  My JW Elder Brother Passed Away

  he was basically a good man, just a believer in the religion.

  when we were both elders we were best of friends and then things deteriorated when i was not an elder for a while.

  then after becoming an elder again, i slowly drifted away from the religion and he drifted further away from me.

  There is No Way Out For Me

  i have come to the conclusion that there is no way for me to ever leave.

  although i have some friends at work, my whole social structure are witnesses.

  even if i move congregations, my parents have contacts everywhere who will tell them if i’m not active.

  At the Hall you can get a feel for who’s into it and who just taking up space. Watch them and learn how they manage it.

  get an education and get a career that has you living overseas or traveling a lot if that suits you. You seem young. You can build your life the way that suits you rather than you parents or the org.

  When pressed, for now, you don’t have to pretend to be into it. Reluctantly acquiescing isn’t defiance but it also can’t get you df’d. It will let your folks know you won’t be applying to bethel or pioneering.

  maga hat...make america great again .

  guy wears it in nyc bar and gets thrown out.

  manhattan court throws out the case citing that since its not religious discrimination, it’s the bar’s right.. what so you think about this?

  If I owned a bar, where people get stupid and drunk, id avoid obvious hot button issues especially in NYC.

  Bars are filled with provocative behaviors and I guess bar owners choose their battles

  I don’t think politics are religious in nature though religion is politicized.

  i'd like your opinions on constructing an email reply to this shocker below.

  bit of background about the sender: she is a middle-aged, cheery uberdub whose siblings left when a schism occured in her congregation in canada way back when.

  The letter is offensive and as much fun as it would be to cut her down with a sharp and witty response, it will be wasted on her.

  Silence wont be! Silence makes the sender wonder why. She might re-read her own words on a different day that has her cult mindset off (a new light, legal involvement locally, a scandal or hall closure) and think about it. Any of those sharp, witty responses though will be promptly deleted and off her radar forever.

  i therefore vote for silence.

  JWs studying with a neighbor: what should I do?

  so let me introduce myself first: i've lurked here for years because i'm working on a long-term research project concerning jehovah's witnesses and i've collected data from this site (seriously, you guys are awesome, i've learned so much from this forum i never would have learned otherwise).

  i've also collected data at multiple kingdom halls and read scholarly works on jehovah's witnesses and non-scholarly works as well (e.g., crisis of conscience).

  so i have a pretty good sense of jehovah's witnesses even though i was not raised in this faith nor did i ever join up.

  The OP got great advice and took it!

  One thing the OP might do generally when asked what they do it are passionate about or whatever is mention this years long educational quest and with no pressure make himself available to educate others. He has a wonderful, bias free perspective with no apostasy claims to be made and no agenda other than facts and education. We know it from inside out, but he has an outsiders perspective which may lend him credibility with certain people.

  My husband was sued civilly about 15 years ago. The lawsuit accused him of dishonesty in his business dealings. He had full coverage insurance for both the business and personal legal coverage. He fought it in court for 6+ years because his good name mattered. The complainant wanted a settlement. Years later it finally went before a judge and was quickly dismissed because it was clearly a nuisance suit. Point is if a small business person can afford to fight for their good name against a major property owner and developer, then a billion dollar company should be able to defend themselves if actually innocent.

  in perth western australia the watchtower have sold a kingom hall to hindus for $2 million aust dollars and they have a second one up for sale in the same area embleton .

  there are over 8 million jdubs and i would venture a guess that at least 20% to 30% are pimo.

  in my opinion, the kingdom hauls are only half full for two reasons....many have left but the majority are pimo and any little excuse will keep them home and they will report their token ghost hours in service.

  all it takes to stay home is being tired, too much school homework or i will go next week, no doubt many have taken part-time jobs and the fear of working the second shift and the guilt of missing meetings is gone.

  The WT off will just keep on doing what they do. Any changes they make are incremental enough to not gather attention from most JWs. Sure, we see the insidious nature of things, but they have no self interest to instigate a mass purge or exodus.They just keep turning up the heat under their lote of frogs. . . Slowly. I

  The ones running the show know that JWs are desperate for crumbs of hope that they are right, so they manipulate them constantly.

  They don't care if anyone or everyone leaves. They have billions. The membership is their beard for whatever else is going on financially.

  Nephew’s JW Fiancée Begins Conversion to Judaism Due to Passover Date

  it’s been a while since i posted, but for those who remember, i came on here to get some information about jehovah’s witnesses because i have a nephew who was getting engaged to a girl who was a jehovah’s witness and, along with some other sites, i was recommended this one.. since then we’ve been busy with passover and jehovah’s witnesses have had something they call the memorial of christ’s death (i believe i have that right).

  this clashing of the two observances apparently did more for this girl than anything else i ever saw in our months of conversations with her.. respectfully, jews do not proselytize.

  these are people who, of their own desire, “join the tribe” after some years of study and practice--something this girl has just begun to do.

  I think that Afrikaans bemoaning the lack of spiritual interest in Jews that still celebrate their jewishness rather missed the point of rabbi midges posts. That or more likely be simply disagreed with their right to the culture unless they are bearded with tassels and praying daily at the western wall. That is part of our fundamentalist Christian indoctrination.

  JWs would hate to be categorized as fundamentalist.
