  Less emphasis on 1914?

  i'm not sure if this subject has been touched before but i noticed that since the turn of the millennium, the watchtower has paid less attention to "1914".

  that is to say, when checking the frequency of the term '1914' in the watchtower from 1970-2003 through the wt-library 2003, there is a notable decrease after 1999. see the attached graph.

  would that be a significant development or just statistical coincidence?

  If I recall correctly, the year 1984 has way more occurrences than other years because they were 'celebrating' the 70th anniversary of 1914 with a four-part series on 1914.
  

  Checking my most recent Watchtower coaster, 1914 was mentioned 108 times in just four WT issues during 1984 -- April 1, April 15, May 1, and May 15. This series sported titles such as "1914 a Marked Year", "1914 A Focal Point", "1914--It Changed Your Life", "What 1914 Could Mean for You", and "1914--The Generation that WILL NOT Pass Away." (what a joke, esp that last one)

  Looking at their CD, it seems to me that mentions of 1914 dropped off in the WT mag around 1995 - which (surprise!) is the year they changed the meaning of a 'generation'. Oh they still talk about 1914, they just don't talk about the 1914 generation any more.

  The WT is actually pushing 1914 more than ever. The newest video they put out, intended for teens and young adults, tells 'em to study 1914 and firmly believe it so they can teach it to their Bible studies. Of course that info never shows up in the statistics.

  Unfortunately for them, they have so much of their belief system tied up in 1914 that they would require a complete doctrinal overhaul to drop it.

  LOL at the idea that they actually believe teens have Bible studies.

  QUIET signs at assemblies

  lol...this one kills me.

  again this year brothers had to walk the halls carrying signs that said "quiet please" everyone just ignores these poor embarrassed brothers.

  the assemblay is going on and yet the halls are full of ppl walking, visiting, cruisin'.

  This year I saw the dumbest thing yet with regard to these QUIET PLEASE signs.

  They had attendants carrying them around during the lunchtime intermission - a full 20 minutes before the music started. Do they really expect people to be quiet during lunchtime too now?

  Are there any teachers on this board?

  so, i'm thinking about becoming a high school teacher.

  i'm finishing up a summer course at my community college and will be going to northeaster illinois university in the fall.

  i've been thinking about majoring in biology and secondary education (instead of history and secondary ed.).

  Yep, I'm a teacher. Lots of work for not a lot of pay. And I don't get the summers off either - teachers have to do graduate work on their own money and time. But if you enjoy teaching, it's not a bad way to go.

  A few years, a guy (non-Witness) was caught in the KH parking lot siphoning gas out of cars. But I wasn't personally robbed.

  Any new halls?

  when i joined the org.

  in 1988, every once in a while new halls were being built here and there.

  i couldn't pass a month without hearing that a new hall was being built.

  All the new halls I've heard of in the last several years were built only because the old buildings were either falling in or were on the bad side of town. I know of none built because of they actually outgrew an old building.

  I just hope that this case drags WT mud out into the open, so the public can see the way they treat their members and ex-members. I'm wondering how Barbara came up with the 2 million dollars in compensatory damages.

  Veterans day is a bunch of crap!!

  i have several friends that are veterans and they have to work on monday!!

  yet teachers (and we know how useless they are) and students get the day off.i have an idea!!

  why don't they just let the veterans off, would that be asking too much??

  Teachers, and thier union, are a major part of the problems in this country. That problem could be solved if more people showed up at school district meetings, demanding change, rather than letting it slide.

  Incorrect. The bureaucracy and administration which cripples the sytem are a major part of the problems in our country. Teachers are overworked, underpaid, and anyone who says otherwise has never been a teacher in a U.S. public school or is in an ideal teaching situation. Local school boards are also a major part of the problem. When the people running a school district are concerned only with the next election and spending less money, it is destined to fail. Say what you will, but the vast majority of teachers are NOT the problem.

  When I went to college in the mid-90's, I was personally taken to the library by the Service Overseer and told I shouldn't go off to college. You see, not only did I go to college, I lived on campus for 4 years, I was the first person at the meetings and the last one to leave all four years. I went out in service twice a week the whole time I was there.

  You see, I wasn't going to allow myself to be the scarecrow the elders back home could point to and say, "Don't be like NotBlind, he went to college and then he quit the Trooth." Maybe more JW's back home will go to college, like I did, and buck the elders.

  Of course, I never told them I learned the truth about the Trooth on the internet while in college.....
