Simon, this (points up) Is probably your best post ever. Hubby and I were victims of not one but 2 illegal foreclosures during the Obama admin. We waited for Heads to roll, CEO's to be imprisoned, or at the very least fired and for reform. Ha!

So, the Womens March ... What Is It For?
by Simon init seems like mobilizing after the election, which seems pointless.
i keep hearing demands for equal rights but don't understand what rights they are missing exactly.. normally a march is to show the support (and potential votes) for a cause, but ... votes for what?
... and the election happened already.. is anyone else confused?

Bohm, My daughter is single, in her early 30's, college educated, and has a 6 figure income. She told me ahead of time that she was going to be at the Women's Parade in LA. She stated that she wanted to lend her support for Women's rights. Although we disagree on many political issues, I gave her an "atta girl" for being willing to march for what she believes.(and her right to believe it)
Then I saw the pictures she posted on Instagram and I had to chuckle. There she was, on top of a roof with a ridiculous sign standing next to a woman who was completely topless. Was she opposing the objectifying of women? Haha How can I take that seriously? She and her totally cool Hollywood friends had a great time in the fresh air and sunshine doin' crazy shit. I wish I was young and knew what I know now! :)

Then it had no clear direction and defined nothing.

Bohm, immigration is not a women's issue. If I was planning a women's march I would have a clear theme and stick to a single topic. But that's me. BTW, just because I'm a woman who is pro-choice does not mean I'm a liberal..

Furthermore: I don't consider myself a member of the left or right. I prefer to weigh things issue by issue. Likeability is not a requirement for a person to be able to accomplish a task or perform a duty. IE; I would much rather have dinner with Obama than Trump (how come neither have asked me?) but I am not better off now than I was 8 years ago. I dare say neither are minorities even though the message was HOPE. Well, faith and hope don't don't pay the rent, do they?
Simon is right when he said Trump and the republicans did not win this election. With him as their candidate, it was the Democrat's to lose..... and they did. Hopefully Trump, despite his verbal diarrhea, will do some good.

At the risk of being viewed as anti- feminist, (which is completely untrue) I have to say the op has raised a valid question. IMHO, the theme of the march was FEAR. Fear that the Trump admin. will dismantle or erode the rights women have fought for and achieved. Ok, fine but at least admit that FEAR is the driving force.
If they would have called it the "FEAR of ROW V. WADE REVERSAL" I might be inclined to participate myself. But the fabric vaginas and stupid ass signs do not invite serious discussion or dignity and respect for REAL and VALID womens issues.

Paul did not belittle women
by Doug Mason ini note the recent post that quoted 1 timothy 2:11-12 and colossians 1:23 which place women at a level that is lower to men.
the poster accused paul of this mysoginy, but that is not correct.. 1 timothy, 2 timothy, titus, colossians, ephesians and hebrews were written after paul's death.. paul was not a mysoginist; he made full use of women in leadership roles.
he wrote that in god's sight there is neither male nor female, for all are one in god's sight.. doug.

If God inspired the Bible, why didn't he prevent confusion as to exactly what the message is. Why would he allow passages or books to be included that don't belong?

As a wife who was helped to start waking up by her husband, I agree that a JW usually has to become angry about something/s in order to even THINK about hearing/reading anything critical of the borg. Finding the trigger is the key.
All my life I had seen and experienced unloving and unjust behavior by elders/servants but it wasn't until OTHER close family members were terribly mistreated that my blood started to boil enough to take an honest look at my religion. Hubby waited patiently and asked me viewpoint questions rather than TELL me facts.

Freemind, What wonderful news! Both you and Stuck are reaping the rewards of your patience. It is also a testament to your wives humility. Proud people seldom can admit they were fooled. Cheers!!!

baptised nearly 51 years

Welcome, Phoebe! Your story moved me so much. Like you, I was "born in". I was baptized a few days after I turned 12. (Jan.1964 ) My family on both sides were part of this toxic organization since about 1900
My father was a "Colporter", a "Special Pioneer", a "Congregation Servant" (PO/COBE before the elder arrangement) and an abusive alcoholic. Like you, my first memory is being terrified, In my case, I was about 3 yo, uncontrollably sobbing during the dark car ride home from the KH where I had wiggled in my seat. My father had pointed his finger at me and whispered you're going to "get it" when we get home! I knew the beating with his belt that awaited me. My mother was silent as he would shout, "hush up or the beating will be worse". I also remember crouching in my room praying for Jehovah to help me when the fighting between my parents was unbearable.
It's not that other unfortunate children haven't experienced these difficulties, it's that this horrible home life is compounded by having to be JW in school. The weirdo who isn't allowed to be like the other kids because GOD HATES everybody and everything that isn't JW. A child should not have to be afraid of abuse and abandonment. I too, have PTSD. Isn't it ironic that an organization which attracts/causes so much pathology strongly discourages therapy? What are they afraid we will discover? Could it be they want us to remain terrified, compliant, and gullible?
Congratulations on your hubby and children being out. At least you don't have them shunning you! Congratulations too, on finding this site. I know the people and ideas here will be of great support and comfort to you. Keep reading, posting, and be assured of our love.
