  13 quotes ephesians 4:8 as saying, "the bible refers to them as 'gifts in men.

  however, the org's own kingdom interlinear translation (and every other bible translation) gives a truthful translation of the verse: .

  I was just thinking, maybe all this new fluff about the elders being "all that and a bag of chips" plays into the GB saying they are "not inspired". Meaning the GB is not responsible for any of the bad stuff the org is being sued over?

  New Resolution?

  had our midweek meeting last night.

  they had a resolution to send an extra (i wanna say $1100 but i only remember it was at least $1000) per month to forward the kingdom preaching work etc.. you know how they work in the kh...no one votes against anything.

  i abstained as i almost have always done.

  I had a chat with a MS friend of mine about it. Was interesting.

  First of all I need to correct the amount. It was $500 NOT the larger amount i said at the start. Not sure where i got that. Sorry for the misinformation.
  

  Anyway, this MS friend said (he would know as he did the finances for our hall for a while) the branch comes of with an arbitrary amount based on the number of publishers. This includes children who are publishers...meaning no income at all. He is rather disgruntled about the whole thing and said he was going to vote against it but was indisposed at the moment.

  I said "why would you bother? it's a done deal the minute a motion is put forth".

  He said "it's a principle he feels strongly about". He said, "they should base their expected donation on working adults and not pensioners and kids".

  Seriously, I've been taken to task in the past for suggesting a Mason connection with the JWs.

  Some people got really nasty about it too. Which I've never understood.

  My JW wife and I are going to a dinner party this (Thursday) evening at some JW friends.

  She is cooking up a feast of turkey and ham, and like most JW families we will surely have a prayer of thanksgiving before the meal.

  When we were invited I thought HUH? And I was like OKAY!

  I am curious to see if there will be any fallout from this.

  No..Not even close..

  JW`s think they are the "ONLY CHRISTIANS".....Period..

  True they DO say that Outlaw. On the one hand they claim to be Christian BUT they also downplay Christ it seems to me.
  

  1 John 2:22 says...22 Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ?+ This is the antichrist,+ the one who denies the Father and the Son. (NWT)

  Now they obviously don't out and out deny, but they are putting Jesus, as someone said earlier in this thread, "in the corner".

That explains why the Watch Tower often focused on Jesus. For example, in its first year of publication, the magazine mentioned the name Jesus ten times more than the name Jehovah. Regarding the Bible Students’ early years, The Watchtower of March 15, 1976, noted that they gave “overbalanced importance” to Jesus. In time, though, Jehovah helped them to discern the prominence that the Bible gives to God’s personal name. How did that affect the Bible Students? Especially from 1919 onward, says the same Watchtower article, “they began showing more appreciation for Messiah’s heavenly Father, Jehovah.” In fact, during the decade following 1919, The Watch Tower mentioned God’s name over 6,500 times!

  10 By giving the name Jehovah proper recognition, our brothers showed their love for God’s name. Like Moses of old, they set out to “declare the name of Jehovah.” (Deut. 32:3; Ps. 34:3) In turn, as promised in the Scriptures, Jehovah took note of their love for his name and showed them favor.—Ps. 119:132; Heb. 6:10.

  Even though I was a witness for years I thought "the ransom arrangement" WAS the Bible’s main teaching. I guess I was a lousy student.
  

  To downplay his sacrifice and ransom is kinda like denying Jesus IMHO.

  You know how they work in the KH...no one votes against anything. I abstained as I almost have ALWAYS done. I find the thing a farce.

  Anyway, after the resolution went forth the brother explained this was just an adjustment to the resolution from last year and the increase suggested by the branch.

  WTF? Do they now tell the local halls how much they are expected to contribute? What happens if that amount is not sent one month, are they then in the red?

  Anybody else know about this?
