Who are these elders???

having only started to study with a jw she has yet to inform me of these elders, the book she gave me says a little, but after reading this board i see there is more i have yet to learn.

who are these elders?

i'm picturing a bunch of old men in velvet purple robes sitting around a circular table.

Princess, your dad was probably one of the true, genuine article. However, elders like him have a hard time staying with the fold because of all the bullshit they have to put up, so they step down or leave. Not that anyone can blame him.

Sometimes I wonder what the organization would be like if the good elders would have stuck around and tried to reform things. Unfortunately, they would have been a small minority to the self-righteous, egotistical, power-hungry, mother-!@#$%^& (sorry) hypocritical group that now runs the show in most congregations. As you can see, I don't have much respect for elders, haven't met too many that were decent.

My point is this...the good ones don't last very long.

the first survey i asked how you were brought into the non-truth.

my next survey is along the same line, however what i would like to find out is on the average how many hours you spent in the field service and were you ever able to bring anyone into the non-truth via field service or via incidental witnessing.. and how long you were associated with the borg?.

My sentiments exactly!

I probably averaged 4 hours per month if you take in account the 2 times I auxillary pioneered.

At all of the assemblies they always used the phrase, "only go in field service enough to hate it" and that aptly applied to me. So in an effort to like service, I tried to pioneer one month...hated it!

I avoided service at all costs. However, I never minded informal witnessing, when it was a natural exchange of conversation. I felt I accomplished more in that situation. In fact, when I went back to work after my children were all in school, I found that my hours on my time slip increased from all of the informal witnessing. I often thought to myself, why doesn't the society encourage more sisters to hit the work force, there sure as hell isn't anyone at home anymore during the day. We use to drive around 3 hours going from apartment complex to trailer park, knocking on 1 door and leaving so that we wouldn't get thrown out. All that gas wasted since most of the people were not home anyway. I would come home after 3 hours of service, not speaking to one person.

Just think, if all of the sisters that are now pioneering were to actually go get a job, they would not only increase the number of hours that they actually "witnessed" but look at all the extra money they could donate to the "world-wide work." Hmmm!

does anyone know what andrea yates religion is?.

she is the woman who drown her 5 children just recently.. on good morning america today the qestion was asked if it was thought that her restrictive religion .

and her homeschooling added to the stress and depression she was in.

I heard on the news that she was "Church of Christ". I don't know that I would consider them a cult, but they do have ways that remind me of JW's, not doctrinally, but if you leave the religion, you are definitely looked down upon. My husband has tons of relatives that are Church of Christ and also have a neighbor that is a deacon. He keeps coming over to try and convert me. I told him that joining CofC would be no better than being a JW. I'm through with organized religion.

I can only recall 3 off the top of my head, #1 is still active and being used by the brothers (he is currently listed on our local database of sex offenders) #2 is inactive, still trying to molest children whenever and wherever possible, #3 is disfellowshipped and is also listed on the sex offenders list.

I'm sure that I have encountered others in the past, just can't bring them to mind right now.

I have JW's staying with me...help!

i have had my jw cousin and his wife and three children staying at my house since sunday.

i thought i'd just share a few experiences with you all.. my husband and i are marveling at the numerous compromises they have made since coming here to washington state from wisconsin.

they are here to visit his disfellowshipped mother who has cancer.

If you want to get rid of them in a hurry, start sharing why you left the borg with them, that'll get them runnin back home in a heartbeat.

You've been through so much and I'm glad you found us. You mentioned that your husband got custody or your children. Did you get them back after you left the borg? Just curious.

Also, concerning depression-I think just being a witness is too much for some people to handle and I have seen sooooo many witnesses affected by depression. There is the constant guilt trip imposed upon those who do not measure up spiritually. I know there are some congregations headed up by some really nice elders that do not try to impose guilt on the regular publishers, but the majority of congregations that I have been in has been just the opposite.

I think it is especially hard on the men in the congregation that are not MS's or elders. My husband use to leave every meeting with a feeling of being a spiritual loser because he figured that no matter how hard he tried, he would NEVER measure up.

It is also hard on the sisters with unbelieving mates because they get put in the same boat as the men, because they are now the spiritual head.

I would love to see just one member of the GB go work a full time job, then come home and get dinner on the table, bathe the kids, finds the socks, shoes, ties, etc. and not only get to the meeting but be prepared. They wouldn't last a week even in their younger days. The only way it works is if you run your household like a gestapo and then your kids will rebel against the borg on their own.

No thanks! I've had enough guilt put on me to last a lifetime.

it seems like to me the majority of people who are in the truth, are were in the truth was a result of either a family member are a friend witnessing to them and not many seem to have been found in the door to door work.. from my years of associating with the borg i cannot recall many coming in the truth from the door to door work.. how were you sucked in?

for me it was my aunt who has now even though i am not disfellowshipped decided to write me out of her will to the tune of about $150,000.00 (maybe i should hang around a couple more years)dont think i will.. please respond .

None, nada, zero...not even my kids, none got baptized although my 15 year old says he wants to, sometimes, after he has been with his witness cousins or friends. When he spends his time with neighborhood kids, he doesn't even bring it up. He occasionally says that we should get back to meetings, of which I reply, "I know" and that is usually the end of the matter. I would tell him how I really feel but he has a big mouth and would rat on me.

P.S. I always had tremendous guilt that I had never gotten my "letters of recommendation" by bringing someone in, but no more!

i chose this title not just because of the shear numbers of molesters that potentially exist within the organizations and congregations of jehovahs witnesses, but the insidious impact they continue to have, when you least expect or realize what is happening.

this is about a situation that directly affected my own family.

I was always under the impression that a person's "sealed file" was never destroyed. Is that a rule by the society that the person's file be destroyed after 5 years?
