Wow...not even sure this qualifies as a "fade"
by respectful_observer ini'm posting this both as an anecdote and also to see if, by chance, this person reads this site.
(if you do, it'd be great to catch up since you now live fairly close to me!).
i've got a friend who until very recently was actively serving as an elder in hall close to bethel, and on a body heavy with bethelites.

The Donald knows the JW's are the truth
by life is to short ini swear you just cannot make this stuff up.
i just heard from an older sister in the hall that donald's trump son-in-law bought part of the brooklyn heights compound, i think she said the 25 building but what ever.
she than went on to say and to quote her "the donald knows it's the truth.

My first MIL was a rabid JW. Every single election year she would say, "It's good (fill in the blank) got elected because he's the one who is most likely to turn on religion". She would get out a pencil and then say the age old, "We are at the tippy tippy end of the lead." Ugggghhhhh!
So this story doesn't surprise me a bit. The sad thing is MIL died years ago sad that her dream of living through the great T and into paradise didn't come true. These deluded older ones have no "Golden Years". :(

Being positively recognized
by menrov inhi, for over a year, i stopped attending meeting and field service.
actually, passively disassociated from the congregation.

A couple of years ago I was shopping when I ran into an elder and his wife from my congregation. I knew them well and had attended the book study at their house. It had been about 2 years since hubby and i had learned ttatt.
They were friendly and asked the usual "How ARE you" to which I replied fine. At the time we were actually going through a very difficult time caring for my elderly JW MIL with dementia but I didn't want to give them the satisfaction of thinking my life was hard because I "left Jehovah".
The funny thing is that they went on and on about how good I looked. Haha! "Evidently" freedom looks good on me. :)

Tv's in Kingdom hall
by dothemath inso now that the borg has taken all of the congregations money, there was just a resolution to get all new tv's, etc for the stage for the new meeting format.. i wasn't there, but it was a large sum.
somebody mentioned over 3000$.. all the congregations in the city are likely doing the same thing, and are getting all the equipment from bethel.. i was wondering if this was happening all most everywhere?.
can't see it in third world countries( might not even have internet).

She sent me 'Return to Jehovah' I sent her a Christmas card
by Xanthippe init just felt so good to say to a jw i don't feel the guilt this booklet says i must be feeling.
i don't feel guilty for having a great big christmas tree or letting my daughter have birthdays, easter eggs, dress up at halloween, have sleepovers and friends, i told her.
i only feel guilty about not contributing to live aid and bandaid and giving the money to a cult instead.

Xan, what a perfect response to her attempt at "encouragement". If anyone ever gives me a "Return" brochure I promise to do as you did!
So far not even my closest family has bothered. They prefer to shun instead.

"For sale: baby shoes, never worn"
by Simon inif you've never come across the above title before, it's considered to be the shortest novel possible.
a story, possibly a moving one, in just 6 words attributed to earnest hemingway.. it started a genre called "flash fiction" which is a memoir in six-words.. what would yours be?.
indoctrinated child found freedom, love, family.

My favorite book of all time: "The Sneetches and other Stories" by Dr Suess. All I need to know about human nature is contained therein. No kidding! -

When i was about 12 my father gave me the whole discourse about WTBT$ (meaning God's) view of rape. That unless I scream and fight till death I am guilty of fornication.
I was horrified and never really loved this Jehovah person the same again. The talk had it's desired effect though, it made a fearful and compliant child even more so.
BTW, my father waited until AFTER I was baptized to give me the talk!
