68min of grilling.
so many highlights.
love seeing the hears grinding as they are asked questions... you can see the conflict in their mind as they weigh the .org's response vs the right one to make.

a friend at the convention told me that kenneth williams, a co in the houston texas area was recently removed and taken off the road.
does any one have any details?
There are quite a few that are being put out to pasture due to turning 70 or are older already. Tom Chin is one of these who has given all his life from infancy on and is now getting thrown under the bus. The guy is in better shape than I am and soldiers on like he was only 45. But rules are rules no matter who in the GB 2.0 pulls them out of their own ar$e.
Is that the same Tom Chin that was at Patterson Bethel?
so fisherperson sent me a pm asking a bunch of questions re my time at beth hell.

q:what years did you serve in brooklyn bethel?
So while we're sharing Bethel experiences, here's one.
When I first got to Bethel, I got there on a Friday night. I got up early on Saturday to go to Morning Worship and my roommates both say, "Oh, Saturday Morning Worship isn't required."
I went that day, since I was already dressed and I had no food in my room.
But from that point on, I only attended Saturday Morning Worship occasionally when I happened to be up early.
I would say I probably missed 85-90% of Saturday Morning Worship the next 8-10 months.
Come to find out, like 2 or 3 months before I left Bethel, I was talking to a new boy. He said something about how he wished they didn't have morning worship on Saturdays. I said, "Saturday's not required..." Everyone in the room looked at me and said, "HUH? You're mistaken. Who told you that?"
Boy did I have egg on my face. lol

I just learned from one of his his posts and photo on Flipper post, that he is also an ex-Bethelite.
By any chance do we know each other?
(By the way, I give you a hard time because I'm a douche and a troll like that. It's nothing personal, bud. I probably wouldn't give you such a hard time if your reactions didn't make me giggle.)

I am hurt however, that you have posted, that you view your service, that you believed was to God, with disrespect.
I don't view my service with disrespect. I view it occasionally with regret.
But I can't dwell on it. If I hadn't gone to Bethel, I wouldn't have gotten a view of the organization from that perspective, and my life today could be totally different.
Because of Bethel, I got homesick, then depressed, then angry that I didn't accomplish what I set out to do. (I wanted to stay for 3 years...ended up leaving after 1.) I came home, dejected, discouraged. I saw the hypocrisy among many (not all, mind you) while I was at Bethel. Left a bad taste in my mouth.
Got over it eventually. Moved to a new town. Met my wife.
I think it's very possible that I would still be a true believer if I hadn't gone to Bethel. So, in that respect, I very much am glad that I had the Bethel experience.
Shows up on mine.

as i have written previously, i crashed a discussion between a young j-dub and his baptist workmate who were having.
a religious debate outside starbucks.
this was months ago.
Fortunately, I only spent a year at Bethel.
Now, when prospective employers ask about that gap in my work history, I say I did volunteer work for 1 year for a faith-based Christian organization in New York. They usually like that, especially here in the Bible belt.

when i was in school, you never heard about critical thinking skills...not till you started taking college level courses.. i work closely with the public education community.
now, the big rage in public education is instilling critical thinking skills from kindergarten on up.. and i'm in texas!
imagine what it's like in more liberal areas.. i would not be surprised if the watchtower started denigrating and discouraging public education (k-12).. it would likely start like this: .

I would NOT be surprised if the Watchtower started denigrating and discouraging public education (K-12).
It would likely start like this:
"Some parents have seen the danger of having someone instruct their child that isn't a servant of Jehovah. They have taken advantage of home study courses."
"Many of the families we talked to that took advantage of home study courses emphasized how it opened the door to spiritual opportunity that wasn't there before."
"Jane (names have been changed), a mother of two, took her children out of public school while they were still in grade school. 'All the teachers wanted to do was talk about evolution, critical thinking, and push tolerance of immoral values. If I had not taken my children out of public school, our family would not have been able to attend pioneer school together. What a privilege!'"
What do you think?
Freemindfade thinks it would be funny if we could start a JW rumor about the society turning against K-12 education. lol
