hey peeps,.
it's been a long while since i've posted (i am completely out - wife and kids still in) but thought you might this interesting.. they came home from the district convention yesterday with the new dvd intended for kids.
they popped it in right away and this is what happens:.
On the basis that he was called a wizard (by Owen Lars) and was obviously a warrior, my childhood Obi-Wan Kenobi toy must have made Jehovah sad.
Too bad....
i thought it might be interesting and fun to have a "predictions thread", where we set out our predictions for events to unfold concerning the watch tower society (or jehovah's witnesses in general) over the coming years/decades.. it strikes me that so much has happened in the last ten years, most of which has defied expectations.
here's just a few of the developments that i can think of:.
the abolishment of group book studies in favor of a "family worship evening"the creation of a "study edition" watchtowerthe halving of monthly magazine printing commitmentsthe unprecedented closure/merging of branches (16% reduction in branches last year)the menlo park scandal, a body of elders removed for resisting a refurb of their kingdom hallthe lawsuits in victoria, australia - the society taken to court concerning child protection lawscourtroom admissions about the faithful & discreet slave and similarities with the catholic churchincreased hate speech against "mentally diseased" apostatesastonishing lapses of judgment, such as the "selma and steve" study articlethe ditching of gilead as a school for missionariesambitious construction plans for a new world hq (with or without jehovah's blessing!
Direction to clear out Kingdom Hall Libraries -" They take up valuable space that's needed for more congregation chairs, and everything we need is on the CD-ROM."
The true reason of course being that the old publications expose the WT, and are history that can't be re-written (whereas the latest CD-ROM edition can re-write history).
my fave was roy renouf - district overseer.
always had time for me and seemed to keep thigs real.. heard that on a zone vist he told the governing body the branch was told old and grumpy or something like that!.
worst was michael purbrick.
Charlie Scurlock was a miserable old bugger, as was his wife. It's hard to imagine anyone less Christ-like. John Hobden was only marginally better.
Bill Harris was alright, but a bit mad.
David Lane seemed like a genuinely nice guy.
drop its teaching on paradise earth.. the primary issue facing the watchtower results from it's teaching that members will never die, but live forever on this earth in paradise.
this teaching is cause of most of the doctrinal failures, and will be its eventual demise.. the promise of never dying is one of the foremost motivations for people that join the religion, and the message of living forever in paradise is compelling.
however, it is also the watchtower's achilles heel, as it forces false predictions of the nearness of the end.
The modern world is increasingly tolerant of others lifestyles and beliefs.
In order to survive, the WTS needs to be more liberal. Instead it is increasingly hard-line. It’s pushing more of its members to breaking point, and is likely losing respect it previously may have had in communities.
Belief in God is in decline almost universally, especially amongst younger generations. Atheists are becoming increasingly vocal – religion is now openly attacked (verbally) rather than quietly scoffed at.
I agree with Refriedtruth that 2012 is going to make JW’s and their doomsday message look more foolish.
The response in the ministry is going to be increasingly condescending towards JW’s. Embarrassment, apathy from householders and sheer weariness are going to take even greater toll on publishers. Pushing youngsters to join the pioneer ranks is going to increase resentment towards the organization as they put all their efforts into fruitless activity.
I reckon the best chance the WTS has is to scrap regular pioneering. Allow JW’s to have a relatively ‘normal’ life, earn some money for the contribution box, ease up a bit on the guilt about hours and allow the religion to plod slowly along rather than pressing for more ‘wondrous expansion’. Keep auxiliary pioneering to allow for the odd ‘special effort’ (i.e. memorial season) and for those who feel the need to have their extra hours noticed by the congregation.
i have been on this site daily, almost from its beginning, since i left the jws in 2001, but i have been more of a reader than a poster, as you can see from my post count.
i know few here know me, although i know many of you through reading your posts.
maybe it is not right to ask for support, when i generally stay quietly in the background of this forum, but i want only to speak a human misery of the deepest kind.
I am so sorry for your loss.

i use usualusername as i am not creative enough to think of anything sexier.... .
what significance is there behind your profile name?.
.
Because I was so nervous about joining an evil apostate forum I was comepletely freaked out when I joined and totally mucked up entering my username.
I'm stuck with it now...
who were the anointed between 100 and 1879 ad?
*** kingdom approached chap.
17 p. 344 par.
At a recent District Convention, during one of those scripted Question/Answers items, they said that Isaac Newton was one of the anointed.
Perhaps they're just picking historical figures at random.
What the Bible really teaches: talking snakes and fruit trees are a dangerous combination.
the one thing that got to me was that this religion is illogical.
their "logic" is ridiculous, especially when it comes to their blood doctrine.
downright weird!.
All the rules and regulations have more in common with the Pharisees than with Jesus. "The truth will set you free." ... JWs are anything but free.
Personally after 40 years being taught JW teachings, I still had doubts whether it was the truth or not. If that's case, then how is someone who's just got out of bed and is still in their dressing gown supposed to be convinced when we stand on their doorstep offering lame magazines for 20 seconds?
Subsequently, because the householders aren't convinced it's the truth, Jehovah decides they deserve everlasting destruction. That would be grossly unfair and is completely incompatible with the idea of a God whose dominant quality is love.
