Truth is not absolute...
How is truth not absolute? Something is either true or false. There is no evidence for in between.
truth is absolute.
there is no such thing as 2=1 or 1=2.. if one starts out with the equation 2=1, one has already failed.. truth = truth.
you cannot change whether something is truth or not.. when the organization teaches one thing as a truth (ex.

When the organization teaches one thing as a truth (ex. 144,000 are the Faithful and Discreet Slave) and then changes their position on that (ex. only Governing Body are the Faithful and Discreet Slave), what have they done to **truth**?
They have muddied it's meaning. They have become enemies of what truth is.
This is why it makes you uncomfortable when friends or family might decide to leave the organization or become "apostate." That discomfort you're feeling is called cognitive dissonance. It's because you no longer have a full grasp on what is true and you are trying to rely on others to tell you what is true.
If someone you relied on for truth came along and said, "Lurker, x used to be true, but now we're saying x isn't true, but y is true, and you must accept this because we have the authority to say this," you are going to experience discomfort.
The discomfort you feel is because deep down, you know that they and by extension **you** might be wrong, but you don't want to accept that fact.
Stop trying to fit the Governing Body's doctrine into the realm of truth.
Don't make "the truth" your own, learn what TRUTH is on your own, and then apply it.
this is a question for ex jw's who have joined another christian faith group.
the purpose of my question iis to find out which christian faith group you chose after leaving watchtower and what convinced you to travel this new spiritual path you are on.
i am interested to know because i personally would like to find a genuine faith group where i can feel true christian liberty as i initially thought i had with the witnesses.
dubstepped: "...intelligent discussions on here of any type of faith..."
Intelligent discussions of any type of faith should include the skeptics. Otherwise, it's just an echo chamber and isn't really "intelligent" after all.
If you feel you have some special insight or proof for your faith, you should speak up and share it with us. Please share it with me. I would renounce atheism in a heartbeat if you can show me solid evidence.
I WANT to believe. Wanting to believe is what led me on a deep search for existential truth in the scriptures. The evidence I have examined on both sides of the issue is overwhelmingly in favor of the fact that the God of the Bible is false and kind of a dick.
Why are believers so afraid to examine evidence? If their version of the truth is true, wouldn't the evidence in favor of their version be overwhelming instead of the opposite? And what makes a Christian's version of existential truth more "provable" than a Muslim's version? They both claim the same "evidence." "[insert holy book name] has never changed since it was written! It's been preserved! It obviously has God's/Allah's backing!"
Now, on the other hand, if your faith is about you just wanting a social club and to talk about fantastical metaphysics, that's a different story. Religion and faith are perfect for bringing people together to discuss nonsense. Magic the Gathering and D&D RPG clubs also bring people together to discuss nonsense. The only difference is that the latter know the difference between reality and fairytale, and they don't use the mythology of the stories to dictate morals or condemn others' actions.
been lurking around here for several weeks.
posted once or twice but not too much.
i'm a covert fade at the moment.
Welcome!
I'm so happy you are awake and you were able to wake up your family.
On the beliefs front, take your time. Go where the evidence leads you.
Research how the bible came together to begin with. Council of Nicea, etc.
Also, research the evidence that evolutionary biologists point to.
Try to objectively examine both sides of the equation.
The evidence will lead you to truth and freedom.
so why has the growth flatlined?
why is less time spent in the ministry?
why have aux pios droped by 1/3rd?.
Simon: You brought up the Shakers.
You know, if the JW's are relegated to Shaker status, I would call that a victory for the cause. Even if they are still technically "around."
jwbaptism blog retaken (by a jw).
the blog from which the article www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/beliefs/241890/1/jw-baptism was taken was closed down by the blogger in the early part of 2012. however, it seems to have recently been claimed by what appears to be the son of a father whose story was featured on the original blog.
please visit this site to see the tirade against 'apostates' in true cult-personality style.
