I wish I was that bold and fearless. About anything, about everything. Everytime I say anything that is true(unpopular), it is deliberately misunderstood and I am shunned, ejected, removed and silenced. She has talent in being able to say what is true, and saying it in a way that others HEAR and UNDERSTAND her message. Good for Apostate Chick.

Uber Cart Witnessing at the State Fair
by truth_b_known inlast thursday i bunch of us working decided we were going to head down to the state fair and badge our way in to get a fletcher's corny dog for lunch.
we had to go to a specific gate to park and show our credentials to get in.
this meant driving halfway around the perimeter of the entire fairgrounds.

Happy family life? They stand around drinking coffee with the buddies. They shun, manipulate, and abuse. Happy family life??

Classic situation at Circuit Assembly Day
by freddo inso i've just skived off to the car park half way through our assembly day - what a classic morning.. i'm sat right behind an early-teen kid with some sort of special needs (autistic?
) who's sat with what looks like his late-30's harassed single parent mother.
(or married to an unbelieving mate?

A lot of people with special needs are not lacking in intelligence at all, but do have a different filtering system and ways of interacting with their surroundings. I think the condescension can add an extra layer of difficulty because both parties can become angry and frustrated. I think the young man was being real when most of us are faking assent with our passive silence.

Normal things you missed out on as a kid (besides holidays)
by Are you serious insince me and my siblings had to go to service every saturday, and i mean every saturday, i missed out on something so normal as watching good ole saturday morning cartoons from the 70's and 80's.
i remember wishing i could stay home just one saturday so i could watch cartoons.
but noooo we had to go save lives!

Taking home my art masterpieces that my mom would have rejected. My school bus driver ,(the recipient) probably talked about the nasty watchtower church for years. A kid afraid to give a school project to their own mom? That's just wrong.

It's about progress, not perfection...
by scratchme1010 ini guess at this point in time and space i'm ok if there's an indication of things going in the right direction.. my jw father, who joined the jws in 1973 when i was 8, has always had all the characteristics of the stereotypical brainwashed born again weirdo.
as a jw he always felt the need to show that he was more devoted than the rest of the crop.
to him, life became very easy from that point on: "the bible", interpreted by the millions of wt publications, along with the information in the meetings and getting involved in all jw activities, were the answer to everything and anything in his life".

Bank and ATM's..
by zeb ini went to the atm to get out my housekeeping and budgeting money.
($650) this covers large bills and everyday shopping for food etc.. made the withdrawal and as i fumbled my wallet the atm took the money back.
a bank staff member was present helping another customer with the other atm and saw this.

I WISH it would happen at the self checkout lines. I always forget there and I never had anyone return it. Twice losing money convinced me not to use them. The atm took my card and credit union issued me a new one immediately.

Shunning: Extreme apathy!
by StephaneLaliberte ini thought i'd share this one with the group.
many years ago, my mom was disfellowshipped.
then, my sister passed away in a car accident, she was fairly young, as she was in her early 20s.

Stephane, I'm sorry for everything in that experience. It's seems nightmarish. I'm glad you aren't putting up with that deal anymore. The people that truly love is don't make tragedies harder for us.

Dietary Quirks Among JWs
by millie210 ini recently had to accompany an older family member out of state to a family reunion.
it was a big reunion and not much was overtly made of the fact that i am "misguided" and not attending meetings (lost soul that i am) which was nice.
the thing i noticed that i was most struck by was all the dietary quirks in evidence during our 3 days together.

I think that the JW population is just going along with the trend of the world. It's crazy all over from what I see. Then again, we often have just enough information about all these food issues to be obnoxious/ignorant. It's not the worst thing to be aware of dietary issues. Some of us should be more aware, or put what we know into practice. If certain foods don't make me feel good, I avoid/limit them. I'm not religious about it, nor do I bother folks with my quirks, unless they make it an issue.
My jws are not into the food fads. Still drink too much, eat meat, gluten, white food, etc.
