Recovery From The Jehovah's Witnesses - A Guide
by pale.emperor inhey guys.
a friend online asked me about my recovery and how i managed to recover relatively easily from watchtower indoctrination.
although i think a major part of it is acquainting oneself with information about the watchtower and it's history, a lot of it (for me at least) was an inner game.

Why Do People Become JWs?
by minimus ini was born in the religion but why on earth do people join this religion?
?.

What stan livedeath posted: often wives join first...then drag hubby along; and dupstepped commented:
Still others hear about the end of the world and fear drives them.
I have to personally agree with their comments, for these were the main two (2) initial reasons why my mother came into the BORG. She was a Baptist prior to a JW coming to her home with the phonograph in the 1920s. She read the pamphlet that was left by a brother and kept that with her for a long while. About a decade later, an anointed sister contacted her, mainly telling her about Armageddon. From that day forward, she was scurred and made all efforts to be dedicated and baptized. My father followed suit, wanting to make her happy.
Now, although they both believed in God, I really think that the BORG's message of doom and gloom pushed them to join. This became a terrible legacy in the way they conducted our family studies; and this also pushed us to continue to mentally picture mayhem and destruction of people (innocent adults and children) if they don't come to worship Jehovah. Even scifi/horror movies like 1970s flick "The Day of the Animals" were always pointed out by my mother when she spoke to us and some others, within the cong we associated in at the time, to make her points about Armageddon. I wish that my parents (both they have both passed on) knew TTATT, just like me and my family members now do.

There is an actress who is an ex-JW: Her name is Juliana Devers. She has had roles on ABC-TV series "Castle" and "Scandal". [In fact, there is thread started via fellow regular poster "RR" about her life experiences.] Reading about her, I would personally suggest that maybe she could do what Leah Remini is now showing about Scientology.

Org Is RACIST! Towards Sisters Of COLOR In Particular--IMO!
by HiddlesWife ini'm sorry--i'm getting this very sensitive vibe that the org (mainly those at the top) don't have any respect--forget about love--for sisters of color.
i'm coming to this conclusion from a couple of videos on jw broadcasting about single sisters.. after watching this video: .

I'm sorry--I'm getting this very sensitive vibe that the Org (mainly those at the top) don't have any respect--forget about love--for sisters of color. I'm coming to this conclusion from a couple of videos on jw broadcasting about single sisters.
After watching this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tnjrbkgGP4g
Showing the black sister (Afro-Brit) and her dilemma re: wanting a marriage mate and told "bad advice" about JW dating websites.
Also, this one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xuWY9TMVRQ
It is entitled: "What Is True Love?". Again, showing a sister of color (Latina/Hispanic) having difficulty concerning a relationship and wanting to marry a decent brother.
No offense to anyone caucasian but: these videos are displaying the females of color having hard times/bad experiences while the white sisters are not going through a great deal of trials in this area--and not that they have to--but, to me (and a few others I mentioned these to) it is very noticeable and certainly not fair.
Furthermore: Doesn't the GB (and their helpers) realize that a great deal of Jehovah's Army, which are women, are mainly women of color--expecially within the USA? Come on, now! To me, it seems as though--and hopefully not--videos are sending subliminal messages to the sisters--and possibly brothers--that this to be their only lot plus future in life. No prospects for any happiness--particularly due to race/background and gender!
Sorry folks for my usual rants ("Yeah, Hiddleswife is at it again, with topics in this area!"), but it really, really pisses me off when stuff like this is going on in the Org; this is not supposed to happen there. Speakers along with the publications for many years have been always saying that "we are no part of the world" when it comes to the aforementioned. However, as I pointed out in one of my previous threads I started during summer, I still notice that in the "world" non-dubs are having very little situations/issues with interracial relationships and mixed families. {S.N.: If the Org does not respect women of color, WHY SEND JWs TO PREACH TO THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE?! MAY BE THEY SHOULD AVOID KNOCKING ON THEIR DOORS FROM THE GITTYUP!!}
Once again, sorry for the rant (apologies for the all caps, which denotes yelling). So, about this posting and the videos, could anyone please give me some feedback? (I promise to be civil and not yell anymore). Thanks.

I found a plethora of You Tube videos made by some who are in the org. or who are done with it, etc. The following I see are very interesting are:

https://www.youtube.com/results?q=mike+kim
https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=john+cedars
https://www.youtube.com/results?q=christian+katja
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlIXYlptHfc (Susan Gaskin's experiences as a single sister in the org.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PbT3a_40gM (Joy Grant's testimonies about the org.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQLfi1u2JAw (vera747's points of view)
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqzPVz33YJm-AfP7LGIHZHw [TruthSurvives411 (former elder)]
. . . . . and I know plus I'm sure that the list goes on and on. The above is evidence that there are so many persons who were in the org and have discovered what is really going on in there. So, does any one have any other videos they'd like to share? If so, let me know!

Brothers Not Traveling With Sisters, Etc.
by HiddlesWife ini've noticed within the past 2-3 decades that brothers have not traveled to various destinations with sisters and/or families.. myself with my own 2 sisters (bio/spiritual), 3 cousins, and 4-5 friends usually travel once a year during the spring and summer months to a number of places, whether it be via bus, train or plane.
the travel groups [there are 3 which are commandeered by some older sisters and their own bio sisters, daughters, and granddaughters plus a niece or two)] which total about 30-40 persons travel regularly during these times of the year.
although there are a great amount of females on these trips, there are hardly any adult males in attendance; the only males who are seated with the group range from age 5 to 12 approximately--these young boys are 2-6 in total--and once they reach high school age, that number dwindles from 1-0!.

Thank you No Apologies for your response. I agree with you wholeheartedly re: those in the org being very deficient socially. In conjunction with your comment, here's a couple of other points:
During the above formal I attended a while back, there was a brother who was a comedian who performed on stage at that venue. While his jokes and pantomimes were funny and clean, there was very little laughter heard--in fact, from the over 100 folks who attended! The only ones I noticed who laughed, besides myself, my sisters and my cousins, were the hostesses and their family members. This was so noticeable that the brother himself ended his routine by commenting that "laughter was created by Jehovah for mankind to enjoy themselves. We, as His people, should take advantage of this emotion and enjoy ourselves, too"; he walked off the stage shaking his head in disbelief (also bro-ham did not stay long at this event). Talk about a tough audience!
Secondly, on a couple of bus trips given by a married couple from my cousin's former congregation, which I traveled on about over 12 years ago, there was a concert scheduled on the itinerary for the group to attend. The music was a variety of genres, particularly jazz, pop, plus R&B. You know, the majority of the group just sat there--zombie-ish/no movement at all--while the music was played! Myself in addition to my family members, and around less than 10 other brothers and sisters snapped our fingers and 'bopped and danced ourselves to the groove', enjoying the performance. Again, talk about another tough audience!
In agreement with another point from your comment: These ones are mentally and psychologically stunted to the degree whereby they can't (and/or don't) enjoy music--a gift from Jah Himself! What a shame!

After witnessing this pattern, I asked my two male cousins who are in the org and three other brothers, whom are close to my family. They all expressed, in their own words, that "brothers are not interested in shopping or going to a lot of places that sisters like/fancy to go/see". I became confused by those words--especially since I see groups of MEN and BOYS in so many other groups (no doubt NON-DUBS) travelling and having a great time/fun with females (no matter what age range) in their riding parties. {Hell, my above-listed family and friends spoke about a large car group of people, which we saw during a recent trip--racially mixed with men and women, children plus pets--shopping, dining and having a great ole' time!} We all could not believe it!
I asked the sisters who were the trip leaders about this. They commented that "a number of brothers act like, unless they are getting married to a sister, they won't want to be in the company of other ones" and "Some brothers feel more comfortable associating with other brothers. They think that sisters are not interested in basketball games, pool, certain movies and the like. So, they decline when I ask them to go on my trips!".
Furthermore--if I could add to this topic--I attended a year and half ago a formal. This event was given by three married sisters. The invitees in attendance was mostly female and very, very few males (ratio: 90% female - 10% male). The males there were the marriage mates of the hostesses and their daughters plus nieces and a toddler or two. As usual, the majority of women (mainly sisters) who could dance, danced with one another.
Again, what is going on here with the org? Mysogyny--or are some of these men involved in things, which on the other hand get them in a whole $%^* load of trouble in private while the women are globetrotting? (Sorry for my rant again) Oi vey!!!!!

Keep the meeting going! (even if somebody's dying)

Kind of sidebar, but I'm sure my experience is in conjunction with this topic:
When my maternal grandmother died in the mid-1990s (she was the main family member who brought us all in the org), my immediate family did not attend meetings during the week that she passed on (we had to travel back and forth to the hospital where she expired; also making funeral arrangements, etc.). What shocked me was that a few brothers and sisters--a couple of elders and their wives were commenting that, "The ___________ Family should come to the meetings anyway". "The funeral arrangements can be taken care of in the a.m. hours", and other similar remarks. When we heard this, we were appalled--how dare they! We just lost a loved one in death, and this is the mindset/mentality they showed to us. These ones have no compassion and certainly no heart!
