I read somewhere that he has a form of touretts syndrome.
Totally unconfirmed though.
My wife, a faithful Dub loves him. I find him annoying as hell.
i've been watching quite a bit of gb member stephen lett on youtube recently (no, i'm not thinking of going back to the jws).. i just find him compulsive viewing, like when people slow down to see a car crash.
i find his facial expressions and intonation spell-binding.. it reminds me a bit of john carpenter's the thing, a film where an alien life-form infects a host and imitates it, spreading throughout camps of remote workers in the antarctic.
if i were a bethelite living in close proximity to lett, i'd be thinking about giving him the blood test to see if he was normal, lol.. why does lett speak in public the way he does?

jws re-name things so they seem like they are different than other religions.
(of course we know they are different but that's another story).
i was just thinking about those things where they are like most everyone else in christendom but the re-name it to seem different.. for example god forbid they have a church, it's a "kingdom hall".. they don't have pastors and deacons they have "elders" and "ministerial servants".. they don't have tithing but they will have family heads fill out a paper saying how much they can contribute on a monthly basis (not sure if there is a name for that...unless it's tithing.
Jehovah's Witnesses differ just for the sake of being different. Once I was out of the religion and analyzed and compared I realized it's all so stupid and childish.
So true LongHair!
even thinking about born-ins here.
at what stage of your 'bible teaching' were you taught about the practice of disfellowshipping?.
reading john cedars book and the section about when the more crazy shit gets introduced to you is very telling.
If you look at the library online and do a search for "disfellowship", you'll see that it doesn't show up in any of the books that are typically studied with interested ones.
It looks like the word is used mainly in Watchtower articles.
I did find this interesting though. If you filter the results to just the bible it brings up "footnote words indexed". It shows three scriptures...
John 9:22 His parents said these things because they were in fear+ of the Jews, for the Jews had already come to an agreement that, if anyone confessed him as Christ, he should get expelled from the synagogue.
John 12:42 All the same, many even of the rulers actually put faith in him,+ but because of the Pharisees they would not confess [him], in order not to be expelled from the synagogue
John 16:2 Men will expel YOU from the synagogue. In fact, the hour is coming when everyone that kills YOU will imagine he has rendered a sacred service* to God.

That microwave thing is a new one to me. Almost fell out of my chair laughing at that one. "radiation hazards" LOL
I guess it's what can you expect from a group of people that discourage higher education. Simple science escapes them.

They don't have sermons they have "talks".
They don't have a pope who is appointed to represent Jesus interests on Earth but they have a group that fills that role called the "governing body"
Are they a religion? For years back in the day I recall they said they weren't a religion
Any others?
so today's study article uses 1cor 3:17 as it's theme text.. i looked it over and if you read from 14 an interesting thing happens.... 14 but their minds were dulled.+ for to this present day, the same veil remains unlifted when the old covenant is read,+ because it is taken away only by means of christ.+ 15 in fact, to this day whenever moses is read,+ a veil lies upon their hearts.+ 16 but when one turns to jehovah,* the veil is taken away.+ 17 now jehovah* is the spirit,+ and where the spirit of jehovah* is, there is freedom.+ .
so my question is, is it by "means of christ" or by "turning to jehovah" that the veil is taken away?.
in any other translation i've looked at, the use of the word lord is employed leading one to assume that it's turning to the christ that takes the veil away..

the watchtower library is a great tool to learn more about the watchtower itself.
for example, answering the question "does the word "organization" ever appear in the bible"?
is easy to answer using it.

How about this one about the father and the other one about Jesus
IS 44; 6 This is what Jehovah says,
The King of Israel+ and his Repurchaser,+ Jehovah of armies:‘I am the first and I am the last.+There is no God but me.+
And Rev 1;1717 When I saw him, I fell as dead at his feet.
And he laid his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the First+ and the Last,+ 18 and the living one,+ and I became dead,+ but look! I am living forever and ever,+ and I have the keys of death and of the Grave.*+
Those are BRILLIANT!
does forcing people to shun other people violate free will?
I think it is still free will on a most basic level.
Everything we do has consequences.
If we chose to leave or stay the choice is ours, the consequences of our actions change.
I think the issue is that the JWs brainwash it's adherents to "choose" what they are told to.
I think it's ironic that this article could mean different things to different people and may lead to some "choosing" to question doctrine. On the surface they've been given permission in a sense.
I plan to quote from it profusely next time my very in JW wife questions me :-)
