2034 is going to be a huge letdown for the dubs
by wha happened? ini've seen a few postings of a possible "next date" for dubs of 2034. based on an article they published comparing the last days to the days of noah.
preaching for 120 years.
however, i noticed a little tidbit from wiki about age:.

Wouldn't the date technically be 2039 since the major preaching work didn't start until 1919? -

JW.ORG advertising on game/app review program.
by WHATSGOINGON ini don't know if any of you have seen the video posted by mike and kim regarding jw.org advertising on a thailand computer game review television show.
its interesting - check it out.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57nigmnim18.
the show is called game show social - i looked at a few of the videos and jw.org is on a lot of them.. at first i thought that it was a review of a jw.org app but when you look at other videos jw.org is on a lot of them as a sponsor as well as dell lg and others.. wgo..

I think Finkelstein hit the nail on the head.
It could also be the Thai branch going off script.

Devouring the Forbidden Fruit - Higher Education
by cappytan inwell, i told my wife over the weekend i was going to go back school to finish my degree.
she is 100% supportive of it!
apparently she doesn't think higher education is so evil either.. since my former major was computer programming and that was in the late 1990's, i was told i'd have to retake a bunch of classes since times have changed.

Question?
Did the recent jw tv anti education broadcasts cement the deal for you to go back to college?I had been considering it for a time, but to answer your question, yes it cemented the deal. I saw that crap and thought, "Screw this, I'm going back."

cappy..i'd make sure you can get a job after the degree.. I wonder what you will be able to do with a BS in biology.. around here theres a ton of pharmaceuticals so it would be good.. but i wonder what its like where you are..
computer science will get you a job anywhere.I currently have a job in the Computer Science field without the degree. My experience in the field is extensive, so I pretty much get any job I apply for. Recruiters are always calling me to see if I'm interested in other positions.
The only real reason I took classes on this subject was because JW's convinced me that it would be easier to support myself pioneering as a programmer / designer. I soon found out that there weren't many decent part-time programming positions out there.
Also, Computer Science will get you a job in any major city, however the jobs in the rural areas (which I prefer) are scarce.
Unfortunately, I don't truly enjoy this field of work. I find joy in getting things done and accomplishments, but I don't really like what I do.
My ultimate purpose in going back to school isn't really to further my career, but to study something that I love.

Do you know what type of career you want to go into once you get the degree(s)?
I'm not sure, but I can definitely teach until I figure it out. Teachers in my area make about the same as what I'm making right now. Science teachers are always in high demand - I could probably get a job as a Science teacher anywhere in the Country.
I would love to pursue a masters and, if I had the drive, a doctorate in Physics at a later date. But for now, I'll eat the elephant one bite at a time.
Career-wise, I don't really care. I'm fascinated by the subject of all Sciences and the thought of studying them academically appeals to me.

How many of you still believe in God or are still Christians?
by JWCartPusher inhello, i asked a new but old friend how many people are still christians after leaving the watchtower's mind control agency, for statistical purposes do you mind if i do a survey and see how many of you are believers?.
please don't post if your not a believer out of respect for this poll, we need to sharpen each other's sword and help build each other up and meet new friends over the internet with faith in god or some other force of the universe.
i asked another person how we can still manage our faith after getting burned by the high group mind control, he had a few ideas but he's not really involved with god because of how life burned him.

Don't be afraid of Dawkins either.
Start with Dawkins' first book - The Selfish Gene.
I've been devouring that little by little for a few weeks now, and it's excellent. It's all about genetics and evolution and doesn't (yet) comment on God much at all one way or the other.

Nethanyahu speach to US Congress - not in sync with NRA position on weapons
by RubaDub ini don't quite understand why mr. nethanyahu is so fearful if iran or other nations have nuclear weapons.
as the nra espouses, the more people are armed and the more weapons on the street, then the safer we should feel.
we all should have the right to protect ourselves.

Israel has nuclear weapons but hasn't used them on Iran and isn't planning to. If Iran or an Arab country acquired nuclear weapons, would they use them on Israel?
Pakistan has had Nuclear weapons for quite a while now. I think it's safe to say, a lot of people in Pakistan hate Zionists. Pakistan hasn't used them.
I'm not saying Iran wouldn't use them either, but I'm just giving an example of a predominantly Arab country that has nuclear weapons but hasn't used them.

Well, I told my wife over the weekend I was going to go back school to finish my degree. She is 100% supportive of it! Apparently she doesn't think Higher Education is so evil either.
Since my former major was computer programming and that was in the late 1990's, I was told I'd have to retake a bunch of classes since times have changed.
Since that's the case, I've decided to go to school for what I wanted to in the beginning. Science.
I will be starting to pursue my B.S. in Biology this summer semester. It will take me quite a while to finish since I have to work full time, but it's a start. Once I'm done with Biology, I would only have to take a handful of other classes to be awarded degrees in Physics and Chemistry as well.
Unfortunately, since I work for a local government organization, there are no tuition reimbursement programs I can take advantage of. I may have to get some loans or try for some small scholarships, but since I'm anticipating to be taking no more than 8 credit hours per semester, I can probably afford it out of pocket a little at a time.

I believe in "I don't knows."
There's still a part of me that wants to believe in God - likely because it's so ingrained in my upbringing and psyche as a JW.
But the rational part of me is letting go. And at first, it was scary, upsetting and confusing. But now, the more I let go, the more a certain peace settles over my thoughts. Not believing is turning out more satisfying and peaceful than believing.
I had to come to terms with the fact that it's okay to not know. It's okay to not have the answers for every question.
