Whether I believe the blood doctrine or not, I'm never donating blood.
I have a severe phobia of needles. Like really bad. I passed out the last time I had a test.

Relief Efforts for Typhoon in Manila (Philippines)
by StephaneLaliberte ini find articles like this (click very frustrating to read.
when i read reports on how charity was delivered, i am expecting to read numbers that will give me an idea of how money was used for such relief.
unfortunately, the information provided is simply not enough to provide any ball park idea of what was actually spent.

I can confirm StarTrekAngel's assessment.
I was in the same area at the time, and our congregation received the same letter.
Later, where I currently live, the same letter came during Katrina and then later, Ike.

Mom says, "CO says there's only 15 years left!"
by Separation of Powers ini don't typically hear from my mom often, but i tell you, over the past couple of weeks, i have heard from her several times.
you heard the comment about "our way of worship will be altered" and thank you for your posts by the way....but yesterday, she calls and is asking about the kids and then, in typical jw fashion mind you, says:.
"you know, you should really get back to meetings.

I tried calling the Pope. Didn't get through. I guess Catholics are a cult now. :P
I kid! I kid!
I will say, though, that as a Bethelite, though you'd probably have an issue getting a call through to a GB member at work, you would be able to ring their room.
My roommate and I wondered if we could, so we concocted a scheme to see if the number listed in the Bethel Family Phone Book would really ring through to the GB members. So we decided to invite Sydlik over for dinner. He answered the phone! And he accepted our invitation! It was quite a surprise.

It goes to show the the effects of this cult. I know lots of alcoholics that are still in.
I might be an alcoholic. I don't know.
One thing I do know is that I'm definitely abusing it from time to time.
I actually drank a helluva lot more before I woke up to TTATT. I was drinking from Noon til bedtime. I'd drink at work, even.
Now, I just drink a lot on meeting days. I really only drink drink two days a week.
I will have a beer or two with dinner, occasionally, though, but never get a buzz unless it's meeting day.

Why not just stay home instead? you are going to quit anyway right?
I want to fade. It would be too obvious right now, though, if I suddenly stopped attending or started shirking responsibilities.
I want my wife and kids out with me.
Anyhow, regarding drinking before meetings, the cult doesn't care that much about it anymore:

Does this passage mean that we must not drink anything alcoholic before going to a Christian meeting? Think about these points: We are not under the Law. (Romans 10:4) In some lands, our fellow believers use alcoholic beverages in moderation at meals before attending meetings. Four cups of wine were used at the Passover. When instituting the Memorial, Jesus had his apostles drink wine that represented his blood. (Matthew 26:27) The Bible condemns heavy drinking and drunkenness. (1 Corinthians 6:10; 1 Timothy 3:8) And because of their conscience, many Christians may not drink any alcohol before worshipping Jehovah. However, circumstances are different from one country to another, and the important thing is for Christians to “distinguish between the holy thing and the profane” so that they can remain holy and please Jehovah.

OneEyedJoe: Welcome to the morning after
You know that expression/lyric, "feeling no pain 'til early morning"?
Yeah, that's me right now. It's early morning, and the pain is here.

Witness My Fury: If you are that alcohol tolerant then you have built up to it over a period of time...
I only drink on meeting nights...
In all seriousness, though, I think I do have a problem. I'm trying to deal with one problem at a time right now, however. I just fully woke up about a month ago.
But I have built up a tolerance to it over a period of time, like you said. That period of time is the entire time I've been of drinking age and been in the truth.
It builds and builds and builds and if you ignore the Cognitive Dissonance, you have to deal with it somehow. I turned to the bottle to avoid waking up to TTATT. That only worked for so long.
I'm getting some help for it, but it's undercover so as to not upset my wife or have to face a Judicial Committee.
Damn...this thread got all serious all of a sudden.
