even though i knew some of the doctrines were so convoluted they couldnt be genuine, every prophecy mentioned in the bible was simplistic and direct i still felt it was the best place to raise a family.

the merrimack congregation in nh is seeking to buy land and build a new kh, the nh rbc has plans to build a $750,000 (that's right a three quarter million kh).
"the branch" has wanted to build a kh between the cities of concord and manchester nh for quite a few years now.
unfortunately the wt has looked into their resources, local bank account is over $100,000, and they can contribute $2,000 monthly towards a mortgage.

birthdays.
i have always questioned the witness belief that birthdays are not to be celebrated.
another reason is that various customs that tend to accompany birthday celebrations have pagan origins.

it is not seen as 'going against jehovah' to accept traditions and customs in a wedding ceremony/celebration that have pagan origins but it is 'going against jehovah' to then accept other traditions and customs that also have origins in paganism that no longer are viewed or used 'locally' as pagan.
if the FDS say i can bash a pinata in mexico then i can surely celebrate the day i was born - a miracle - without feeling i am 'displeasing god'.

i'm so curious, why they're not celebrating their birthdays?
is it just because jesus don't celebrate it and it's not written in the bible that they celebrated the birthday of jesus?
or is it written in the bible not to celebrate birthday?
there is no biblical/scriptural reason to not celebrate yours or somebody else's Birthday. because some 'custom' had pagan origins many years ago, does not make it 'pagan' now. one example is the wedding ring. originally a pagan symbol and there was superstious reasons for placing it on the 3rd finger. (something to do with a vein from the 3rd finger to the heart). i can't think there is too many brides at the KH who would not have a big sparkler and a wedding ring, even though they have pagan origins.
whatever reasoning you get from your bible study teachers to show you how birthdays are in opposition to Jehovah will be very weak at best. I know JW's of 40-50yrs who cannot tell you why they dont celebrate birthdays, "because its pagan" is the usual response.
