the events of that year were certainly of some importance - the world did not, at least so far as I can see, seem to have ended. There are at least three responses that an organized religion can make in the face of such a failed and fundamental prophecy. They could have said, Oh, did we say '1914'? So sorry, we meant '2014'. A slight error in calculation. Hope you weren't inconvinenced in any way. But they did not. They could have said, Well, the world would have ended, except we prayed very hard and interceded with God so He spared the Earth. But they did not. Instead, the did something much more ingenious. They announced that the world had in fact ended in 1914, and if the rest of us hadn't noticed, that was our lookout. It is astonishing in the fact of such transparent evasions that this religion has any adherents at all. But religions are tough. Either they make no contentions which are subject to disproof or they quickly redesign doctrine after disproof. The fact that religions can be so shamelessly dishonest, so contemptuous of the intelligence of their adherents, and still flourish does not speak very well for the tough- mindedness of the believers. But it does indicate, if a demonstration was needed, that near the core of the religious experience is something remarkably resistant to rational inquiry. [Carl Sagan, Broca's Brain]

Wonder if Mahmoud is a closeted homosexual. It seems here in the U.S. that those most vocal about how horrified they are by gays "doth protest too much".
