Differences between Christians and Jehovah’s Witnesses

christians believe that the temple of jesus’ body was torn down and raised again on the third day, thus fulfilling the scriptures.. jws, on the other hand, believe that jesus is the created being, michael the archangel, manifest in the flesh, and that although he became a man and underwent physical death, he was not physically raised from the dead.. christians read jesus’ words: “truly, truly, i say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.“ therefore, christians partake in communion.. jws, on the other hand, have a yearly ritual ceremony in which they publicly reject communion.

they make a public spectacle of refusing the new covenant.. christians believe that salvation is monergistic - that god works through the holy spirit to bring about the salvation of an individual through spiritual regeneration, regardless of the individual's cooperation.

Food for thought:

God created time and space when the universe came into being;
JWs admit that the universe was created through the pre-incarnate Jesus;

So do JWs believe the pre-incarnate Jesus was outside time and space? If so, he is eternal. In order to argue against this, they need to answer the question: When was he created, if he himself was not bound by time and space? (If they are intellectually honest, the answer will be “he has existed from eternity past.”)

If JWs argue that the pre-incarnate Jesus was bound by time and space, then how was it created through him? How could he be bound by his own creation? This is a contradiction, because a created being bound by time and space cannot create time and space. Yet many JWs say they believe the Big Bang Theory - that it was the creation of the universe by God - and that time and space begin at the Big Bang. So where was Jesus? Did he come before or after the Big Bang?

To the contrary of what JWs teach, Hebrews chapter 1 says this about Jesus:

“You, Lord, laid the foundation of the earth in the beginning,

and the heavens are the work of your hands;

they will perish, but you remain;

they will all wear out like a garment, like a robe you will roll them up,

like a garment they will be changed.

But you are the same, and your years will have no end.”

(Hebrews 1:10-12)

Christians believe that salvation is monergistic - that God works through the Holy Spirit to bring about the salvation of an individual through spiritual regeneration, regardless of the individual's cooperation. It is a free gift that cannot be earned through good works or by refraining from sinning, or anything else that originates from one’s self. Salvation begins and ends with God alone - from God, through God and for God alone.

JWs believe that salvation is synergistic - that salvation is achieved through a combination of human will and divine “undeserved kindness” (I would even argue that JWs lean more toward human will than a number of other synergistic faiths). JWs believe that a person must first clean themselves up and make themselves pleasing to God first before he will accept them. Then they must maintain their own salvation to the very last day, and every time they slip up, they lose their salvation and must clean themselves up again in order to earn back their salvation.

These are just a few differences between Christians and Jehovah’s Witnesses. Can you think of some other major theological differences?

jws are mistaken when they believe the bible teaches:.

1. that their leaders somehow represent the faithful and wise servant.

That Jesus is a creature and not God in the flesh.

That the Holy Spirit is an “impersonal active force” and not a person.

That salvation is by works (cleaning one’s self up so you can become a Jehovah’s Witness, making sure you put in enough field service hours, meeting attendance, mustering up the willpower to keep yourself morally pure, etc.) - and NOT by grace (alone) through faith (alone) in Christ (alone).

Don’t they know they could sound a lot more convincing if those guys that the goofy guy with the big mouth interviewed just spoke from the heart, naturally and unscripted?

Everything in that video was staged and every word spoken was painfully scripted and read from a teleprompter. It makes the video seem so cultish, especially after watching so many unscripted live news interviews lately because of what’s going on.

2020 Memorial - No Need To Actually Have The Emblems

over at jw talk they're saying because they're having to hold the upcoming memorial at home, they dont need to actually have the emblems.

apparently, listening to or watching the talk is the thing that counts.. "do this in rememberence of me" apparently means watching tony morris on your phone give a talk.. this begs the question... "what's the point?

Yeah, I noticed that too. My uber-dub sister sent me an email about the U.N coming for religion and it had the words "peace and security" in it. She was absolutely giddy about, "this is it. You better get back to the organization."

I got a text message from a relative yesterday with a link to this news article:

Sexual Morality In The Old Testament Differs From That In The New Testament

conservative christians like the jehovah's witnesses often claim that, like the new testament, the old testament forbids all sexual relations outside marriage, including relations between unmarried people.

that is not quite true.

to see that patriarchal and israelite culture adhered to a different standard, we must first understand just how the old testament treats marriage, sexuality and related items.. the old testament view of women as property.

JW’s teach moralism from the Old Testament that has nothing to do with Christ.

Real Christians teach that the entire Old Testament is pointing to Christ and man’s need for a savior. Christians distinguish between “moralism” and “morality.” One is anti-gospel, the other is a byproduct of the gospel.

i don't think i shared this story yet, it's strange and although i did a little detective work trying to figure out who said what and when i never found out much, big surprise, jehovah's witnesses love their secrets as we all know... but i thought other posters might find this interesting both in and of itself, because of what an elder told me one sunday back in 2011, and because of what it could imply as to high-ranking jehovah's witnesses prophesying the date of armageddon.

specific dates went out the window in 1975, although governing body helper ken flodin hinted at 2040 in a talk uploaded to jw.org a couple years back, and the governing body hinted at 2034 in a watchtower back in the 90s.

but it might be, just might, that more specific date-setting still goes on behind closed doors in certain circuits.... so after i went to "meetings" and talked to witnesses for a couple years at a rural congregation in the eastern united states an elder pulled me aside one service into the vestibule at the hall, in other words, into a private area where no one would overhear us.
