When is that crazy holy spirit gonna get it right? Especially when it directed the GB to go back to old old old lite.

Being apart has kept our family together.
by Aussie Oz insounds like an oxymoron i know!.
having just watched the danish video on youtube, i realized that because our family is not hugely close and spread out all over australia, we never went thru the shunning shit much at all.. we were never a particularly close family to my memory, mum and dad had split over the religion when i was about ten, and the relationship with the step father was tough...hard to get a step father at 14, esp a tough discaplinarian.
i left home at about 16 and a half, older brother left later i recall.

How did our parents do it?
by pbrow inhow did you bury your head in the sand when something didnt seem right but you forced this religion on your kids anyway?
i was a born in, my mother was a convert.
ill admit, before i had kids i suppressed doubts and thought "this is as close as it gets to the truth" as soon as i had kids and realized that i now had to teach this garbage to my kids w/out really believing it was enough to get me to realize the cognitive dissonance stops here.

Blues bro. makes a good point. I am a born in and was a true believer when my children were born and raised. I truely believed that this religion was like the ark was to Noah. That it would be murder on my part not to lead my children to salvation. However, I also vividly remembered the difficultys of being a JW kid so I never took anything away(holidays birthdays etc.) without replacing it with something acceptable. We constantly had outings, camp trips, Disneyland, dance lessons, season ski passes, just to name a few. Our wedding anniversary was complete with decorated cake and TONS of wrapped presents for the kids. I threw back-to-school parties, dress up parties and I could go on and on. Our cong even had a prom for the kids. I vowed that I would NEVER FORCE but explain. If they were tired or sick we stayed home from the meetings etc. This is not to say I don't regret being in the cult and trying to pass it on to the kids. I just wanted you to know some of us did our best to make it as pleasant as possible for them.

Charlie Brown. Hahaha., many of us probably DID have lunch with each other one time or another at the assemblys. Wouldn't you rather have lunch with a beer or coctail in your hand without your pantyhose or necktie and be able to be your self??? Me too! Lets all do it right this time!

by confuzzled777 inafter almost 2 years of being wrongfully disfellowshipped and over a year after finding this site....i am starting to read crisis of conscience.
i will not lie....i am a bit nervous as to what information i will find in the book.
i have a strong feeling that i will end up crying through most of it as i will start to see the truth about the "truth".

MY observation from my brief time on this board is that the WT$ is loosing/lost the only good elders who are decent, caring, and humble enough to know their limitations. Having to enforce the ridiculous and often harmful rules would be a thankless and depressing job. I was always glad that as a sister I was never expected to "reach out" for that job.

I completely understand your apprehension about what you will discover in this book. There is a reason that there is an expression "ignorance is bliss". This is because at first there is a feeling NOW WHAT? Don't worry, take things slowly, and understand that after this read you will feel an enormous burden is lifted from you. The freedom to give yourself permission to think for yourself is priceless!

Hi Mickeymouse, and iCeltic. we would loooove to have lunch with you as well! All the other names mentioned are on my favorites list too. I would like to add: Mr. and Mrs. Flipper, XYZ, and zengalileo whose haliarious antics and reports of bovine love fests at Bethel farm made me wet my pants! Shamus's thread on "Is maple syrup for true Christians" is classic. We'll try to clear our plate enough to meet up soon. BTW, I see Baalams ass every day ha ha.
