What did being a JW teach you?

these are some of the things the wbt$ 'taught' me:.

dishonesty is fine if it's to trick people into joining the cult.. if your spouse stops believeing, the best thing you can do is break up the family.. the laws of the governing body overrule any other laws...or else!.

my friends are conditional.. avoid loving people, they'll only let you down or get df'd.. unintelligent dumbos are better than intelligent ones if the dumbos are elders or above.. hate is better than love.. i am not good enough and god will probably enjoy killing me.. demons will appear in my room at night.. ignore practicallity if being practical or loving prevents the leaders getting money or praise.. god hates.

In addition to the things mentioned by the other posters as a JW I learned that:

The true God demands that I let my children die rather than allowing a life saving blood transfusion.

If I cave and allow it, God will destroy both the kids AND me.

If you genuinely need help you will not receive it even if you offer to pay.

The WTBTS refused to pay back a relatively small loan to an elderly faithful (to them) widow even though she had donated millions of $$.

My ex was appointed an elder even though at the time he was an adulterer, abused alcohol and illegal drugs, and a criminal. (I didn't find out until 24 years later) The Holy Spirit missed it too.

Pedophiles get promoted as well.

The USA will elect a new president. His/her election will be proof positive that the world is going to hell in a hand basket and a sign of how close we are to the end.

He/she is THE one Jah will use to turn on religion. This is not me talking here it is the holy spirit.

CO visit; going to meeting.

hello everyone!just a little background info, i haven't been to a meeting in over a year.

my wife has asked me to go with her tonight to help watch our son since it's the circuit overseers visit...my wife wants to be able to pay attention and get something out of the meeting since our son is 1yr old he can be a handful some times.. a few things of note about the situation:.

- i'm going to the meeting no matter what.

SG098, Thanks for the update. I'm with those who suggest you babysit your son at home. Saves you and your baby a lot of hassle and helps to keep him from becoming indoctrinated later.

Witness wedding questions

just wondering about witness weddings and what is and isn't acceptable these days.

i know that toasts are a no-no, but i'm wondering about other things, such as:.

is it ok to have a best man?.

The person giving the wedding talk is supposed to quiz the bride and groom whether or not their courtship was *chaste*.

If the KH is used ALL in the wedding party must be in *good standing* including private reproof.

Don't know about confetti but I attended a JW wedding where the guests were given little vials of bubbles. The kind with the wand you blow through. It was a first for me. (It was held outdoors).

in my country one can get dfd for pretty much anything the bullies want to df you for.

but is there any specific guidelines that state one can or cannot be dfd for marrying a non witness.

Yes Kate, the point of my story above is that while someone may not be DFed for dating a non baptized person in and of itself, IF they don't STOP when told and act repentant, it snowballzz into the new and improved term "Brazen Conduct." At that point the accused is toast.

About 10 years ago a sweet 40 something widowed sister from my cong was DFed. Let me give some of the facts so it can be known how heartless elders can be.

The sister had been married to a brother and had 3 lovely baptized children. He was killed in a car accident coming home from the KH. The family was devastated. The sister was practically catatonic for years. Then at work she met a nice "worldly" man and they went bicycling a few times. Someone saw her with him on the bike trail and reported her to the elders. They called a JC committee.

She told the brothers she had done nothing wrong. They said she was dating a non believer and admonished her to stop immediately. She continued to ride her bike.... with him. Thus, more JC meetings where she said "but I've done nothing wrong." She was "unrepentant and walking disorderly" which is why she was DFed.

The silver lining to this story. She married the nice man, moved out of town, never set foot in a KH again and is living happily ever after. :)

Beards galore at the Assembly

ok, at our recent assembly, i noticed that there were quite a lot of brothers wearing beards.

not just the older dudes, but right across a range of ages, young men, middle aged men and older men.

is watchtower beginning to relax this rule at last?
