My frist email letter from my JW Dad. So sad...
by suavojr ini am in my early 30s and woke up to ttatt in late 2012. my dad just turned 65 in june!
wow, i never saw that being possible.. .
he just got himself a computer and was able to get internet in a remote location where he is serving as an elder with my mom (where the need is great) i was happy to see how he was able to send me a few notes saying hi and i was able to share some pictures of my wife and family, etc.. .

Wow! It's like two people wrote that letter. His authentic self: "Hi kiddo, how are things going?" The cult brainwashed robot: (the sermon that followed). Not a word about his grandchildren? Amaaaaaaazing and pathetic. Just so you have a ray of hope: Hubby and I didn't wake up till we were about 60.(He was also a former Bethelite and Elder) We just returned from the Tahoe Apostafest and met several more former Elders who woke up in their 60's, one was just out and appeared to be over 70!!! You never know what is bothering a JW because a "good" one won't say it out loud or even to himself. However, there is usually a "last straw" and it is different for everybody. I guess what I'm saying is it is still possible for them to change but it will take more humility than they are currently showing.

What was the Overall reaction from the world media ,to the Awake article ,may 22nd 1994 regarding "Youths Who Died Refusing Blood".
by smiddy ini , and my wife had probably left about 12 months prior to this magazine coming out , and i never at that time had any knowledge of it till many years later when i joined this site.. when i did see it , i was appalled that they could put out such an article , in a magazine they would distribute throughout the world .. to me it smacked of child abuse .
these were kids , who had no life experiences , who were far too young to make life or death choices of their own , were influenced by religous leaders who had their own agenda , and sadly by family , relatives and freinds who were indoctrinated by a man made religion that has its roots in america in the late 1800`s .. so my question is , did this episode of child abuse go under the radar of mainstream media ?
did it escape child protection agencies of the time ?.

At the time that magazine came out I had two pre-teen children. I was very busy doing my mom thing, dance lessons, slumber parties, play dates, school projects etc etc. Add to that, meetings FS, absentee husband, in-law problems, I was too distracted to really process the horror of that ragazine. BUT... I do remember CHOOSING not to use it in FS and CHOOSING to ignore the Cognitive Dissonance it produced in me. Like most JW's I coped by staying busy NOT THINKING.

Hi Skinnedsheep, Hubby and I are very glad you are no longer "stuckinamovement"! We looked for you every day at the Tahoe meet up. Really hope you can make it next year. You are wise not to define your family by Watchtower standards. Congratulations on sucessfully leaving this destructive cult!

Roll call of those of us stuck in for our spouse or whos spouse is still in!
by BU2B ini just wanted to get a feel for how many here have awakened to ttatt but are still carrying on some jw activities to pacify them and keep the peace.
also trying to hear from those who have left, but whose spouse has stayed in the wt and in the marriage.. for me it comes down to my own mental anguish.
i am mentally tortured by attending the meetings, yet i feel compelled to because my wife would kill me with her personality if i had her drag 2 small girls by herself there.

In addition, I stayed with hubby #1 for over 10 years after he was DFed the first time. (yes, there was a second time, I'm a SLOW learner) The marriage was unsustainable but neither of us wanted to be the moving party IOW the "bad guy" to our kids and onlookers. I didn't want to have to make the tough decisions about what would come next like child custody etc. Instead I just PROLONGED the AGONY. Instead of starting over when my kids were little it blew up when they were in their mid teens-sooooo much worse! After surviving the divorce and loosing my kids for a time I realized we were all STRONGER than I had thought. Please don't waste any of your precious lives. BTW, By loose the kids I mean they chose to live with their non-JW father. They were unbaptised pubs but soon left the Borg because dad was smart enough to let them have lots of "worldly" fun yet offered to drop them off at KH if they wanted.

Some of my thoughts...... I was once a staunch JW mom whose 1st husband saw TTATT but stayed in for family and business and to keep me. I realized he didn't believe even tho he only left hints. The effect on me was that even tho I stayed married to him I lost all RESPECT for him. I thought it was HYPOCRITICAL of him to warm the seat at the KH when it was obvious he was somewhere else mentally. It angered me that he was "setting a bad example for the children" by not being gung ho. I HATED it when he would plan fun things to do on Sundays to try to distract me from the meetings- I saw it as being used by Satan to keep me and the kids from everlasting life. In time he was dfed for lying about his adultry and many other vices (I thought he was wrongfully accused) Seeing how hatefully the shunning was carried out by the cong and the family actually helped me think negatively about the borg and draw me closer to him. Had he not been a sociopath we could have made it. LOL Gentlemen, you are not doing your wife and children any favors by faking it. Be loving but firm for your conscience. Give her something to admire and and if she is too blinded to appreciate you then it is her loss-move on. Children would rather be FROM a broken home than IN one.

What about leasing out your home for a year while you travel? This would be like a trial run. Furnished homes usually bring much more per month. By doing this you wouldn't be burning any bridges. I agree that your home will continue to appreciate as time goes on and if you own it free and clear the rent should give you a nice positive cash flow even after taxes and insurance. After the 1 year period you would be in a better position to know how things are working out. NEVER sell your real estate unless you absolutely have to.

T i m Tigersuit, Welcome! I am so glad to see another couple wake up together like hubby and I did. I especially love it when Elders leave. My guess is that you saw and heard things that troubled you but filed those under the catch all "Jehovah will take care of it in his due time" CoC lets the cat out of the bag that the WTBT$ is not and never has been Gods channel. However, before you kick yourself too hard it's good to read Steve Hassan's books about combatting cult mind control. Please read about the B.I.T.E method used by cults and analize whether you were under that influence. Reading his books helped keep us sane during our exit. All the best to you and your wife. Keep us posted on your journey will you?
