When you come to the realization that immortality/everlasting life is a fabricated concept used to control the behavior of mankind it gets easier.
The important this is to accomplish your life goals and obtain your desires in the now.
i've been a lurker here and an inactive jw for a number of years.
i've always had some annoying doubts but brushed it aside but over the last few years i've had time to "think" away from the wt.
perhaps there is no paradise, maybe no god and this life is all there is.

after spending a lifetime in it, no one is as fed up with the wt as i am.
[my golf game would have been a hell of alot better if i was'nt banging my head against the wall on saturdays!
lol ] this forum has taught me alot more than i thought to confirm my suspicions.
Basic Bible Truths?
I was born in, a Ministerial Servent from age 19 and left in my thirties. Here's where I am now: On a good day I'm an agnostic, but most days I am an aethiest. I came to be that way to studying the topic of religion and using sources other than those of the Watch Tower.
I do know this: The New World Translation is a horrible translation of the Bible. That most of Jehovah's Witnesses' teachings are based on the words of Paul and not Jesus. In fact, if you only accepted the Gospel accounts and through out the rest of the Bible, you would see just how unchristian Jehovah's Witnesses are.
Religion is manmade. It is a tool to control the masses.
i was heading home today, and i saw one woman reading a new world translation.
we made eye contact, but i hope i didn't glare at her or anything... since i was already having a bout with depression today, it didn't help to see her.
so then she gets off the train, right?
I can understand your pain, brother. Your spouse is supposed to be your best friend, but it would appear that her imaginery friend and a publishing company are more important to her. Her psychological warfare, invented and approved by the Watch Tower Society, is supposed to win you with out a word. However, it is just causing a casm and is the source of your depression.
I assume you still love your wife, and I can completely understand that. I think that a little psych-op of your own is called for. Remember; Jehovah's Witnesses advocate that the only way a person can achieve happiness is to slave for their organization. Prove them wrong!
Nature abhors a vacuum. When you left the religion you created a void. I like the suggestion about volunteering your time. Pick a good and humane cause to get involved in. Go volunteer at your local soup kitchen or homeless shelter. Then share all the stories of how you helped your fellow man and how it brought you happiness with your wife. Magazines that speak of a magical place and time in the future when there will be no hunger do not make the hunger pains of today go away. The fact of the matter is that Jehovah's Witnesses are heartless bastards who use the "kingdom" as an excuse to ease their guilt. Even Jesus fed the hungry (e.g. loaves and fishes).
The bottom line is you have to be happy. Then show your wife that happiness exists outside of that doomsday cult.
after leaving the jehovah's witnesses, i started getting in to politics.
i naturally found myself going republican and voted a long those lines.
however, with my more pagan nature and being pretty much against christianity.
"American citizens have voted, they are in favor of taxing the rich while they accept some just hardships to solve the debt issue."
I gross $53,000.00 a year. My FICA tax went up 2% on January 1st, 2013. Does that mean I am "rich". Oh, wait; EVERYONE'S payroll tax went up.
seems they liked using that fallacy a lot--.
president obama has an, at times, well-deserved reputation for delivering his speeches well.
certainly, the president made an impression today when he delivered his second inaugural address calling for a bolder, more expansive government that would be committed increasingly to the principles of liberalism, with characteristic soaring rhetoric.. unfortunately, another characteristic was also in evidence in obama's speech: namely, his tendency to argue against positions that nobody holds (and by extension, to mischaracterize his opponents' views so as to make them easier to argue against).
The President's powers are limited. Any real change comes through legislature. Our legislators have more power to make change.
while i discard the notion of god as described in the bible ,and which would also include the islamic and judean religions as they have similar roots ,i do concede their are things i do not know , that occur, which i cant explain , whether they be attributed to the paranormal ,ufo`s ,ghosts ,phsysic phenomena ,poltergeists ,or whatever .it is well attested their are occurences which defy explanation .. we know as human beings we are born and we die in the flesh .. what if their was some truth in the scripture" you will be all changed in a twinkling of an eye" going from a fleshly creature to a spiritual creature ?
i find their are part truths, half truths ,truths of ommission , old truths ,new truths , and truths that are yet to be revealed .with the wtb&ts.
so is their a possibility of our continuing on in a spiritual existence ?
I've thought about looking into Buddahism. In the meantime, I hail Thor Odinson.
after leaving the jehovah's witnesses, i started getting in to politics.
i naturally found myself going republican and voted a long those lines.
however, with my more pagan nature and being pretty much against christianity.
After leaving the evil empire, I also got involved in politics. I have been a campaign advisor on multiple elections. I also am a Republican. I live in a conservative state in the most conservative county. No democrat has held any office in my county in over 20 years.
I also agree with the original poster. As a born-again aethist/agnostic, the Christianity portion of the conservative Republicans annoys the hell out of me. However, the fiscal conservatism and limited government philosophies I support 100%.
I believe that Mitt Romney was the absolute worst of all the Republican presidential candidates for the 2012 election cycle. I agree with most of Phil Ryan's political views, except his social ones. I am outraged at the Republican party for handing the voters that turd of a ticket.
What upsets me the most is the bait-and-switch tactics used by the democrats to win the presidential election. Sure, it worked, but let's get serious; Our country is in financial shambles and the main topic of discussion is birth control? 16 trillion in debt and climbing, millions unemployed, more and more Americans going on welfare, and the spotlight moves to birth control?
When I actually went to the polls to vote I almost voted for the Libertarian presidential candidate. Call me a fool, but Herman Cain spoke more to me than Mitt Romney. Our U.S. Tax Code needs to be scrapped and the Federal Reserve and its fiat monetary systems needs to be eliminated.
Here's the reality; in 2014 we'll see another polar shift like we saw in 2010. Remember, the Office of the President has power, but the true power lies with the legislative branch of government. Presidential executive orders are not and will never be law. Just like social issues favored the democrats in the presidential race, look for 2nd Amendment issues push more Republicans into legislative office come November 2014.
so i have another visit from the elder this week.
this time they want to speak with my wife, still a believer and myself.
i think they want to know my position about my children attending the meetings and some other things.. while preparing myself for it i though of a challenge for the elders and my wife.
Elders do not meet with people to have a two-way conversation. They have one purpose: Tell you how it is and make sure you openly declare that you belive it is The Truth tm . Make no mistake; failure to do so will be interpreted as openly opposing The Truth tm and they will mark you as an apostate.
What I find interesting is the over 20 years ago my father was disfellowshipped for apostacy. He was asked in a judicial committee "Who is the Faithful and Discreet Slave" which he answered all of the remaining annointed ones on earth. He was asked, "Do you consider yourself a part of the Slave Class" which he answered "yes" as he professes to be of the annointed. He was DFed for that. That was back when the Watch Tower Society published that the Faithful & Discreet Slave was indeed the remaining annointed ones on earth. Even back then it was the unwritten belief that the Governing Body and only the Governing Body is the Faithful and Discreet Slave.
this particular article was discussed or touched on a couple months ago regarding the wt society's statement concerning jw's putting " jehovah above everything else- including the family bond " .
so i won't address those points in this thread, but there are many other points to address where the wt society uses guilt and black & white cult reasoning to control jw's minds with this information from the article titled, " let nothing distance you from jehovah ".
first off in paragraph 5 the wt tries to make people feel guilty looking for work and insists that if you get any job that takes you away from family- it will distance you from jehovah !
I once had a Circuit Overseer that told the BOE that a brother who works shift work should not hold privileges in the congregation. I found it disturbing since many of our elders and ministerial servants worked shift work, but as a result of that, made all the meetings and were able to go our in field service more than those who worked banker's hours.
