Do You Think Jehovah's Witnesses Are Typically Ignorant People?
by minimus ini think most witnesses are simple minded.many are ignorant.
there are a lot of basically "good people "in the religion but i believe many are kind of dumb, including many elders.
do you agree with my thoughts??

I honestly feel that if you go to a meeting and listen to all the contradictory beliefs, the crazy illustrations that fall apart when looked at closer, new light, new songs, listen to people saying that God is going to stop all violence by killing almost everyone on the earth, hearing the one generation is actually two that overlap teaching, you come away a little bit dumber. I felt that way. I often wonder if that is the plan. -

Atheism is likely as old as Religious thinking - thinkers often doubted the existence of supernatural beings.
by fulltimestudent ini've only just discovered an important book on the topic of atheism was published in 2015. it's title is, "battling the gods: atheism in the world.
" by tim whitmarsh, professor of greek culture at the uk's university of cambridge.. whitmarsh reviews a 1000 years of greek/roman writings and can demonstrate that the surviving writings of many famous ancient authors discussed disbelief in the god(s).that alone casts doubts on the concept many 'believers' today promote, that a belief in divinities is hard wired into the brain.
and, just as clearly, atheism is not just a modern view.. whitmarsh argues, " that early societies were far more capable than many since of containing atheism within the spectrum of what they considered normal.

I am reading a book on physics by Carlo Rovelli and it has some interesting information about early Greek thinkers, but the bit that struck me was that most of their original writings are gone, often only references to what they wrote remain. The reason was the "Christians" destroyed all the books that they did not agree with.

Why the vitriolic hate?
by stuckinarut2 ini am sure we have all thought of this before, but it struck me again today:.
why does the society promote such vitriolic hate toward, and about those who have left "the truth" ?.
surely it is obvious that such critical attitudes towards ones like us who have left, only serves to proove that they do not have "the truth"?.

I think SummerAngel has a point the whole thing is not just about punishing those who show dissent but also warning anybody who is thinking about doing the same.

Beautiful new kingdom song
by slimboyfat inhas anyone noticed this new song?
i think it's absolutely beautiful.
it's got a film score quality about it, with depth and feeling.

What I find rather strange is that the chapter of the bible the song is supposed to be based on uses the name Jesus loads of times, but out of the 151 songs in the new song book guess how many have the name Jesus in the title?
None, not a single one! (Unless my eyesight is going)

JWs biggest problem is not doctrinal issues
by Chook init's biggest problems are associated with its lack of genuine love and concern for the rank& file.
the average person doesn't need a food critic to tell them their hamburger is shit, in the same manner the average person can discern kindness and love.
gbs fake love and concern is evident in the way head office deals with victims of sexual abuse by jw clergy.

Phoebe what you say is so true, and no matter what they say otherwise there are lots of people who are not JW's who do care, far more than them. They aren't clothed with love, it is the thinnest veneer, that in a moment disappears to reveal something not so nice beneath.

The most successful teaching of Jehovah's Witnesses and an amazing new book on the divine name
by slimboyfat injehovah's witnesses have had to revise their chronology and various doctrinal interpretations due to events and scholarly corrections.
but the one teaching where they have been consistently ahead of the curve is the importance of jehovah's name.. .
i'm going to run through a (necessarily selective) timeline of jw events and scholarly publications that demonstrate the phenomenal success of this teaching in the last days.

Isn't atheism being a theology an oxymoron?

JWs shunning other active JWs
by Roger Kirkpatrick inhow many others have noticed how common it is for active jws to ostracize and shun other active jws?
as far back as i can recall, jws have had an ongoing problem with cliques within congregations, and special needs talks would be given from time to time to address that trend.
but, it seems to me that the practice has become even more pronounced with entire congregations actively shunning other congregations.

What everybody says is just so true. It is strange that on the rare occasions somebody is nice it is often one of the "weaker ones". They just have everything the wrong way round, but of course you can not put time spent helping an older sister on your report card, which is the only measure of how "spiritual" you are. If that is true Christianity I am a banana.

Its is really amazing what God can achieve when using Amazon web services, with some help from Inktomi for local caching. Now what was that talk about all the worlds commercial system being in the power of Satan. (Try a SmartWhois look up)

One person answered at the watchtower and managed to say Jehovah six times but the next person was far more spiritual because they used the name seven times in their answer. The pair of them never visit or even ask after my sick relative who has been years in the "Truth", but hey the name is the most important thing right?

Jehovah's people are not happy people
by Phoebe ini finally stopped attending the meetings about 4 months go.
i won't be going back - ever.. but i've decided the best reply to the watchtower is to be happy and i do try to be happy every day even thought i wasted my entire life on this religion.
i cherish every day, practice mindfulness and do my best to be content with the life i have.. it is only now that i see that most jws i know are deeply unhappy people.

From personal experience I have so often heard people at the kingdom hall say quite unpleasant things to their fellow "brothers and sister". Every meeting seems to have an item about putting up with hurtful remarks from others. I think one reason they are so mean spirited is in part due to their own unhappiness. Seeing other people happy, especially if they think they are not spiritual enough seem to eat away at them.
