Noah's Ark

so i'm reading the book "the atheist book of bible stories" and something just occurred to me.. noahs ark rested on the top of mount ararat.

how the hell did all the land animals, dinosaurs and other monsters get to ground level?

did noah and his family just push them off the mountain and hope for the best?

The Sumerian tablets had exactly the same story recorded a few thousand years earlier. It could have been passed down and re-written for the Bible. I think there are at least 5 stories of the same tale from different cultures.

Historian point out that the area was prone to floods. Noah would have actually gather 2 of each of his heard on a small boat to just keep his livestock alive. Floated just a few miles. It was his occupation - like any homeowner would do to protect his lively hood. Stories from mouth-to-mouth change after 100's of years.

Very Sad ... Another Terrorist Attack here in the USA ... and not enough guns to defend us

if only there were more people with guns perhaps some lives would have been saved.. it's a sad state of affairs here in the us when enough people aren't armed when there is an attack.. if someone simply had a gun or was wearing a suicide vest to take the perpetrators out, other lives could have been saved.. rub a dub .

What is better? Terrorists killing because of religion who are 150% army-ish and a country that is 10-30% army-ish, or terrorists that are 150% army-ish and a country that is 0% army-ish?

Part of the think is mutual assured destruction. A group of terrorist running into a Christmas party where 10% may be carrying guns - may think twice about starting to shoot. Of course there is the suicide part, but may only a few would have been killed before the terrorist were killed.

It is a practical measure. Give the option, I would rather be standing next to the guy that was armed.

rebel8 - I agree. I think ministers should UNDERSTAND the book they are teaching others. I don't think just plagiarism of Arius works in any way. The Bible is what it is - human understanding of a certain point in time. I respect it as a guideline - but I never respect it as a rule book.

Theology is probably closer in nature to philosophy than pure Bible study.

In what world did Russell have any business to publish such crap as the made up "Studies in the Scriptures"?? He was so wrong. He plagiarized the works of Arius that was kicked out of Christianity in 320 AD. Russell was a fraud. Russell was never ordained by any Church. The entire Watchtower is a fraud. NO ONE in the Watchtower has ever been an ordained minister - they would spontaneous combust. They can't even set foot in a Church. The Watchtower sold their soles a long time ago to create the cult.

My grandfather had his degree in theology, and he was an elder. He is the only one I ever knew. (He became a JW for my grandmother, they married later in life, around 30 YO, so he was an Anglican minister when he met her.)

Pyramid expert? Charles Russell took donated money and traveled to Egypt. He based his entire belief on his measurements of the pyramid that the world was absolutely going to end in 1914. Opps. He then stated that his measurements had been off and the real year was 1915 that the world would positively end in 1915. God was just laughing at him and had to let 1915 stretch out to really embarrass him. No end of the world. God killed the false prophet in 1916 for being a pagan ass.

I was just thinking that a crazy really messed up religion that has always hated education and real Christian Churches must be made up of the really devoted ones - the ones that hate education and Christians. So what does that leave? An org of stupid uneducated people that can't understand the Bible. Sounds like a group that will loose money hand-over-fist and bankrupt themselves.

with all the conversations, and truly distractions, of shortfalls and money problems - sell off about 1.2 billion of highly valued, tax exempt, property in brooklyn ny and build an ehhh 500 million property upstate.

i am intrigued to know if there is truly any evidence of financial irregularities in the jehovah's witness organisation or if any one or group are raking off funds or benefitting financially...?.

whilst i disagree wholeheartedly with most of their teachings and practices, dogmatism, legalism and superiority complex, i don't honestly think there's anyone making millions at the top.

yes you could say that the gb are comfortably off, don't have to pay bills etc but they do actually get up in the morning and 'work', they aren't going off in private jets to tropical islands or driving bentleys.
