True that!

"what will go when god's kingdom comes?
" from april w/tower.
we start with a picture of jesus riding a white horse into battle, galloping towards terrified people in darkness.

i was reading in jude last night in the esv bible.. i came across this little gem as i was falling asleep and woke right up.. jude 1:5.
5 now i want to remind you, although you once fully knew it, that jesus, who saved a people out of the land of egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe.
jesus who saved a people out of egypt?
Finally Left
I am trying to relearn the Bible. I do not read the NWT - that is for sure.
Same here. I am not ready to go the whole atheist route like so many on here.
I still consider myself a Christian and am trying to re-imagine what that means and learn as much as possible

I've though about doing this before. It is REALLY easy to do :-)

I was reading in Jude last night in the ESV bible.
I came across this little gem as I was falling asleep and woke right up.
Jude 1:5
5 Now I want to remind you, although you once fully knew it, that Jesus, who saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe.
Jesus who saved a people out of Egypt? I had never seen that before.
So I looked it up in other translations and they all say "Lord" instead of "Jesus".
The NWT says "Jehovah" instead of Jesus.
5 Although you are fully aware of all of this, I want to remind you that Jehovah, having saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those not showing faith.
I wanted to understand why the ESV used Christ in that verse.
So on further investigation on the the ESV website I found some interesting cross reference scriptures...
1 Corinthians 10:4-5
4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ. 5 Nevertheless, with most of them God was not pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
Okay. Christ was the spiritual rock. Got it.
But wait! The NWT says it "meant" the Christ...
4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they used to drink from the spiritual rock that followed them, and that rock meant the Christ.
That's not quite the same thing is it?
The other scripture the ESV uses to back up their use of Christ in this verse in Jude is 1 Cor. 10:9
9 We must not put Christ to the test, as some of them did and were destroyed by serpents,
Of course every JW worth his salt is familiar with the NWT wording of that verse...
Neither let us put Jehovah* to the test, as some of them put him to the test, only to perish by the serpents
Most other translations I've looked at use Christ in the place where NWT uses Jehovah. Some use Lord but they are in the minority.
This is a HUGE deal to me. The meaning of These scriptures is COMPLETELY changed by the insertion of Jehovah in these scriptures.
I realize most here aren't interested in bible research but I though I'd share anyway.
i was trying to find something recent that i can show "still ins" in my sphere but it is proving harder than anticipated.. most of what i am seeing is couched in confusing goblygook wt style prattle.. my wife argues that it's not even true and i think that's the case with most jaydubs.. so i guess if it is a teaching that is being allowed to fade, maybe it's not worth pursuing?.
any of you scholars out there got anything recent clear and handy?.
Wow.
I am confused.
I guess Jah wanted it really complicated to keep out the uneducated schmucks such as myself.
I mean, seriously, none of this makes any sense to me.
I guess that's why the rank and file JW doesn't even know it's part of the dogma of their beloved Org.
Those silly churches of Christendom. They just believe in Jesus.
Jesus this and Jesus that.
Jesus Jesus Jesus!
Jesus and his grace in forgiving their sins and trying to be better people because of it. They even believe that Jesus died for all of us. (GASP)
Won't they be surprised when God smites them?

Thanks for the info darkspilver.
I thought there was something at one point that said the Greek scriptures were mainly directed to the anointed or something to that effect?
Maybe it was a long time ago?
In all honesty, even your concise summary of JW doctrine in this is confusing to me.
I think Carol1111 has it close except as darkspilver said
The JW teaching, as per above chart/link shows the old law covenant, mediated by Moses, was between Jehovah and natural Israel ONLY.
So that means the rest of the "great crowd" are not under any covenant as of yet no? We are like the gentiles in pre-christian times?

nothing big here, just a couple small observations:.
on this month's program at about the 43 minute mark, after bragging about giving a little medical help to jws in africa, they make them 'pay' for their services by offering onscreen testimonials thanking the organization.
one of them is an elderly man who i think got hearing aids or something (i forget) and said that now he can hear the meetings better.
I watched it last nigh with my still in wife.
No buffering on my system. We use Roku.
I noticed the thing about the beards too. There was also mention about making sacrifices to the organization. Not to Jehovah but to the O! I thought that was really weird.
Also, was Jesus even mentioned during this broadcast? Cuz, looking back I can't remember it.
How can you be a Christian and NOT mention Christ? It seems like they are really trying to go out of their way to distance themselves from our savior.
if you are, you know it is not easy to remain intimate with someone who thinks you are basically "walking dead".. any thoughts or tips to share with the board?.
what has been the greatest issue for your marriage?.
need to vent?.
From everyone's comments I can see that I am not the only one that has had a bumpy ride in the marriage department.
It looks like most here that have commented have decided that religion and spirituality are rubbish so I guess my situation is a bit different there.
I consider myself a Christian and after becoming inactive realized that Jesus IS the thing. He is who we are supposed to "witness" for. HIS is the name above all others.
I go to most meetings with my wife for the sake of peace but it does get hard when I see things that are quite offensive to someone who loves Jesus and it is difficult not to make comments.
I watch sermons online and read different translations of the bible. I keep it secret like I am watching porn or something. LOL
My wife knows I don't believe everything the org spouts out but has such a superficial view of spirituality that going with her to meetings seems to be good enough. At least for her. She leaves it up to Jah to judge me most of the time. Especially since I have been trying to put on the new personality of a Christian and not the one encouraged by the publishing company organization.
I think she actually likes me more now that I am not all high on my male superior attitude that the Dubs encourage. I have been a complete arse in the years passed and though I still have my moments, I do believe the holy spirit is making his changes in me. At least I hope so.
She has asked me to pray with her more so I have been doing that but it sometimes feels awkward because my prayers are so different than those generally made by a JayDub.
One of these days maybe I'll grow the cojones to make a firm stand. Until then, I try to love her as Christ loved the congregation and forgive her as best I can when she says something cultish and cruel. And prey...oh how I pray that she will discover Jesus Christ out Lord Savior AND God.
just got done clicking streets signs, store fronts, vehicles, mountains, and roads capcha squares.
and yes, i clicked what was requested.
each time i login i get one or two more capcha challenges added to the number.. isn't there a better way to login?.
Yeah kind of a pain for those of us trying to keep our online activities secret so we can't remain signed in.
