Three pillars of the theory
New Testament scholar Robert M. Price, who argues it is quite likely there never was an historical Jesus in the sense that the Gospel version is in essence a composite character and therefore unable to be reasonably verified as a single historical person, [ 36 ] writes that the Jesus myth theory is based on three pillars:
- There is no mention of a miracle-working Jesus in secular sources.
- The Pauline epistles, earlier than the gospels, do not provide evidence of a recent historical Jesus.
- The story of Jesus shows strong parallels to Middle Eastern religions about dying and rising gods, symbolizing the rebirth of the individual as a rite of passage.
Price writes that Christian apologists have tried to minimize these parallels. [ 37 ] In Deconstructing Jesus, Price argues that, unlike Alexander the Great, Caesar Augustus, Cyrus, and King Arthur, Jesus has no residue that does not fit the myth cycle nor is he intricately woven into the history of the time. Price concludes that "Jesus must be categorized with other legendary founder figures including the Buddha, Krishna, and Lao-tzu. There may have been a real figure there, but there is simply no longer any way of being sure.” [ 38 ]

What's Everyone's Favorite JW "Urban Legend?"
by Jaypeeto inmy personal favorite, popular in my area in 1982, was the story that little plastic "smurf" dolls were biting the ankles of hapless witness moms who had bought the demonic toys for their little children.
does everyone have a favorite laugh-out-loud jw urban legend?
please share!.

How about the warlock barber who was cutting a Witnesses' hair and told him the demons were targetting Witness kids because Jehovah killed their children with the great flood?

Do You Agree That Being A JW=Never Growing To Your Full Potential?
by minimus insoooo many witnesses that i knew of had great potential to be somebody, to do something in their lives and instead, they simply existed in a way of life that never really ever gave them back anything in return.
so sad, when you think of the waste!.

The "Dark Ages" refers to a period of time in Europe, roughly between the 5th and 15th centuries, in which no one pursued knowledge. The reason for this is because a Pope declared that pursuing anything other than salvation was a complete waste of time. Art, medicine, and science came to a hault because the church declared such things a waste of time.
Sound familiar?
How can you reach your full potential when you are taught that such a pursuit would be a waste of time and show a lack of faith? That reality is not "the real life" and that you cannot reach your potential or experience "the real life" until after a mythical, world changing event. How can you reach your full potential when you are taught that personal searches for knowledge are forbidden and everything you need to know will be given to you once a month in a magazine written by clueless men in Brooklyn, New York?

I just noticed, with the 6/15 WT last year, they 'apostasised" themselves
by EndofMysteries inup to the 10/95 awake it had on the fine print about the generation of 1914, it was erased from then on.
the 11/95 watchtower then said this on page 17, "eager to see the end of this evil system, jehovah's people have at times speculated about the time when the "great tribulation" would break out, even tying this to calculations of what is the lifetime of a generation since 1914. however, we "bring a heart of wisdom in," not by speculating about how many years or days make up a generation..... .
so they pretty much blame the membership for believing that those alive since 1914 or what makes the generation on them for believing, even though they themselves had taught it.

Don't forget; if you vocalized the current belief of what a "generation" is prior to it being put into print by the evil empire you would be disfellowshipped for being an apostate.

Love is the identifying mark of true christians. If you do not show love to your spiritual brothers or fellow man you are not a true christian. Christ cannot fault you for showing love.
Men can, and do, however...

If you were a born-in, like me, you can blame your parents. Raised in the evil empire and guilted into baptism at age 15. I bought into it all until I was right around 30 (I was a company man ministerial servant from age 19).
Due to my career choice, I could have really used the extra 10 years. Not to mention I regret never enlisting in the military.

What did Jesus mean at Matthew 10:34-36?
by serenitynow! in"do not suppose that i have come to bring peace to the earth.
i did not come to bring peace, but a sword.
for i have come to turn a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law a man's enemies will be the members of his own household.".

Look at the Jewish culture at the time those words were allegedly spoken. Children were to growup, marry, have kids of their own and keep the family farm/business going. This is a complete 180 of how those who were part of "The Way" allegedly lived.
Those who made up the first congregation allegedly sold all their belongings, pulled their resources, and lived like a hippy commune so that they could publicly preach. After all, they were living in the last days. The end was nigh.
I'm sure that really pissed off a lot of parent and in-laws. In a sense, it was a lifestyle completely opposite of how they were raised. However, Jesus did not say, "For whomever refuses to shun their family members because they are non-believers shall not inherit the kingdom."
