  What I found disturbing about the Eloi was that one minute they were happily engaged in normal human life then as soon as the siren went they became totally different people. Contrast this with the quite normal JW who suddenly takes on a new personality come the time for Kingdom Hall attendence or door-to-door preaching as she/he is subject to an irrestible force beckoning her/him.

  snare&racket, good points. One of the things I would say to any loyal JWs is that it is imperative that any one who truly wants to know the truth about any matter must never be a dependant thinker. This also applies for those who wish to be truth seekers outside of the organization. Don't rely on one source or one community for your info. I sense that some people jump from the 'frying pan' into the 'fire' by simply exchanging one belief system for another (and this does not have to be what we might call religious) because it appears to have more believers, 'experts' etc. I take my hat off to all truly independent thinkers for having the courage to stand alone if needs be rather than take the easy option of joining some group with a ready-made solution to the questions of life and the universe.

  How can anyone claiming to be part of Yahweh’s people so blatantly disregard his “eternal laws”?

  given the priestly writer's strict adherence to circumcision as the covenantal sign by which one belongs to yahweh as his people, is heir to the promise of the land, and can partake in yahweh's festivals such as the passover---all "eternal laws" expressed through yahweh's mouth!---we might rightly be able to grasp the seriousness of the charges laid against paul by the jerusalem church in allowing uncircumcised males into the covenant, into the passover feasts, and into the inheritance of the land (galatians).. paul's complete disregard for the priestly writer's beliefs, the "eternal covenant of circumcision" as the priestly writer put it, is blasphemous we might say toward this specific text, the author who wrote it, and most importantly this author's conception of yahweh!

  it is no coincidence that the historical record has shown that paul's form of "christianity" was rejected by the jews, and rightly so since it also rejected the torah of moses!

  Actually I have some issues with 'Paul' too. One of which is that he got Timothy circumcised out of concern for the sensibilities of certain Jews (Acts 18:1-3), and yet he opposed Peter on the matter of Peter's showing concern for the sensibilities of certain other Jews (Galatians 2:11-14) - although of course Peter's actions were nowhere near as drastic!

  The Governing Body Are Vicars

  if salvation is not possible except thru the governing body, however qualified that idea might be, it still would make them agents, substitutes, or 'stand ins' acting for god/christ.. by definition, they have declared themselves to be vicars.

  collectively, they have adopted a title - "faithful slave' - no different from christendom/jews doing so, with 'father', reverend, rabbi or so on.. wrong if one person does it?

  is it wrong for two?

  These two clips from the movie 'The Matrix' represent for me two parts of my life out of the WT organization. The first took place over twelve years ago when I realised that my life (from childhood up) had been based on an illusion; it was for me quite a difficult thing to deal with. The second clip represents me now in my deprogrammed state, where the WT organization has absolutely no power over me. I feel sure that many here feel the same way.

  why is the 15 july 2013 watchtower so important?
