Old Testament's God Is Not The God of Love - How Do You Prove it?

" the lord examines the righteous, but the wicked, those who love violence, he hates with a passion.

I was having a discussion with a brother about the following topic: If Psalms says
" The LORD examines the righteous, but the wicked, those who love violence, he hates with a passion." (New International Version)
shouldn't we apply the same principle to the Old Testament, as it's clear that is full with violence, adultery, and all sorts of things we are not supposed to read or watch otherwise.
I also told him about Richard Dawkins' opinion on the OT God which summerizes up my thoughts on the subject pretty well.
The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully.Basically what I want is answers, proofs that I could present him, because he said we would continue the debate in the near future.
You all know the jw defense mechanism and how they have got answers for any questions and backdoors. I'll apprciate your help. Here are his main points:
- The tribes from canaan were wicked beyond measure therefore they deserved to be massacred. Wasn't this a rightfull act?
- If we grab out specific details from the context surely Dawkins' opinion reflects the truth. Then he called him - based on the same principle - "superficial, arrogant, full with prejudices, lacking logical competence and plagiarizes because he steals other's view on the subject.
- Why would such a cruel god spare anyone?
And his final argument:
- The Bible is written the way it is so that those without deep interest to understand it won't understand its real meanig.
I think there is a slight possiblity that he'll tell about me to the elders. His words are the poorest arguments I've evere seen; I only mentioned them because I want you to see the whole picture. I know that a lot of you have much more experience in debates like this then I have.
So, how do you prove that the Old Testament's God is not the god of love?

Disfellowshipped Memorial partakers
by JustVisting injust wondering if the attendants are instructed not to "count" known df'd memorial partakers.
who sincerely partake of the emblems, considering the unsettling increase in partakers of late.. just asking.

What words of the OP made you say: "The question implicit in the OP demands belief in the unbelievable." Could you elaborate please because this makes no sense whatsoever.
"The one thing you got right is the INCREASE of partakers" . Hmm..there was litarelly no fact presented in the OP beside the increase of partekers. What could he possibly got not right?

Memorial talk fact checking - a story
by 88JM inthis was in the memorial talk here last night, used as an illustration i guess.. i think there is some direction to use an experience like this in the outline, but the story that the speaker told (presented as fact) sounds totally bogus to me, or at best urban legend.. does anyone know if this is actually true?
here is the story the speaker told:.
"some years ago there was a tragic train accident in england, and sadly some lost their lives.

What's that smell? I smell bullshit here. Anyway, the last night's memorial talk was the lamest one I've ever heard. 10% Jesus, 90% Jehovah; not that I'm a christian or something but isn't it supposed to be about Jesus?
I googled "england train accident sacrafice". There are several stories like the one you mentioned, I mean they are stories with the same moral, any of them could be used as an illustration for Jesus' sacrifice.

You know you're stuck in this cult when you don't get invited but still attend the memorial.

I'm so sad I missed this conversation, maybe I can join now. Last time it was a lot of fun. I love the show because it explains things in details and gives insight about the historical background for different theories and concepts. Sure, it is not gonna help me to get my BSc but still I see it as a very productive way of recreation; I'm entertained but also learning something new. I wish I had professors in my college like Neil Tyson or whoever writes the script for the episodes.
Viviane, coursera.org is indeed an awesome website. I watched a few nanotechnology lectures a few months ago xD

Killing animals is a tell tale sign of serial killers and psychopaths
by confusedandalone inwas bible god (or the people who contributed to the personality of bible god) a serial killer or a psychopath???.
really, from the book of genesis on god always wanted blood and flesh and fat of animals over everything else.
cain offers him fruits and veggies and god does nbot want that filth.

Reading the original post I just realized that the tale of Cain and Abel was used for propaganda porpuses in Isreal. They would tell their sons these tales to let them know that if they worshipped other ways they would end up miserable like Cain. Just as you said before, it's so easy to see the whole idea behind the Bible now that God is no longer in the picture.

I've never in my life paid for software. This may sound bad, however in my country 75% of the users wouldn't be using computers if they needed to pay for softwares. I've been using Windows 7 since it came out, it's much better then any windows os imho.
