Yes I hated it, not realizing it was often true. One cong I was in was especially fanatical about meeting attendance. I was not allowed to aux pioneer b/c I occasionally missed meetings. I had preschool children who were often sick and a DFed husband at the time. The elder who veto'd my pio request? None other than my own uncle. Encouraging huh? Missing meetings not only interupts the indoctrination but also it's how a person is TREATED when they miss that helps one to wake up.

Did it bother you that they taught, "miss a meeting and you'll fall away?"
by Wasanelder Once inhow many times did we hear that if we dont attend meetings we will leave the truth because satan will get ahold of us?
that always bothered me.
i thought, "if my faith isn't able to stand alone what good is it?

Come with me, back to the 1980s--you know want to.
by FlyingHighNow ini don't know about ya'll, but i did not appreciate the 1980s enough.
i was too busy lamenting how different they were from the 1960s and 1970s to bask in and appreciate how wonderful they were.. this is 80s music, especially new wave music, and 80s fashion and culture appreciation thread.
what did you love about the 80s?

I was in my 30's that decade. Married 13 yrs in 82 and had my first child. Lost twins in 83 and had another child in 84. Tried to be the best little Jdub mommy so my loving god wouldn't destroy my babies-ugh! did see some fab concerts though. Tom Petty, Blonde, Forigner, Journey, Hall and Oats, Men at Work, Stray Cats, Ktrina and the Waves, Timbuck3 (the Future's so Bright I Gotta wear Shades) Bad Company, Huey Lewis and the News, John (Couger) Mellencamp, Even saw a few country stars, Hank williams JR,(the only lousy performance in the bunch) The Judds,(hubby nicknamed them the jugs) and Reba Macintire (sic) I have thick naturally curly hair so in the 80's it was so big I looked like a Texas pagent queen! Haha! Can't post pics 'cause were still in fade mode but hoping someday.

Watchtower Takes in $2 Million Conditional Loan and Won't Return the Loan, Is it True?
by BucketShopBill ini heard several stories of the watchtower taking in loans and donations given by rich witnesses who have fallen on to hard times and asked for the money back and the watchtower won't return the money.
have you ever heard of the watchtower only paying the money back on "conditional loans" once legal experts get invovled?
one of the stories that is around is a family donated a large chunk of their nest-egg to the watchtower and the husband got sick and the branch refused to contact him when he asked for his conditional donation back, would the watchtower screw people out of their money?

If you have elderly parent/s who are devout JW be aware that they may think they are "loaning" their money to the WTBT$ when instead they are giving them their children/grandchildren's inheritance. Be smarter than I was, find out what your parents are doing. They might not tell you otherwise.

this is just like christendom or all the other religious organizations that they deem to be from the devil.

I have relatives who formed a witness band many years ago. They sang and played soft rock and country music. They performed at Witness gatherings and weddings. In time they developed into a darn good dance band and were hired by local resturaunts and cocktail lounges. About 9 years ago the CO came through and put an end to it. 2 of the members were elders who were given a non-choice choice: Quit the band or loose their position. I wonder how they feel about all of this? I wouldn't know bc they don't talk to me since I've become inactive.

What would it take to wake up a couple of devout 3rd gen JW's in their late 50's whose only goal in life was to become regular aux pios-sneers??? Sad to say false prophesys and doctrines didn't do it for us. But this was enough of a slap in the face to start the painful process. For the leaders to act as if we don't even deserve the courtesy of an answer to well written, heartfelt letters helped us to realize Watch Tower is a greedy business. Why would this story need any more documentation than any other experience people cite here? Do I need 2 witnesses?? LOL We have been asked why we didn't sue them on her behalf. The answer is simple: JW's are forbidden to sue a "brother" much less the WBT$!!! We were active believers at the time. Mom is still alive and after a long process and story the State is now picking up the cost of her care.
