I have relatives who formed a witness band many years ago. They sang and played soft rock and country music. They performed at Witness gatherings and weddings. In time they developed into a darn good dance band and were hired by local resturaunts and cocktail lounges. About 9 years ago the CO came through and put an end to it. 2 of the members were elders who were given a non-choice choice: Quit the band or loose their position. I wonder how they feel about all of this? I wouldn't know bc they don't talk to me since I've become inactive.

Watchtower Takes in $2 Million Conditional Loan and Won't Return the Loan, Is it True?
by BucketShopBill ini heard several stories of the watchtower taking in loans and donations given by rich witnesses who have fallen on to hard times and asked for the money back and the watchtower won't return the money.
have you ever heard of the watchtower only paying the money back on "conditional loans" once legal experts get invovled?
one of the stories that is around is a family donated a large chunk of their nest-egg to the watchtower and the husband got sick and the branch refused to contact him when he asked for his conditional donation back, would the watchtower screw people out of their money?

What would it take to wake up a couple of devout 3rd gen JW's in their late 50's whose only goal in life was to become regular aux pios-sneers??? Sad to say false prophesys and doctrines didn't do it for us. But this was enough of a slap in the face to start the painful process. For the leaders to act as if we don't even deserve the courtesy of an answer to well written, heartfelt letters helped us to realize Watch Tower is a greedy business. Why would this story need any more documentation than any other experience people cite here? Do I need 2 witnesses?? LOL We have been asked why we didn't sue them on her behalf. The answer is simple: JW's are forbidden to sue a "brother" much less the WBT$!!! We were active believers at the time. Mom is still alive and after a long process and story the State is now picking up the cost of her care.

Listener, you got that right! A form letter from the WTBT$ is sent to the lender when the period of the loan is about to run out asking if they want to extend the loan or forgive it. The "incouragement" is for forgivness. If they want the money back they must ask for it in writing. Gullible little old ladies like my mom checked the box saying "forgive". The society held her to it even though she was legally incompetent at the time. (I had power of attorney for her and included copies of same to the society) For those of you who want proof, well sorry. A: I choose not to out hubby and myself by posting the 3 letters he wrote to headquarters chock full of our 120 year family history with WTBT$. B: The society NEVER responded to our letters. I can't produce what I don't have. After waiting a year hubby called the desk where the only answer given was verbal. The brother on the phone aknowleged recieving the letters. He simply said, "Get her on welfare". We didn't record the convo-we were still believers at the time. We were stumbled by the cavalier answer and the utter disreguard for a generious (to them) widow in need and the financial hardship it was placing on us to pay for her hospital care.

The hardhearted unChristlike refusal to return mom's loan (after 100+ years of the family making LARGE outright donations) at least helped us to wake up!

I was born in Carmel Ca. and when I was 4 my parents had a house on the ocean on the famous 17 mile drive at Pacific Grove. I had NO idea that where we lived was unique or special. Mostly these beautiful surroundings were waisted on me because our family was completely disfunctial. When I was in 3rd through 5th grades we lived in Santa Barbara. Dispite my crazy parents and the cult, I LOVED living there. The archetucture and climate are supurb! If money were no object i would return in a heartbeat and visit Tenyearsafter in nearby Montecito.

Reverse Shunning
by exwhyzee insometing happened yesterday that i thought might be noteworty enough to relate to you here.. mrs. eyz and i were invited to my new boss's home for his annual end of summer party.
it's a pretty big deal....his is a name known locally (i'll call him j.r.) a really nice interesting guy who's held a number of high level and politically connected jobs.
there was to be music, dancing, wine and reprotedly lots of well dressed, well educated, well to do and influential people (oh yes...and us) in attendance.. anyway we thought we'd make an occasion out of it and got ourselves spiffed up which involved new outfits and extra mirror time before we left home.

Ex, you asked if anyone at the boss's party could relate to your experience at Home D the answer is: Of course NOT!!! (unless they too, have left a cult) This is why this site is so important to us. We can share our JW experiences and situations knowing most posters totally "get it". Not only do we get it but we find yours inspiring. It made the Ass and me discuss what we would say and do if we ran into various people. We named names of who we would loooove to shun the way you did.

Hi Everyone!
by poopsiecakes ini haven't been here in quite a while and thought i'd pop by.
i do lurk at times, i confess lol.
after reading the recent publications at the new golden calf (jw.org), my mind is kind of blown that jw's are still not seeing through the constant adjustments, clarifications, new light and reversals.

Hi Poopsie! Nice to see you are enjoying living life cult free. I saw a movie today made in 1937 on TNT. It's a Cary Grant screwball comedy called The Awful Truth. Times change, people don't. The situations and dialogue are as funny now as they ever were.

After meeting you and the Mrs and your other son this summer we were impressed with what an incredibly lovely family you are inside and out. How the dubs could treat you the way they did astounds me. How great is it that you took control of the situation and directed it the way YOU wanted! soooo glad Mrs Ex saw the humor in the whole thing! That means you're both putting the worst behind. Yeah!!!

What will the next "witness" fad illness be??
by stuckinarut2 inas we know, it seems that many witnesses "suffer" from "illnesses" at times.. now , before anyone scolds me for being insensitive or unfeeling, i am not mocking those who really suffer from illnesses of any sort.
i am having a go at those that jump on the bandwagon of the popular illness, which actually makes real sufferers feel jaded.. i am referring to the way that many witnesses who are actually damaged as a result of the constant "fear.obsession.guilt" of jw propaganda, often seem to "contract the current illness going around", or blame it on that instead of looking at the real cause.. im sure it is a subconcious result of the burdensome pressure of jw life that brings it on.
instead of seeing the draining effect on their lives as being the result of witness life, they will latch on to the next illness going around.. so, what is the latest going to be?.
