Stillin and Freddo, Thanks. In my family, if a relative is not an EXEMPLARY JW he/she is garbage.
Nice to know that all those decades of sitting at the KH have produced such Christ-like disciples. LOL

Hi friends,
It's been awhile since I've been talkative. Thought I'd give you an account of my latest family dysfunction.
A brief backstory is that I am an only child whose parents were born in JW's. Hubby and I took care of my twice widowed mother until we were bankrupt financially and emotionally. Mom, being the rabid JW she was, was never satisfied with me my entire life. Even pioneering didn't please her because "You need to move where the need is great". Criticism was her only form of communication.
She spent her last years in a rest home 3 hrs from me so she could be with 2 of her siblings there. Visits to see her were emotionally draining. She would try everything she could to guilt me about something.
The last time I saw her she was in her late 90's. When I had to tell her for the umteenth time she couldn't come home with me because we were unable to care for her any longer, she reached into her pants and threw her own excrement at me. I ran out of her room crying and she followed me down the hall and threw two more turds in my direction!
It was then I mourned her loss. I never saw her again and the rest of her family have cut me out of their lives for years. In early Oct. I got a voicemail from mom's SIL:" Your mom passed away. We will be having a memorial service for her on Saturday. If you want more information you can call me." Mind you, she didn't give the time or town this was to occur.
Hubby called the rest home and found out that she had died almost a WEEK EARLIER! and that they and the mortuary people had been told by a few "people from the church" that she had NO children!
I am not nor have ever been DF'd DA'd. I have never said or implied anything "Apostate" to anyone other than this forum. YET....This is the fruitage of Watchtower. Just thought you might find it mildly revealing.

Aid to Bible Understanding - can you help summarise any useful sections?
by Fernando inrandall watters presents the fascinating backstory of the "aid book", and the brouhaha surrounding it, in this article:.
"the watchtower bible and tract society: the critical years 1975-1997".
so far it seems the project to research and write the "aid to bible understanding" revealed serious doctrinal and institutional flaws that the gb wanted to preserve nonetheless.. it seems what ray franz and his team were learning, and were largely blocked from presenting:.

Thanks, Sparky. Wow! I forgot that they didn't say bestiality was perverted. Just that it's scripturally condemned. There are countless stories of Bethelites romancing each other as well as the animals on the farm. No wonder they had a hard time calling it adultery!
To think so many of us made life and death decisions based on the whims of these idiots! (((((shudder))))))

We put our copies of the Aid and Insight books in the recycle bin so I can't cite the page number but under the subject, "Divorce" the Aid book states that while they are "perversions" bestiality and homosexual acts by one's mate are NOT "Scriptural" grounds for divorce. (I kid you not!)
I know more than one sister who was stuck with being single until Watchtower policy changed.

I found some old boxes of books and memorabilia from my stepfather. Among the items were letters asking Covington for help with the draft board (WWII) who were trying to deny his ministers classification despite his name being printed in the July 9 1941 issue of Consolation magazine under the list of WTBTS Ordained Ministers.
Covington's responses were pretty lame, basically saying "Just show the board your name in the magazine". Jerk
The good news is that hubby and I are selling his carefully preserved JW stuff on E-Bay and so far the bidding is brisk. :)

Jehovah protects his people. Did he ever protect you?
by TimeBandit inhello forum.
i started this topic because i had been thinking recently about a story that i had heard many times in different congregations over the years.
kind of a jw urban legend if you will.

TB, I have no way of knowing. If the story was repeated through the JW rumor mill it was by others she may have told or my dad who was much more outgoing and was a buddy of Knorr and Jaracz.
For the record, this experience happened about 1961 or 1962. My take on it now is that dogs are very good at sensing malice. Since she was sincere in her work and a female the dogs thought she would be welcome by the lady of the house.

TB, from the time I was a little kid my mother told me an experience she had while going door to door. She was working in an exclusive rural area in Santa Barbara Ca. The house was a mansion on a hill with a long winding driveway. (Mom didn't weigh 100 lbs soaking wet)
As her story goes, she started to walk up the driveway alone. When she got about halfway up two large Doberman dogs ran toward her. She was TERRIFIED! She said a quick prayer and what do you know? One dog got on her left side and the other her right side and gently escorted her up to the doorstep. The lady of the house looked shocked and exclaimed, "How did you make it up to to my door???!!! These are guard dogs trained to attack intruders!"
Mom said the angels must have protected her.... and i bought it. :(
