To Isojourn, Where did you get that pic of my MIL? Hubby's Jw mom made Joan Crawford seem warm and fuzzy. My Jw dad was Mommy Dearest in dress slacks. (substite his belt for wire hangers). While it's likely our parents would have abused acohol and had their explosive tempers regardless of their religion, how can a pre-school child process the additional beatings that came because we wiggled at the KH? We are both only children who had absolutely no one to simpathize or talk to. Abuse cloaked in religion. I remember Prov.13:24 was constantly quoted. The rod of dicipline was definately taken LITERALLY .In the 50's I was often the only witness in my school. I say often because I went to 13 schools. Why? Because my parents moved constantly. Why? Partly to build KH's in towns that needed them and partly for business oppertunities. He had to make lots of money. Why? Because he wanted to be a big shot and donate the land and make HUGE contributions to the Watchtower. Why? So he could be promoted. Was he promoted? You bet he was! My dad INVENTED the green handshake! Hob Nobed with NH Knorr, wined and dined Jaracz etc. Mom told me in the early 60's he gave the DO $10,000.00 because he was in hot water for his drinking. (with inflation can you imagine how much that would be now? That was half the price of a house!) Did it work? You bet it did! BTW, we lived modestly. Wouldn't want to be accused of "The showy display of ones means of life"

Was Your Life As A Jehovah's Witness HORRIBLE???
by minimus ini can't say my life was ruined because i was a witness.
still, i wish that my upbringing was different.
there's a lot i don't like at all about the witnesses but by the same token, there are some very good people who happen to be jws.. i'm sure some of you hated your life as a witness and i'm sure you have valid reasons..

when you were a jw did you believe in cavemen ?
by looloo ini was wandering round the natural history museum in london last week and saw the early man skeltons and learned about how they lived and what they ate etc and thought about the adam and eve who i was taught about at the kingdom hall that seemed to just ignore the fact that people lived many thousands of years ago and not just 6000 .
as a jehovahs witness how did you feel about early man skeltons being found and the dinosaurs etc and how did you manage to explain it in your own mind never mind to anyone else ?
i was told by an elder that if your given a plate of food and dont like something on the plate do you just leave it all ?

Was it the doctrine or the control that woke you up?
by Evidently Apostate ineven though i knew some of the doctrines were so convoluted they couldnt be genuine, every prophecy mentioned in the bible was simplistic and direct i still felt it was the best place to raise a family.
i felt like i could ignore the hypocrisy, manipulative and fake personalities and still have true friends and unbreakable family bonds.
even though my concience would bother me i would always try to forgive.

It was the inconstanties in both. We are told at every meeting how important the witness work is . That our goal is to conduct Bible studies in order to make a new deciples thus saving their lives. Yet, when my teenage son (who had been living with his dfed dad ) went away to college and soon became interested in the Bible, do you think I could get ANY help to get a JW to call on him? I first asked my elder cousin if he would help locate the KH in the city he moved to. He said he would and would also look on his "list" and send a brother . He never did and and never called back. I was brand new to the internet but found the KH myself. I found the phone # of the KH as there was no # for a person listed. Called Wed AM just before 9:00-a brother who was about to conduct the meeting for service answered. I gave him the name and address of my son and explained that he seems open to a study. The brother said "That's (the address) not our territory." "Well could you pass the info to someone reliable who IS in his territory?" "I don't know anyone."he said. I hung up with disbelief. I ended up calling my son and gave him the address of the KH. He went to meetigs for WEEKS before a nice couple offered to study with him. I should have known FS is for doughnuts not deciples.

Fade seems to be the popular choice if you can swing it. That's the plan for me..I try not to say or do anything publicly (including facebook) that could possibly be construed as "apostate" It's been close to 3 years since I've attended a meeting other than the memorial. The CO was visiting and started giving a wretched experience that included graphic details of physical violence on a child. In the middle of his sentence I got up and ran out crying. Nobody had the guts to follow me out or ask what was wrong. When I run into witnesses I almost always make the first move to talk, often give a big hug. Hard to shun or reprove someone who's so friendly!

Mr. Flipper, I too was a Beatlemaniac. I was 12, in a new school, in a strange little redneck town, misunderstood as a Witness child both by teachers and students alike. The Beatles and their music took me away from the harsh realities of my life. I had to listen to the songs away from home bc dad said their long hair and boots were homosexual. (he used a slur) Love, love, love the fab 4!

To all the posters on this board, Your thoughts, experiences, and research have helped me more than you can imagine! Until recently I was a true believer of more than 50 Yrs. As my name implies, I am third generation from BOTH parents going back to the turn of the previous century. Be assured that you never know who you might be helping and how important it is to those with various issues to know they are not alone. I'm looking forward to joining the good-natured discussions and adding my 2 cents.
