Wasn't it the November tv show that they said prophecy is only decernable after the event has happened?

Interperatation of Revelation 13 due for an update?
by pale.emperor inregarding the watchtower interpretation of revelation 13 https://www.jw.org/en/publications/magazines/g201105/seventh-world-power-bible-history/ - identifying the usa and britain as part of the legs of iron from daniels vision... i think they're gonna have to update this one in the next decade.. trump seems to be the last person who'd work closely with a female prime minister for one, secondly, us brits aint so powerful as we once was.
trump appears to be pretty ok with dealing with russia and for all we know could become an ally with them.. your thoughts?.
now that i read the watchtower interpretation of revelation without my jw spectacles on, it's laughable that they come to these conclusions..

I'd love to see Revelation chapter 20 reviewed, but then again they can't cause it would destroy too many of their teachings regarding the second resurrection, the books or scrolls that are opened and the timing of such.

Entertainment: What's everybody reading or into right now?
by schnell ini picked up bernard cornwell's the pagan lord at the library.
historical fiction set in england after the death of alfred the great.
i'm loving it, especially the between-the-lines wit and sense of timing in cornwell's writing, and the complete badassery of the protagonist.

@schnell Diablo 3 is insane fun if you like a Warcrafty type game. It's cheap with real replay value.

iZombie and The Walking Dead on Netflix. Both good shows. Just downloaded the ES5: Skyrim reboot and that has been good so far. Looking forward to the Diablo 3 patch with the resurrected New Tristam storyline from D1 and the necromancer class.

Taking the Step
by beardfreedom infirst time posting after years of reading, the things i have learned here have gradually helped to open my eyes to the reality of this religion.
though i have been mentally out for some time, lately i have stopped going to meetings and service.
the elders are calling and i have been ignoring them, i am trying to get up the courage to finally break free and never go back.

Rip the bandaid and go. It's the best decision the wife and I made. Yea we lost family and yes we lost (conditional) friends but you will make more. Further you will see that the people of "the world" will take you in and show you a love that the J-dumbs never could or did.
As the Nike ad goes, "Just Do It!!"

So just an off comment observation.
I see no factories in this paradise photo and once again, all the guys are perfectly clean shaven. So will BIC still be in business in the new world or what? Having to shave forever would really suck.

If you read the bible w/out instruction, what would you think?
by TTWSYF inanyone reading [or did read] the bible without someone else telling you what it meant?.
would you be leaning towards the jws or baptists or lutherans or what?.

Atheism or humanism.
Atheist: because you'll see quite quickly that the Bible isn't scientifically nor historically accurate so if God wrote the Bible why did he get so many things wrong?
Humanist: because you see all the hell God does to humans and you strive to never be like that.

Question: Can't You Just Ignore A Judicial Committee?
by Sorry inone thing i've never understood is judicial committees.
yes, i understand it's held to see if elders should go through with the disfellowshipping process.
but why give them all the power?
-

Just quote the 2017 February Watchtower page 26 paragraph 12. The GB have given up all power saying that they are not divinely inspired. I told the elders that since the GB are not divinely inspired, that means that the elders were not of divine appointment and therefore are just self-appointed powerless men.
Just tell them that if they keep harassing you that they will have to deal with your attorney.
They haven't called or written since and we were not disfellowshipped.

Shunning & separation from family
by CJxfarmx ini was raised in jw as a child.
my dad was a jw my mom was not, they are divorced now.

Some of the shunning could be based off fear that you will try to "unwitness" to them. My family and friends are shunning us also so I am very sorry for what you are going through. Perhaps by letting him know you will not separate him from his faith he will feel safer to be around you.
Its a fear inducing cult after all. They are afraid of their own shadow.

Did anyone else go to this weeks midweek meeting?
by NikL inin the congregation bible study, the book addressed how "truth" is progressive.... 18 just as jehovah progressively revealed truths about the kingdom in the period leading up to 1914, he continues to do so during the time of the end.
as chapters 4 and 5 of this book will show, over the past 100 years, god’s people have had to adjust their understanding on a number of occasions.
does that fact mean that they do not have jehovah’s backing?

How does this crazy study build faith? It would seem to do the exact opposite. I personally think the GB are testing the sheep to see who will be loyal no matter what is said. They are working out any who would question the GB's authority.
And as usual, the book study proves to be a disastrous waste of time.
