Why should they care what someone else believes?
Anyone else care to jump on this one? Aha.
there isn't one and that's a really good thing.

Aha, of course you are not talking about "their own rules" you are talking about how gullible human beings are when tyrants are in charge (illustrated excellently in the Bible). These weren't "their own rules" these were rules they set so that they control millions of people. I think an excellent exapmle of people using their own rules would be someone along the lines of
John Lennon
Martin Luther King Jr.
Mahatma Ghandi
etc.
And I don't know if you've ever read "Night" by Elie Wiesel, or seen any films concerning the Holocaust, but most Jews in the beginning believed that God was condemning them for wrongdoing, or that God would save them from the horror. This mindset is illustrated greatly in "Night", and how eventually most came to the realization that God either 1) did not care about the Jews or 2) God was never there in the first place. This is the main reason the Jews never revolted, they believed God would do something about it... I mean how could God allow 6 million people to be killed simply because of their heritage and religion? One Ghetto, the Warsaw Ghetto eventually fought back. There were about 400 to 1,000 of them and they survived for around 6 months. Imagine if they had never believed that God would save them. Imagine how many would be alive today.

Art without rules is not art. It's called therapy.
..........................O_o
And PSac, can you explain how that would be a dangerous path?
i have posted this on another forum where i mentor on spirituality and i am posting here again.. when things like spirituality are no longer present in one's life, they may or may not stop looking for meaning.
meaning is an essential part of human psychology, though some feel the need for it less than others, and even a few seemingly don't at all.
there also seems to be a trend that occurs: in the lack of a meaning of life, the brain tries to find one, because it sees a purpose for everything.. .
^^^^^^ exactly what I was going to say
there isn't one and that's a really good thing.

As I said, we are not talking about producing a certain pitch or note on a guitar. We are talking about the general "rules for instruments". But if you want to discuss this fine. Guitars have an unlimited amount of possibilities when concerning producing notes. I can utilize alternate tunings (no limit to this amount, certain alternate tunings have yet to be found) to produce notes on other frets. I can also utilize something like a pen, marker, or bottle to raise the strings, thus producing different pitches in different areas, you can utilize a capo, you can play a chord using different strings then the strings that correspond with prescribed note, the possibilites are endless. You can even combine them all.

There is no such thing as a rule IN ART. Forgot that part.

We aren't talking about notes, we are talking about "basic rules of instruments", in which there are NONE. You can strum a piano, cello, violin, turn them into electric instruments, slap an upright bass.
"One of a set of explicit or understood regulations or principles governing conduct within a particular activity or sphere."
Exactly. There exists nothing of that sort in art. I've played guitars that had an E-string as a D string. There is no such thing as a RULE.

And yes, even musicians follow the basic rules of their instruments.
And you speak from what authority?
Sonic Youth guitarists enjoy rubbing baseball bats up and down their guitar strings, which creates quite an excellent sound. Jimmy Page enjoyed playing his guitar with a bow at certain times. Exactly what rules of instruments are we talking about?

That is not a rule, it is a fact, PSac. You may not be able to produce orange from black and purple, correct. But a rule is something that binds you from doing something that is POSSIBLE.
