The problem of sex (or why I'm not an atheist)

as i write this under the shadow of the walls of saint jorge's castle in lisbon, two very bored jws are standing just five metres away from me with a literature cart .... in my journey away from jwism i accepted evolution as a fact.

i also became anti-religion, agnostic and apatheist.

and, while i lean towards the persuasion of the atheist arguments, there are a few reasons that make it difficult for me to completely discard the notion of an intelligent origin of life.

an assembly manual compiled of a hodgepodge of a dozen different (poorly translated) languages, egregious spelling mistakes, pages out of order, random text upside down, outdated code, dead end or useless instructions, and some of the worst examples of grammar you've ever seen.

Funny about this lot, with all these stupidities, it actually works. Even "a hodgepodge of a dozen different (poorly translated) languages," comprising of information, need to be compiled by an intelligent mind. That's how languages work. These would fall under the laws of information. There is no such thing as "junk" DNA. You were an embryo before you were born. A lot of it was used then, and not again. And if it is that simple, why don't you come up with exactly how it works, clever boy. Why don't you improve on the recipe then to make it better? Put your money where you're mouth is.

Eden, if you can believe any of the above, you can just as well believe in God and the Bible. These actually make more sense. Think of DNA as a manual of how to build a cell/organism. In time minor changes (or mutations) could occur, changing the manual. Major changes (or mutations) would kill off the organism. The manual, as information, cannot arise by itself, from organic or inorganic matter. You need someone to write the manual and its applications.

So how would the sexes originate? The manual needs to be written (programmed) for that. The question is: Who wrote the manual? What the evolutionists are saying: Archaea (basic or simplified organisms) > Eucharyotes (complex organisms) > colony formation > multicelluar organisms > male/female organisms. How would they prove their theory? How would they be able to demonstrate such changes? Archaea > male and female mammal (and everything in between). So far they have been unsuccessful. Wishful thinking if you ask me.

I rather suspect that you know you didn't answer it and are hoping that using a very specific example will deflect away from that.
I will ask another question, why should anyone believe what you have to say about micro-biology?

Caedes, I actually went to the trouble of checking your last few contributions towards the thread in case I missed something. Actually, I missed nothing. So do follow Cofty's advice and contribute something constructive. If you are incapable of doing that, we'll understand. Not all have good communication skills.

Yes, it's a big problem. Imagine treating one of the flesh eating bacteria or TB which are resistant to all known antibiotics. What do you think the prognosis of such a patient would be? I do believe some doctors, especially GPs, are plain stupid, just like you, Viv. Hilarious indeed! You can ridicule all you want, but it's no joking matter.

And thank you Viv, you are a wonderful example of an evolutionist with a bad attitude, trying your best to demean and belittle those that do not share your beliefs. What was that about moving the goalposts and treating the other team as though they do not exist?

Landy, perhaps one should ask a doctor that question. I don't know why they prescribe antibiotics when patients present with cold or flu symptoms. I know for a fact they do it in my part of the world. I always thought their treatment would be more effective if they first sent in a sputum, nose or throat swab to the lab. There it would be cultivated on blood plates aerobically (for gram negatives, e.g. Klebsiella and Pseudomonas and gram positives, e.g., Staph), anaerobically (e.g., gram negatives: Haemophilus, Neisseria and gram positives: Strep) as well as for fungi (e.g., Aspergillus) and yeast (Candida). The latter two are cultivated on a special yeast plate. ZN stain for TB is done routinely on all sputums. If any one of the above bacteria are cultivated, sensitivities are done. Only then should an antibiotic be administered. Antibiotics would also not be effective againt the fungis and yeasts.

Landy, rather give a sugar-coated pill as placebo. And wait for secondary infection, then prescribe the antibiotic. Perhaps the person gets over the flu without a secondary infection. Then an antibiotic would have been unnecessary.

There's a saying: Do not thrown your pearls before the swine. However, as a deluded, wannabee Microbiologist I have the need to be recognized. Also I am a glutton for punishment, so here goes:

Viv, think, read thread, think again (it will be a wonderful new experience for you). Yes, doctors are still prescribing antibiotics for flu. They have been doing it 25 years ago, and they are still doing it. Yes, I know, they are wrong, but they are doing it. Google it and look up the following article:

By the way, what does "faux" mean? Sounds French, falcon perhaps? Don't worry, I've got it. It probably comes from "faux pas" as a social blunder, i.e., blundering Microbiologist.

Don't worry, Cofty and his fellow muckrakers have established, with the help of evolutionary science, that I am no Microbiologist. So that solves that problem. But I have to point out, no matter how much muck you rake or stir, life will not originate from it even if it contains all the ingredients. Life comes from existing life. That fact has been proved by science.

Life spontaneously generates from non-living compounds, organic or inorganic. That fact has not been proved by science. It's an unproven theory. Although a gram stain of faeces is a zoo of bacteria and yeasts, these did not spontaneously generate. They were there in your gut and in the gut of animals to start off with. It is passed on to you by your mother.
