I agree with many posters here that nothing will change die hard Witnesses. I was hoping that the absurd overlapping generations would cause a chism in this religion and cause many to fall away...that did not happen; and in my humble opinion I think the overlapping gereration is more of a reach than the recent new light on the FDS. For many they will keep plugging along until they die and have their JW funeral where we can hear all about their life accomplishments in two minutes or less then focus on what's really important-The Watchtower Corporation. (sorry for the sarcasm)

Telling family about "new light"
by Billy the Ex-Bethelite inokay, now it's my turn to start a thread about the gb/fds "new light" now that it's been well covered by many threads.
i've noticed that a few have brought this subject up with dub family who accepted wt "new light" without objection, saying that it "made sense" for the fds to only be the gb.
so i have an idea of how to bring this up with my family in such a way that will highlight that this doesn't make sense... at all.. and the timing of this whole thing is incredibly convenient for me since it wasn't that long ago that this came up with my parents and i said that the wt interpretation of the fds in matthew was out-of-context and flawed.

Standard of Living in the New System
by cobaltcupcake ini used to wonder about this when i was still a dub: since they believe the industrialized world is going to be destroyed and the entire earth will be one big garden, exactly what kind of standard of living do they think they will have?
while they might be able to scavenge, say, a microwave oven or washing machine; and they might be able to figure out how to generate electricity, eventually all of these things will wear out and they'll be back in an early 18th century type of life.
people of that time and earlier who enjoyed a high standard of living employed armies of servants to do the dirty work, but since equality will reign in the ns, everyone will have to toil like a slave just to maintain the basics.. or do they think that big j will magically power their washing machines and water pumps and all the stuff that makes modern living so comfortable?.

I will occasionally attend meetings with my wife and I mean “occasionally”. I told her this is the reason I can no longer engage in the ministry. I just cannot bring myself to spread a message I absolutely do not believe in. I will go with her to Kingdom Hall for supportvbut that is where it ends. She had a hard time with this, always having to answer the awkward inquisitions of the brothers and sisters but now she is used to it, not happy but used to it. If I ever go in service again I will be distributing the “Do Jehovah’s Witnesses Have the Truth” pamphlet from the jwfacts website.

First of all, thank you @Altantis for making this letter available and to @Cedars for your excellent observation and summation of the letter . I was surprised but not shocked at the response the Governing Body delivered. Since my “awakening” a few years ago I have seen a pattern both past and present of self-sabotage such as the archaic blood doctrine and now their continued narrow minded stance on child abuse will certainly induce the ire and outrage of the general public including public officials and quite possibly the authorities. If and when this happens they will use it as their platform to cry “Persecution” and tell their loyal adherents that they are simply following the bibles commands and as prophesied; they are being persecuted for it. I cannot think of any other reasonable explanation for this reckless act that they knew full well would reach the general public.

Personally I appreciate the effort Cedars is taking to keep as many of as possible informed on this monumental case. I might also add to 144001 that while you did make some valid points; I feel you should have sent Cedars your viewpoint via a PM. I do not see the need to publicly embarrass another member of the forum who has proven over time that he is a person of integrity. Many of 144001's comments were disturbing to me because it reminded me of how the elders like to talk down to the publishers and demean them. At least Cedars is investing his time and finances to help all of us keep abreast of the situation-and for that I am truly grateful. So once again Cedars-THANK YOU!
On a side note, this case has helped me convince my Mother-In-Law to stop sending money to the WTS. Over the years she has donated thousands and thousands of dollars. Once I was able to show her what was happening, she was appalled. Just recently she told me the WTS is not getting another dime from her. That was music to my ears...

I thank you for all your comments. I was very careful not to state anything in absolutes. Ironically I used clever terminology that the WTS uses such as "evidently, clearly, it would seem reasonable” etc. I honestly don’t think it will come to them giving me the boot. I know exactly what to say if it comes down to a showdown. This would not be the first time I have gotten myself out of a squirrelly situation.
Like Terry stated in an earlier post; I feel like we were simply having a conversation not an interrogation.
I never once commented that my beliefs are rocked. I threw it out there for some healthy debate-nothing more. It was mere speculation. I have heard far more outlandish comments and opinions than this during dinner parties amongst the “friends.

Two elders paid me a surprise visit last weekend. It was their attempt to discover why I have become inactive in my meeting attendance and the ministry. To set matters straight as I told them I do attend the meetings occasionally but I have not reported F.S. for several months. I simply explained that I do not have the will and resolve to spread a message of doom for an event that may never happen. They became inquisitive and asked for an explanation. I said “I don’t know if God is still going to bring about a global destruction. According to the Watchtower Armageddon has been coming for well over 100 years, maybe God changed his mind.” They were floored at my comment and then used a plethora of scriptures showing Jehovah has an appointed time for everything, this event is on His timetable not ours. He is a God of order, then concluded with Jehovah does not tell a lie and that his yes means yes and His no, no.
So I asked them. “Did Jehovah have an appointed time to bring about destruction on Nineveh?” Silence…I said when Jonah finally arrived to the City he stated that in “just forty days” destruction would be upon them. So Jehovah absolutely had an appointed time. Did Jehovah lie, or did he change his mind? They then tried to spin it stating that pending destruction was a condition of their repentance. “Really?” I said. “According to the bible book of Jonah can you show me where Jehovah or Jonah stated this?” I then showed them direct from the bible that the ONLY message was destruction and there was no caveat on the message that this would occur, UNLESS THEY REPENTED. I then showed then the final verse in Chapter four where it says; ‘And, for my part, ought I not to feel sorry for Nin′e·veh the great city,in which there exist more than one hundred and twenty thousand men who do not at all know the difference between their right hand and their left, besides many domestic animals?’
These 120,000 men who did not the difference between their right and left hand can only be referring to children. God felt sorry for the innocent children and even the domestic animals. This was just one small insignificant City and he had a change of heart. Why could he not change his mind when Billions are invoved! Then they started getting very defensive and saying this old system is so corrupt immoral etc. and God has to bring an end, blah, blah, blah. I then concluded the conversation with. “You two sound just like Jonah when he found out Jehovah was going to spare the City.” You could have heard a pin drop! Then the conversation ended with some pleasantries and they left shortly thereafter. I will keep you posted on the fallout!
